  1. It works fine with a Thornton/Borchard situation but not so much for guys like Upton, Cain, JBJ, Hosmer, Myers or Gallo with multiyear contract obligations.
  2. A lot less than Leury Garcia…prices have doubled the last 2-3 years though due to world supply chains/logistics. The original Bill Veeck Exploding scoreboard in the old stadium was $300,000 back in the day.
  3. There are maybe 6-8 teams that could afford to take on that contract risk. Dodgers replacing Turner/Muncy would be the most obvious one. The Cubs just went through this with Heyward and even Darvish/Kimbrel. Red Sox have Devers. Yanks with LeMahieu/Donaldson. Angels locked in with Rendon. Blue Jays/Chapman? Bregman/Hou? Mets who just signed Escobar are really the only other choice. Two teams that might take on 35-50% of the remaining Moncada money owed.
  4. Back to Brian Anderson vs. Mackowiak, just a slightly different version.
  5. Can’t the same be said about all of Avila’s draft choices? If you are wrong 75% of the time in pretty much any job, you will lose it eventually. The one obvious mistake besides numerous FA calls was Jobe over Mayer. In the end, every time Hahn rolls the dice, he loses, doubles down, then makes things even worse somehow.
  6. Or Drury. Or Gallo. Do something. At least find a competent defender if nothing else. But no, we already have Engel and Leury on the bench. Also, Elijah Tatis Era is officially over before it even got started in lowest A ball. Brilliant.
  7. See Guardians…with very few veteran exceptions and almost 15 rookies utilized this season. Or Mariners. Or Orioles. CLE made just two trades, giving veterans to the Twins (Leon) and Giants LHR Alex Young) but here they still are with roughly 50 games left to go, in first place again.
  8. Mickey777 8 hours ago dmazcomp, I had the Extreme pleasure of sitting next to Dave Dombrowski at a Salem Red Sox game when he headed up the Sox. Couldn’t have been nicer! Talked baseball with him for 9 innings interrupted only by him posing for pictures with other fans. He had completed the Chris Sale trade and he told that the white Sox really wanted Benintendi in that trade but eventually settled for Yoan Moncada. One of the the best baseball nights of my life!!! mlbtraderumors.com Figures Hahn would get that trade wrong twice and NOT get Devers, the one true difference maker.
  9. There you have summarized the last thirty years of Royals’ baseball with the exception of 2013-2016…
  10. You mean extracting value from every possible niche market inefficiency?
  11. Twins had a chance to blow it open against Pepiot, now 4-4. Chasing the Guardians, officially.
  12. Extraordinary (Autistic) Attorney Woo is much better than this (Korean drama). Honestly. Squid Games level of popularity.
  13. To face three lefties in a row? At least two....or PHers?
  14. Like Dunn the final two months of 2011 after the novelty wore off.
  15. Until his huge contract option year comes up for rewewal...for some other organization.
  16. Maybe Marquee Network needs to do a.special on all the players who grew up as Cubs' fans.
  17. This is where you could use a Kelly to try to get the K...or wild pitch.
  18. At least we learned so much about gummi bear relish tonight.
  19. Abreu's defensive fundamentals are falling apart...so is Moncada. Two extra outs.
  20. Of course defensive mistake followed by a double to the gap. Sigh.
