  1. Now the White Sox have BOTH guys, lol...day late, dollar short. High school talent is a REAL crapshoot. Even at the big league level, it's taking most their first 2-3 years to get their feet under them....the real value is going to be found in FA contracts for those guys maturing in their late 20's.
  2. https://www.mlb.com/news/fernando-tatis-juan-soto-ronald-acuna-worth-the-hype?partnerId=zh-20210315-156906-MLB&qid=1026&bt_ee=m8CKIwIQ9rbo7hmOEiFBS8QNb07xBgPHuw7%2FUP5hDAu37feDIRwb70ApeZemMgi5&bt_ts=1615808486967 Have we ever seen a trio like this before? It's impossible to overhype the Tatis/Acuña/Soto triumvirate
  3. Not going to feel too bad if he’s legitimately worth $100-125 million, but this seems like a terrible investment approach for those with net worth in the single millions or below.
  4. Rodon having the advantage over Lopez isn't coming as much of a shocker to anyone. It's whether Carlos can actually stay on the mound and give you at least 5-6 innings for an extended stretch of games that is in extreme doubt.
  5. They don't already? Well, Eaton will be "okay" at least, but he's got to stay on the field for 140-145 games at least.
  6. Only in the outfield (or corn field beyond)...
  7. Or moving Jimenez to DH, which doesn't sound like it's going to happen anytime soon, unless he (knock on wood) gets hurt yet again playing defense. Seems a pretty foregone conclusion that Abreu is definitely going to enter/hit his decline these next two years. The possibility of Colas as reliever seems to be less of a pressing need with our current stable of left-handers, but who knows how long Crochet can last and whether simply being able to throw 94-96 and a looping slider is enough to succeed. All things considered, though, at that price range, just ONE of Cespedes or Colas making it would be a HUGE win for the Sox. Expecting both to succeed just isn't realistic.
  8. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/rangers-will-allow-fans-at-100-percent-capacity-on-opening-day-192526983.html Wonder if you're going to have the possibility of teams refusing to play in places like Dallas (especially indoors), Houston, The Trop, etc.? What's the acceptable rate of community spread, positive cases, hospitalizations, etc., to where MLB would have to make a decision to go against the governors/owners for the sake of continuity of season and not having a potential repeat of all those situations like the Braves, Cardinals and especially the Marlins experienced in 2020? Can players opt-out for individual games/series? Well, that would seem to go against the CBA, right? Uncharted waters here.
  9. I can just picture exponentially-increasing demand for "self-help/holistic healing" YouTube seminars on the various pluses and minuses of Vaughn, Leury Garcia, Mercedes and Collins in the DH spot. The off-season was more fun because we could simply start a thread about 75-100 different FA's because there was no movement for so long, leading to endless (most useless) hours of speculation, the famous Twitter "insiders" and poor Hector hyping the Dominican players and taking hits from all sides.
  10. Epstein is great at building things. Pretty terrible at sustaining them, although Boston he did a better job (bigger budget to absorb misses in FA), and those 4 World Series teams stretched out across quite an extended time period (one officially goes to Cherington, but largely put in place by Theo). With the Cubs, it's obvious that it was a combination of pitching (lack thereof in terms of draft/development/talent evaluation), terrible FA moves and then just bad health or performance declines (guys like Arrieta and Kris Bryant, Arrieta reminiscent in many ways of the run Jose Contreras had in 2005-06). Then you have that "next generation" of prospects like Almora, Soler, Schwarber, Bote, Happ, etc., with mixed results at best, and little return on investment. Kimbrel was a killer, added on to Heyward, Darvish (first couple of years), Chatwood, etc. In a way, the Royals only had those TWO playoff appearances, but they were within a Madison Bumgarner post-season performance of all-time of winning two consecutive as one of the smallest market teams in MLB. That, to me, was even more impressive...despite them not being able to follow it up in 2016 and 2017. They also had bad luck with a combination of injuries (Moustakas/Cain), non-performance (Gordon) and Yordano Ventura's untimely death.
  11. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/gina-carano-the-mandalorian-firing-disney-ceo-weighs-in-004603106.html Waiting for news of Rabbit's involvement with this project...
  12. There, are you happy now? I can just see it on some posters' tombstones, "most reputation points in SoxTalk history for a non-mod." Guess that would go to Fathom, Dick Allen or our resident Nashvillean (is that the right word for denizens of that city?)
  13. Yeah, that's even MORE annoying looking through posts and attempting to figure out what's going on. Plus, you have the "train wreck" factor of human curiosity that usually wins out. I can't imagine ever blocking a poster, simply because it's easier to ignore whatever someone writes than to go out of your way to NOT see anything, which actually makes their "absence" more noticeable than if you just "read around them."
  14. Check out Theory of Knowledge (TOK) from the IB curriculum, haha. Go to a local Model United Nations or debate tournament. Or try to avoid any mention of Jose Abreu...that's 50% of it.
  15. From LOTS of previous past experience, the solution to these situations is usually to take a step back and get your priorities straight. I went through five years of criticizing everything Sox/Hahn/JR, it gets quite tiring, and it doesn't change the way the organization operates by one iota, so what's the point? I'll probably go to my grave arguing we would have won a World Series if we had kept Tatis (if we don't get another title in the next 5-6 years), but, in the end, repeating something over and over again doesn't make a point more valid or powerful, it does exactly the opposite. That's where the Tony Robbins-esque overly optimistic or rose-colored glasses posts were rubbing some the wrong way. At any rate, the only way to really learn anything new in life is to listen and observe, so posting less and arguing less will lead to a much longer and more enjoyable life.
  16. See KW leaving the White Sox after 2012...avoided the 2013 Ventura Year 2 debacle. Although that 4-11 those last two weeks in 2012 should have been taken as an omen of things to come.
  17. Vaughn wasn’t seeing that very much in Schaumburg... So we’re falling to 1-5-3? I know, I know...it doesn’t mean anything, yet.
  18. It sounds like he cribbed that directly from a certain politician’s speeches....too funny the con already is falling flat.
  19. Are we talking the CDC botched tests that were measuring something that wasn’t even necessary or all the public/private lab and drug companies?
  20. Imagines how many cases without absentee voting...
  21. Well, at least Burdi looked better and Robert drew a walk.
  22. The Cardinals Bottom 5 in MLB with Anheuser Busch ties? Interesting four of the last six California-based teams. SF, everything is too/so expensive, plus the whole late to arrive, early to leave thing going on.
  23. https://www.mlb.com/news/cj-abrams-showing-padres-he-deserves-top-prospect-status?partnerId=zh-20210305-156906-MLB&qid=1026&bt_ee=tr9SnwjNRENqfe%2FL8uyYzJ%2FXY0aF1abJpWwlL%2FnTbQSriRYrFkrlKt9v5zCnd48j&bt_ts=1614947885224
  24. That said, unless they substantially suppress the characteristics of the game ball, Vaughn's going to be to good for 25-35, touching 40 homers per season on a pretty consistent basis...regardless of what happens in March/Arizona. Pete Alonso with slightly less homers but a better average and OBP/walk rate seems pretty likely, although obviously not guaranteed, and obviously Alonso had his share of struggles statistically (analytics-wise, he was better in some ways, without the results to show it.)
  25. And he was actually much worse than everyone was expecting, like Jo Adell...Casey Mize, etc.
