I'll never forget his homer against Cleveland down the stretch, his incredible play throughout the entire 2005 ALCS, and being at Game 1 and watching the amazing plays he made at 3rd (along with hitting a home run) that night. It was too bad he never got a huge contract like he would've inevitably gotten if he stayed healthy, hopefully he had a decent insurance policy...good luck Joe

Viciedo fractures thumb during ST game on HBP
JohnCangelosi replied to ScottyDo's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 10:14 AM) It's spring training His career numbers as a professional hitter are above .300 He's probably only had like - what - 30 ABs... MAYBE??? He can't. I am rooting for Morel but forgive me, this situation sadly reminds me of the BA debacle and I hope it turns out differently but.... Just like BA, he's got the job basically locked in ST (we have no other real everyday options), he's a rookie batting ninth and Ozzie will tell the press he doesn't need to do anything but play good defense and not worry about his bat...sound familiar? Sorry just bringing back bad memories -
Viciedo fractures thumb during ST game on HBP

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 06:56 AM) Wow, we trust an injury over team management in deciding what is best for a player. Agreed, I don't see a silver lining here, other than the fact it's only 2 months max he'll be out and he's not tagged as one of our starters. But this basically ensures we won't see him till June at the earliest, and when Morel is hitting .150 at 3B a lot of people are going to want to see Dayan over there if he can play average defense -
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) Ultimately, I wouldn't mind seeing Beckham-Morel as your 1-2 punch. They won't be your typical speed duo, but I think that is overrated. Gimme OBP at the top over speed. By ultimately I mean in 2012. Call me crazy but I still Becks as a #3 hitter someday. But I look forward to a good year out of him in the 2 hole as long as Ozzie doesn't have him bunting too much...

Nice rip by Teahen!

How bad are these announcers? Does this clown know what a "bang bang" play is? What a joke
-
QUOTE (The Baconator @ Mar 7, 2011 -> 12:28 AM) Seriously, I thought that ship has sailed. Did anyone else catch the Angels' broadcast on MLBN the other day (might have been like the 6th inning) when the announcers were raving about Danks being our 'top prospect'? I was embarrassed to hear that (obviously not top rated within our own system, but to hear that's what an outside crew thought). Danks looks absolutely awful every time I see him at the plate, I sincerely hope he's not our top prospect

Personally I'd hate to see this FORCE us into thinking we need to take him out of the position where he's been the best for us (setup man). I still like Sale as the closer until he proves me wrong. I realize MT has been one of the best setup men now for several years, and could probably be a good closer, but why fix it if it's not broke?

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 03:22 PM) So they will just cut him outright and eat the contract? I don't see that happening, unfortunately. Would be nice if they did it though and didn't worry about the payroll ramifications... Unless you think someone is willing to trade for him in exchange for a bag of balls and us paying 80% of the contract...
-
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) Teahen is definitely not with the Sox on Opening Day...........KW will have to eat most of that contract. He's gone, I think he was gone even before today's developments. So they will just cut him outright and eat the contract? I don't see that happening, unfortunately. Would be nice if they did it though and didn't worry about the payroll ramifications...

Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Prior had pretty much impeccable mechanics. Also think Prior might have used PEDs; his calfs with inhumanely huge. I think you're being extremely generous and conservative when saying "might". He fell off the cliff when they started testing for PED's and his legs which looked like tree trunks before testing all of a sudden turned into toothpicks, ala Ivan Rodriguez -
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) Is it just me or is JFP looking a bit small? Maybe it's just the angle of the photo... Or is he in the "best shape of his life" and headed towards a career year?
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) From Mark Gonzales, first time we've seen #44 throw a baseball since July 6th of last year. Herm keeping a watchful eye. Is it just me or is JFP looking a bit small? Maybe it's just the angle of the photo...

Realistically I think they want Matt Thornton in the 8th Inning and Sale in the 9th and I don't see them deviating from that plan to get Sale's arm stretched out to start. And no way do I see Sale starting even if Peavy isn't ready until mid May. With the off days in April and probable rain outs we can probably get Peavy back May 1 while only marching a scrub from AAA out there 3 or 4 times max, which isn't going to bury us. And regarding Freddy, doesn't he suck in ST typically? I recall just recently Ozzie talking about how people need to understand his style in ST and how he doesn't really get going until the regular season. If he gets bombed in ST I find it hard to believe the Yanks will just trust he'll be the same guy as last year and take their chances, but then again, what is 2M to the yanks....

Alexei Ramirez signs 4 year extension
JohnCangelosi replied to TheChrisSamsa's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Any concerns about him having any additional pressure now that he's inked a nice deal? We all know about his early season struggles, and I just hope that when it happens again this year (which it most likely will, unfortunately) that he doesn't fold under additional heat because of the new deal... -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 13, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) The "specialness" of it was entirely brought on by himself. It was kind of like an outfielder getting a bad jump on a ball only to make up for it with a diving catch. It really should have been a routine play but he made it into something that looked better than it really was because he stumbled over himself. Agreed.

Bobby had more horrible performances last year than all previous years combined in my opinion. From late 2005-2009 he was as good of a closer the White Sox have ever seen in the last 30 yrs and it will not be as easy for us in the 9th this year, unfortunately, unless Sale can step up. If Bobby hits the middle of the plate as much as he did in 2010 for the BoSox, the fans will crucify him...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) Why not kick the tires on a couple low risk high reward guys like Bonderman/Escobar/Duchscherer/Fuentes and see what happens? I am all for this, 100%. As several people have pointed out and demonstrated, there is no guarantee even when signing a big name FA reliever that you will get a good year out of them- it's always a year to year thing and we should just get a few guys who have some MLB experience with potential and hope to catch lightning in a bottle

Just saw that the Dodgers signed Matt Guerrier for 3/12. A bit pricey for sure...but good to get him off the Twinks, just another hole they'll need to plug

Multiple Sources: Sox actively shopping Quentin
JohnCangelosi replied to SoxFan1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think we gotta give TCQ one more year to see if he can get his head straight, as the 2008 version would make our offense pretty sick. I realize that was a while ago but again I think we should give him one more year, seems he will be 100% starting spring training with no nagging injuries. If we've gone this far why can't we just spend another 3-4 million on two halfway decent relievers who have some experience under their belt? It seems silly to spend all this money on PK, Dunn, etc and then start the season with a few minor leaguers working out of the pen.... -
QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) Do we think it's going to be a 3 or 4 year deal? I love Konerko, but his age (34) really concerns me. His 2009 season was great, but is it more likely that we regret giving him 3 years at $13 million per season or do we think we'll be happy with the production that we got out of this deal? There is NO WAY the White Sox do 4 years. And I highly doubt PK gets $13 per either but who knows....one thing I would bet on is he doesn't get more than 3 yrs, if there is a 4th it will be a team option with a really low buyout.

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
JohnCangelosi replied to pmcochr's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I still cannot believe ANY team would take Liney for his full 5.5 or whatever it is this year. I'm not buying it, we'll have to swallow some salary...I hope I am wrong -
There hasn't been any talk on this forum about Bobby in the offseason. Is this because it's a foregone conclusion that he's gone? My guess is we don't have the $8M it will take and also we probably want to move in a new direction anyways...but what do you think?
