Hate it all you want, but the Padres have five starters (Nick Martinez and Seth Lugo replacing Manaea and He Who Shall Not Be Named)...and eight candidates and counting for the 6th spot. Those eight are Pedro Avila, Jay Groome, Brent Honeywell Jr., Reiss Knehr, Adrian Morejon, Ryan Weathers, Wilmer Font and Julio Teheran. At least four former Top Ten prospects and or high draft picks in that group and they're still not satisfied and will continue to add/scour the market. On the other hand, nobody in baseball can really take the White Sox all that seriously with almost no depth after Caleb Martin...who most knowledgeable fans were hoping wouldn't be in the rotation in the first place. We also are quite well aware of how shaky Lynn and Kopech are health-wise, too. Finally, what are the odds of another Rodon 2021 or Cueto in 2022 under $5 million? Of near perfect health? They're not going to have a legit pitching staff the next two years, for one...assuming Giolito is gone and no Clevinger and absolutely perfect health from the other three. We sort of have a closer in Graveman/Reynaldo, but that Hendriks situation is problematic from a salary/payroll standpoint. The Tyreek Hill move to Miami is a perfect example of how spreading out the talent with young/athletic players across multiple positions is a better method of retooling than investing 80-85% of your payroll in just a handful of stars. Former Royals' closer Escobar was signed 3-4 years too late...or pretty much a strong majority of ex Royals/Buddy Bell Specials, like Mark Teahen. Joakim Soria was "okay" but best days also behind him, of course.

The Royals' stadium is nicer aesthetically inside the park with the fountains...basically the same exact stadiums, especially the race or slant of upper deck seats. Crazy have been to both old Texas/Arlington stadiums but not the newest...yet another sign of getting old.

Benintendi has also averaged only 1 fWAR the prior three seasons (to last year). With Hahn's track record, that seems more likely than than 2.8 of 2022. If we extrapolated 2020 out, closer to -1.5 and it would have been just 2 total fWAR over the course of three seasons for Benintendi. (See Pollock's 2021 3 fWAR, coming out of a similar offense to 2022 NYY.)
