For some reason, thought LaMarre was 26/27ish. Oh, well. On other hand, nobody (in the world) thought Jose Martinez would be a "stud" 1B if you go back a decade ago when he was experiencing all kinds of injury problems in the Sox minor league system. -

Speaking of LaMarre...could he pass Delmonico, Avi and Palka simply with "plus defense" and a 700-725ish OPS? Probably not, simply due to the fact you shouldn't have Engel and LaMarre in the same OF. -

Pretty crazy LaMarre now has a higher OPS than Moncada, but SSS. Big victory with Lopez having an excellent outing against a playoff team in a hostile environment. Jose Rondon as starting 3B in 2019? Why not, if they miss on Machado and don't give Donaldson a "make good" short-term recovery deal. -
A victory for the anti-Establishment... Andrew Gillum pulled off an upset victory Tuesday night in Florida’s Democratic primary in a bid to become the state’s first African-American governor. Gillum, the progressive mayor of Tallahassee who had been endorsed in the race by Sen. Bernie Sanders, narrowly defeated former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, the Associated Press reported. Polls showed him surging late in the race, and his victory shocked most political observers in Florida who assumed it was Graham’s to lose. In part, that was because Graham is the daughter of Bob Graham, a former Florida governor and U.S. senator. Gillum quickly set his sights on what should prove to be a difficult general election battle. “Those of us who voted for me, those who did not vote at all, those who couldn’t vote for me because they may be Republicans…” Gillum said at a victory party. “But you want to know something? I want to be their governor, too.” But for moment, progressive politicians like Sanders paused to celebrate Gillum’s accomplishment.

8/28 GT - Big Game James vs. Lance Lynn

What's even more amazing is that he was REALLY good for his first 6-7 starts, too...and still has an ERA lower than Giolito, who has managed to go all Danny Wright/James Baldwin in terms of W-L record. -

Delmonico's not an outfielder, Palka's not an outfielder, Davidson's not a 3B...etc. Engel's a CFer but can't hit even at the standard set by 2006 Brian Anderson. -

That's ONE way not to win too many meaningless late season games and end up with a pick in the #6-8 range... -
If Hansen goes south, pretty much all of our "high/sky's the limit upside" 2nd round draft guys like Beck, Adams and now Hansen will have turned out to be much ado about nothing.

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hawkins and Mitchell looked good their first seasons too...what did it matter, in the end? Madrigal has had three pretty significant injuries in the span of one year. Let’s see how he does when he’s 100%. Besides the fact that baseball is tilting so far in one direction, the skill set that Madrigal has right now is eventually going to come back into vogue...like the players on the Royals, or, further back, the Piranha Twins of 2002-2006. On defense and speed alone, he will be worth at least 1.5 fWAR without even taking into consideration his offensive game. He’s a hard worker, he will get things figured out quickly enough. -

https://sports.yahoo.com/10-degrees-baseballs-attendance-woes-mlb-owners-rightfully-spooked-031815621.html Seems like there are 1070 “Greg775bots” in the comments section on this one... "They're going to have nerds in the dugout. And I've said it: If [Yankees general manager Brian] Cashman had any balls, he'd have done that a long time ago. Or he'd like to now. Put a nerd in uniform. Because anybody can manage today. There's 100 pitches, and then you start parading your 10 relievers in."

I guess the Rockies still have Desmond for 1B as well? One would think Murphy would be a better option than him or McMahon, though. Maybe as a "progressive state," they (ownership group) were hesitant because of his "anti-gay" views? Cole Hamels, 5 starts, 4-0, 0.79 ERA. Would "only" cost $14 million next year since the Rangers are already kicking in $6 million for the buyout. (Oops, according to the Jeff Passan article on the state of the game, the Cubs would actually be on the hook for all $20 million, would only collect the $6 million for buying out the option, which is what 98% of MLB assumed was going to end up happening when he was acquired. Might end up being the 1984 Rick Sutcliffe move all over again.)

http://www.newser.com/story/263795/campaign-to-help-philly-homeless-man-gets-nasty.html GoFundMe kept $30,000 of the money. No trust was ever set up. McClure and D’Amico said the rest is in a savings account. They declined to produce any financial statements for the newspaper. They sold the camper for $10,000 and kicked him off their property where Bobbitt had parked it while living in it. He’s homeless again. “Giving him all that money, it’s never going to happen. I’ll burn it in front of him,” said D’Amico, Bobbitt is currently living under a bridge and panhandling. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2018/08/25/they-raised-homeless-man-who-said-they-spent-it-vacations-casinos-bmw/?utm_term=.e88b9f9eaf81

Trump moves the stock market nearly everyday...surely lots of insiders are in a position to strike pre-emptively. unfortunately, most are able to get away with it better than the Colllins family.

Which would be fine if the poor actually stayed in one house/apartment for a lifetime...or consistently received forwarded mail. I remember in the Searching for Sugarman documentary (about the singer Rodriguez), one of the daughters said they moved 28 times while they were growing up.

He’s dealt with a strained hamstring still lingering from the end of the college season and a fractured hand that put him out the earlier part of the year for OSU.
-
Or the union would come down hard if they could assert it was resulting in more pitching injuries...that would be another hurdle if you tried to force top pitchers with agents like Boras into such a system. What was it the Astros did with their piggybacking system in the minors that’s been one of many factors blamed in Appel falling apart?
