  1. "The Padres could use some thump in the middle of their lineup. Considering they’re in good shape up the middle, they can focus on finding a corner-outfield/DH type exclusively for his bat. Kyle Schwarber and Jorge Soler fit the bill. And who knows? If the Padres can clear some salary elsewhere, they might even splurge on a player of Nick Castellanos’ ilk." mlb.com This makes (financial) sense if they can move Myers, especially. They've also got a top OF prospect in Robert Hassell. Assuming Tatis is back at SS, that leaves Grisham, Myers and Profar (more of a 4th outfielder, utility guy), to name a few. They're also looking at Nelson Cruz as their full-time DH.
  2. With Turner and Lux, they don't HAVE to do anything right now, not to mention Taylor and Muncy.
  3. You have to also look at it in terms of their drafting philosophy of going after high upside relief arms. We had a pretty average farm system in 2012 but almost made the playoffs behind Quintana and 12 other rookies pitchers, mostly in bullpen roles. The two best White Sox internally-produced relievers after Bummer shouldn't even be used in those roles, arguably.
  4. Well, you'd think with one of the, what, five most iconic players in the city of Chicago over the last decade that there would be SOME noise?
  5. Dream on. Has there even once been any insider naming the Sox as an interested party?
  6. I've seen better feeding frenzies in the Sharknado Trilogy.
  7. Ask any Dodgers fan how much they trusted Jansen the last 2-3 seasons.
  8. The lemmings have been right for four decades straight with the exception of 2005...which of course has proven nearly impossible to replicate. You don't go into a full rebuild then deliver the equivalent of an 80's Johnny Bench Krylon paint commercial to inspire their season ticket purchases. The lemmings were there shouting from the rooftops and rafters that acquiring James Shields was never going to work out...even if they had given up nothing in that trade besides taking on salary.
  9. If he wasn't related to Yoenis, he'd be just another Latin "tool box" guy likw Adolfo with major questions about his ability to put it all together.
  10. It's more about TLR and how he utilizes his roster...Leury and Harrison will be almost impossible to get out of the everyday lineup.
  11. A bit reminiscent of how Thornton would go through tough stretches even though the stuff was still there until his last couple of seasons. Bummer could be downright nasty, but had that uncanny knack of giving up weak contact that ended up with the worst possible results somehow.
  12. Hendriks really needs to go back to that multiple pitch mix to keep opponents honest. Those off speed pitches only make it that much harder to dial up the fastball. Hopefully some better pitch calling after one full season of familiarity with his arsenal will make acdiffetence. He's a horse, wants the ball practically every day and is clearly one of the emotional leaders of the team.
  13. I don't quite get seemingly giving up on Lopez again (unless part of a trade package)...maybe things can change again perspective-wise with Kimbrel off the roster and one huge acquisition to get the fanbase charged up on the position player side. Right now, it feels like we are at best even with last year losing Rodon and Madrigal. Yes, best of the Central, but considering they have perhaps their highest payroll ever...all seems like a bit if a let down so far.
  14. The moves we're making recently feel like classic 2011-2016 White Sox or even the worst of KW instincts with veterans 2-3 years past their sell-by dates.
  15. Sure, the Royals did it...but they essentially had three closers that really locked down the last three innings. The other difference was Gore and Dyson could still bases at will to manufacture runs late.
  16. Why would they want Kimbrel with Hader in house?
  17. You feel that confident they will get Conforto, Suzuki or Ketel Marte? That Kimbrel won't be on the Opening Day roster now?
  18. Because the Astros, M's, Angels and Rangers are all better positioned and the stadium situation shows no sign of a resolution.
  19. Right, thanks. Think that was one of those Buddy Bell specials.
  20. On the plus side, he should be better than Kelvin Herrera... Tying to remember another former Royals' Latin starter (somewhere around 2014-2016) we took a flier on coming back from injury and was pretty much hot garbage. He threw hard but straight...unfortunately the ball went back in the other direction at an even higher rate of velocity. Didn't last long, maybe 5-6 starts.
  21. Let's count how many times we hear long Covid and reggaeton videos this year. Did he make another? Win a Latin Grammy? I like his talent...but we will see how much the Sox really value him when the rubber hits the road and he starts to lose his "value added" status. Personally, would take Byron Buxton over him if they both were playing on that lower-risk new deal with the Twins.
  22. Don't forget they're also bringing former first rounder Brandon Finnegan into camp. Heck, we just signed a former #10 in the first round, OF Cornelius Randolph.
  23. At least it was the Twins and not Tigers/Royals/Indians getting Sonny Gray...
  24. Moncada's trade value is really going to hit a wall unless he looks like his 2019 version approaching a $25 million salary.
  25. Sometimes I wish we had the same go for broke mentality as the Padres in the face of the Dodgers’ onslaught. Sure, it backfired last year, but eventually the LA division dominance will come to an abrupt halt, especially carrying Bauer on the active roster. Our modus operandi is more about finishing out in front of the AL Central rather than really going for the jugular. We have a number of things that could go wrong for a supposed #2 ranked team in all of MLB.
