  1. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) Fernando Hernandez has come a long way for a 49th round draft pick. Our AAA bullpen looks pretty good with Onelli Perez, Fernando Hernandez, Dewon Day, Adam Russell, Carlos Vasquez, and a couple of others. Just making sure you're aware of Russell's 4.79 ERA in 194 innings in AA, which is a pitcher's park, to go along with some very mediocre peripherals. He may have dynamite stuff, and he may be a breakout candiate next year at AAA as a reliever full-time, but I'm not about to put the word good anywhere near him yet, even if it's talking about the pen as a whole. That would insinuate that he's a good prospect, when merely I think all you can do is classify him as a sleeper.

    Pet peeves....

    People who talk in a library People who tear posters off your door, even if it was just a piece of paper, a newspaper cutout, and some words written with Sharpie. People who think they're cool and they're not
  3. QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) I wouldnt give too much more than Anderson for Hall, maybe a c prospect or so, since our system is so bare and we need to add to it not trade away the few pieces we have K, have fun not getting Bill Hall
  4. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:41 PM) We couldn't get Bill Hall for Jon Garland? I don't know what you've been smoking, or what Jon Garland did to you to make his trade value so low... 1 year left on his deal
  5. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) http://www.break.com/index/frisking-cop-gets-too-frisky.html I wanna be a cop someday!
  6. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) I think that Garland might be able to approach Kevin Brown's numbers before his career is over. Albeit, less Ks. He's got a hell of a ways to go then. Garland's career ERA and ERA+ of 4.41 and 106 pale in comparison to Brown's 3.28 and 127.
  7. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) Rather than trade away primo talent in Crede for a guy that lost his starting CF job I would rathe go internally, or use our younger OF and AAA pitchers in a trade for a guy like Crisp You should probably give Crede a paper towel or two for how much you are slobbering on him.
  8. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) We wouldn't get Melky straight up for Crede who is just coming off of back surgery. I think a more likely candidate would be Matt DeSalvo. DeSalvo is a polished product at 27 years old- great college pedigree and had a 2.70 ERA in AAA last year. And a 1.31 WHIP to go along with a K/BB of less than 2. Matt DeSalvo is worse than Gavin Floyd.
  9. I'd just sign Barry Bonds and make 13 clones of him.

    QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) I have friends in Cincinnati that claim Dunn to be a huge rally killer. Since he's been the bigs he's struck out 170 times a year to the tune of a career .248 BA. He's as exciting as it gets at times, but he's the type of guy you'd rather watch play on someone else's team IMO. Rally killer?

    QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:08 PM) What a slam on Crawford. Uncalled for, sir. That is no slam at all; I actually find Roberts to be more valuable, being a 2Bman and all. You underrate Roberts and overrate Crawford. Just compare them, please.

    QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) Thank you for your elaboration. I agree with the first part, but totally disagree with the second part. Just as a complete hypothetical, would you give up Josh Fields for Brian Roberts?

    QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) Why? The White Sox lose their best young hitter, and the Rays don't need any more bats. You don't trade Fields unless you get a superstar type player (or close to superstar); Carl Crawford is not a superstar.

    QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:45 AM) I think the headliner would be Josh Fields in a deal like this. I recall Ozzie saying near the end of the year that if they could move Fields to bring back a big time player he'd be in favor of it. If anyone needs me to get a link- I will. I'll just go ahead and believe you'll take my word for it for now. That type of package makes little sense for both teams.
  15. QUOTE(Shadows @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 01:06 AM) A shoulder injury? I highly doubt it unless he tried to do a power slide and tripped and landed on his shoulder.. Anything is possible, sir.
  16. BILLLLLS YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO on another note, here's to hoping Chad Johnson is OK...I love the guy as a player and personality, and anything serious would be terrible. It appears he's OK, atleast for now.
  17. QUOTE(Hawkfan @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 11:48 AM) I'm not sure the angels trade was spec or not but every time i heard about it konerko Along with garland was the deal. Which to me makes more sense as far as business goes. I would be against the trade completely though. garland 4 life No, you have it wrong, it is timo4life
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 11:30 AM) Well that was when he was brought up for the second time. I guess since Furcal was not a rookie that was brought up twice thats why its not a good comparison. Coco Crisp is no better than Jerry numbers-wise and bringing the salary into the mix and its very lopsided towards Jerry. Use salary if you have to, but making a statement like that is flat out lying. Seriously, since when is .712 = .636, and not 76 points higher? Depending on the pricetag, I'd much prefer Crisp to Owens.
  19. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) I think that If I were KW i'd look at bringing in some promising young talent that is being platooned from another team that has a logjam at CF or SS because both players are of similar talent, are ML ready and the team can't just give them away. And if they are both of similar talent, take the one that the other team doesn't want, because you'd have to give up less. Who knows, you might just end up with the better player. You could also look for a Jim Thome-Ryan Howard type situation in the NL, but go for the young guy this time instead. As a matter of fact, I don't know why GMs don't use this strategy more often. On another topic, If Mark Buehrle isn't worth Clay Buchholz and Michael Bowden then in no way, shape or form is Coco Crisp worth Chris Carter. Epstein is on some good s*** if he came up with that one. If every other team's top prospects are untouchable then ours should be too. Carter's a 1B prospect who has pretty poor defense who showed some promise, but nothing substantial or elite at Low-A. Buchholz threw a no-hitter in the majors, and I imagine the Red Sox would have given up Bowden, just not Justin Masterson, the guy the Sox really wanted. Looks like Theo was right in not moving them. And the Red Sox were after Dye, not Buehrle; they would have had Dye for 3 months, including the playoffs, while Crisp will be around another 2 years. That's another huge difference.
  20. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) Can I ask why Buehrle's value is so low? 4.99 ERA in 2006
  21. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) Crisp has more speed, is younger (more of a chance of improvement), and plays very good D in Center. I think it is a pretty big difference. And he's a pretty s***ty hitter; .750 OPS, sure, but if it costs Carter - which it might - then no f'ing way.

  23. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 08:32 AM) I think Senator Mitchell's investigation may have a lot to do with those talks going away. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Tejada was one of the big names leaked. I apologize if I offend anyone with that accusation, however his power decline since the "crackdown" screams cheater. Again, not much fact behind that intuition...just a hunch. If you disagree, no big deal. You are referencing his 2nd and 4th highest slugging percentages of his career, right? .515 in 2005, .498 in 2006...correct? He had a .442 slugging last year, but I'll credit a lot of that to tender wrists. And quite frankly, I don't care who is wearing the PED shadow; Jamey Carroll could be an HGH user for all I know, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least.
  24. Candy corn just gets old quickly. It is delicious, but there's only so much of it I can stand.
  25. QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 09:37 PM) Why not? We have enough pop in the middle of the order, and we add defense and speed, and 3 players who could hopefully all have OBP over .350. Enough pop, eh? Then please explain to me the Sox 5th worst slugging percentage in the league. The Sox don't have enough pop, and adding 3 hitters with jacks*** for power won't do anything to solve that.
