19 Bally RSN's going bankrupt, 14 MLB teams potentially affected
"The most notable development for fans of teams whose local broadcasting deals are carried through Bally is that the company confirmed the RSN “will continue to operate in the ordinary course during the Chapter 11 process.” The corporation added it has approximately $425MM in cash to fund the business during its restructure. Diamond is responsible for local broadcasts for 14 major league teams*. Kosman reported yesterday that Diamond would try to restructure its deals with some of the clubs but was planning to entirely reject its contracts with the Diamondbacks, Padres, Guardians and Reds. (Diamond didn’t provide any specifics on its planned course of action in today’s release.) According to the Post, MLB is planning to step up for teams whose contracts are abandoned and stream them in-market for free while the league searches for alternatives. There’ll surely be more developments over the coming weeks and months, but the long-anticipated bankruptcy for the fledgling RSN corporation has officially been set in motion."

Moncada singles yet again... promptly picked off first. On base something like 12 of last 15 opportunities.

Despaigne is like the Goodyear Blimp... yet still seems like a savvy hitter though. Tons of int'l experience. 2-1 Cuba bottom 5. One out runners 1st and 2nd. Robert HBP... Moncada must have singled or walked. Quite a tear of OBP.

Santos just made a heckuva catch in LF on the warning track...stabbed it at the last second.

Nice opportunity double from Moncada but dont love his habit of watching it too long. 7 for his last 10 after a bad start to WBC.

19 Bally RSN's going bankrupt, 14 MLB teams potentially affected
"As Bloomberg reported, Prudential Financial, Fidelity, Hein Park Capital Management, and Mudrick Capital Management would become owners of the Bally Sports stations as Sinclair’s debt converts to equity. I’ll skip all the fun financial stuff about how a huge portion of that outstanding debt is trading at pennies on the dollar and get to what this could mean for a very pesky Cubs rival. Media rights deals can be terminated or renegotiated as part of the restructuring, so teams relying on revenue from Bally RSNs might be in for a very rude awakening. The Cardinals are one such team and they are heading into the sixth year of a deal initially signed with Fox Sports Midwest that was to pay them north of $1 billion over 15 years. That means the Redbirds are in danger of losing more than $66.6 million in annual revenue just like that. The bright side is that the Cards will probably get their competitive balance picks back if Bally Sports tanks, plus they still have devil (untouted rookie) magic on their side. Oh, and we can’t forget Chip Caray. They don’t need money to fleece teams into paying them to take on All-Stars or to turn create-a-players into impact contributors. Of course, it’s a little easier to operate frugally when you’ve got the safety net of TV money secured for another decade." https://www.cubsinsider.com/2023/01/26/cardinals-could-take-huge-financial-hit-as-sinclairs-bally-sports-rsns-nearing-bankruptcy/

19 Bally RSN's going bankrupt, 14 MLB teams potentially affected
For this season, though, there are still at least 12 teams that are largely unaffected... including the Cubs and Yankees due to limited corporate exposures of their networks to Sinclair/Bally RSN's issues.

Rodon to the Yankees, $162 million
That doesn't change the fact that Sake and Q were the last two pitchers the Sox were able to secure with team friendly contract provisions at some point in their Year 1-5 seasons... buying out multiple arb years and extending out into FA years.

Rodon to the Yankees, $162 million
Here, meaning with the Yankees — a team that expects to be in the postseason every year. “Look, I came to the Yankees because I wanted to win,” he said, “and I’m ecstatic that I’m a Yankee and I’m going to get a chance to pitch in multiple postseason runs for the rest of my career. They’re invested in their players, they invest in their facilities, their staff, everything. Baseball is at the forefront for them. Winning is at the forefront. Like, they care about it."

World Baseball Classic 2023
This number is already locked in for Cuba, Taiwan, and Panama, since they have no more games to play. Cuba allowed 15 runs over 108 outs for a quotient of .1388, Panama had a quotient of .2 (21/105), and Taiwan had a quotient of .2952 (31/105). As it stand now, the Netherlands has a quotient of .15384 and Italy has a quotient of .19753. This makes Cuba a lock to advance to the next round if there is a five way tie, since it has the lowest quotient of any team in the pool. It is mathematically impossible for Italy to beat the Netherlands without Cuba having one of the two best quotients. Cuba basically guaranteed to advance. Italy would be 2-2 and advance over the other 3 teams that are tied 2-2. Things get really dicey for the 2nd place team battle if Netherlands continues to lose to Italy (down 6-1, top of the 7th). BUT! It is not enough for Italy to beat the Netherlands to advance. If they beat the Netherlands by only one run in a nine inning game for instance, say 1 to 0, that will only give them a quotient of .1484 (16/108) to the Netherlands .125 (13/102 in the best case scenario for Italy with a walk-off in the ninth with 2 outs). Assuming a nine inning game, Italy needs to win by at least 4 runs without giving up 6 runs or more to enter the next round. If Italy gives up more than six runs in a nine inning game then at least Panama would surpass them in quotient (.2037 vs. .2), and most likely the Netherlands as well. source: reddit/baseball Japan and Australia most likely for Pool B...Japan with Ohtani leading the way now in the process of going 4-0.

Madison Bumgarner's $85 million contract is the second largest by total value in Diamondbacks history. The only contract that was larger was Zack Greinke's $206.5 million free-agent deal during the 2015 offseason. https://www.mlb.com/news/corbin-carroll-extension-with-d-backs $111 million 8 years

Sox @ Padres, Clevinger vs Snell
Sunk or swim with Moncada. Hahn's simply scared to look like a jackass again when he turns into a superstar for another team after being traded and remotivated....even at those peak salary numbers.
-
Sox @ Padres, Clevinger vs Snell
Slider...should nail it. Obviously generating a lot of his own power there. Hopefully that approach rubs off on Robert and Moncada, too.
-
Sox @ Padres, Clevinger vs Snell
One can only hope. But sad that means we lose yet another franchise star in TA7. We need a lot more than Borchard Viciedo and Beckham results out of our former top prospects.
-
Sox @ Padres, Clevinger vs Snell
He's going to be a fine player. Just not sure about great... which is what they desperately need.

JD Davis somewhere is getting in his RF reps in case they play the service time game with Colas.

Sox @ Padres, Clevinger vs Snell
That particular contract will be a trivia question considered almost unsanswerable a decade from now. Biggest contract in White Sox team history...? Unless there's an entirely new family owning the team by then.
-
Sox @ Padres, Clevinger vs Snell
Working on his defensive versatility. (Too bad the White Sox can't afford to get someone to work with Jimenez, Burger, Vaughn, Sheets and even TA7 on their defense.) Lookd like opposing teams are going to run the Sox off the field like the Guardians did consistently last year.

Sox @ Padres, Clevinger vs Snell
Haseley for RF lol. Might be better than Nick Williams? And Cespedes Family hasn't been heard from much recently...

Thinking Richardson ends up being better than Stroud... if you look at OSU stable of weapons offensively the last two years.
