White Sox to hire Derek Shomon as hitting coach, Zach Bove as pitching coach per James Fegan
"Grady Sizemore, who served as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2025 and filled in as interim manager in 2024, will be offered a role within the organization for 2026, according to the club." The search to find replacements for Katz, Thames, Bourgeois and Butera will “begin immediately.” 9/30 WGN News Looks like he saw a better opportunity in Minnesota, or just didn't mesh well with Venable, or both. Maybe as former manager he constituted a threat? Plus Minnesota has a Top 5 CF prospect in Walker Jenkins to tutor.

Daryl Boston also seems like he will never get another MLB job again... https://twinsdaily.com/forums/topic/72558-miami-marlins-hire-coach-from-minnesota-twins-organization/ Looks like a number of recent Twins' coaches going to the Marlins...Sox getting their share of ex-Twins as well. https://www.startribune.com/minnesota-twins-derek-shelton-grady-sizemore-mlb-gm-meetings-las-vegas/601517051

White Sox 1/8 teams not to receive revenue sharing nor pay CBT
Cardinals are planning to "salary dump" Nolan Arenado on the market...looks like he has played his last game for StL. Also looking to dump Sonny Gray deal as well. To Philly to replace Bohm...theoretically. https://www.si.com/mlb/cardinals/onsi/st-louis-cardinals-news/cardinals-predicted-to-trade-nolan-arenado-to-national-league-rival-jackson3 Meanwhile, two Central managers win MoY in consecutive years. White Sox 1/8 teams not to receive revenue sharing nor pay CBT
He was a 959 ops hitter before all the issues. He has since fallen off about 100 points over the last 2-3 years. Now he's more like an 800-825 guy with the GG defense carrying his fWAR values. It all depends on how badly SD waunts to cut $$$ commitments. They're still stuck with Bogaerts, an injured Darvish, Musgrove, Machado, Cronenworth...would make no sense to not also trade Machado and go into a full rebuilding phase with prospects acquired for Tatis/Machado. Except back end of Machado deal is also about as ugly as the Bogaerts contract. But then what do you do with Jackson Merrill in Y3? 9year contract extension with the Padres $135 million guaranteed Average annual salary of $15 million "If Tatis appears unlikely to return to his pre-suspension production levels, would the Padres at least explore his trade market? Like Machado and Bogaerts, Tatis can veto any deal, and it would be difficult to recoup fair value for a player of his caliber. In other words, it seems unlikely." Unlikely, but surely more likely than the chances they trade Bogaerts or Machado. Bogaerts is past his prime and would have almost no trade value. Machado would have some value, but he is too expensive to get back anything close to what he's worth." https://friarsonbase.com/mlb-analyst-identifies-fernando-tatis-jr-as-the-pivot-in-a-padres-lineup-reset-01k7527ypxv1

Are we the favorites
If this was the easy solution...Angels would have done the equivalent when they had prime Ohtani and Trout together. Not to mention you'd have to convince the other two players/agents that ALL THREE guys would be coming onboard together...AND pay a 10-15% premium over the big market teams as well for joining a fifth place team outside of the East and West Coast, so impacting outside income opportunities as well. Current trust level with JR??? about zero

Even some Phillies' fans are wary about trading for Tatis, Jr., moreso on the payroll side. "The Phillies are operating at 10's of millions above their budget. Middleton doesn't mind losing money in an era where they win a WS, but he's not going to be willing to lose $100m per season. Keep in mind, every dollar the Phillies spend this year in free agency or trades is likely to be taxed at 110%. Ie, if they bring in Tatis......that's around $60m per season with the CBT tax. The Phillies have the 4th highest payroll in baseball. They are not cheap at all.....there's just a limit." https://sports.yahoo.com/article/phillies-predicted-blockbuster-trade-340-181305641.html Ofc this one seems to be more about getting rid of Castellanos and has zero chance of actually happening.

Are we the favorites
Detroit still.. unless they trade away Skubal for lower level guys and Max Clark/McGonigle both fail. The White Sox attempted to do this with Cabrera Robertson and LaRoche...to jump start things. But those were all Tier B guys. Tucker isn't even a sure thing to stay healthy as he ages out. Most Cubs' fans aren't even that interested unless the price came down to $325-350 million.

Kyle Schwarber back to Phillies 5 years/150 mil
There was a time and a place around 2017-18 where the sentence "White Sox scouts" wouldn't have been met with nearly universal mockery and derision across the industry. That was also before 75% of them were laid off or forced to take early retirement.

Foulke is the only one who had a decent career. Howry flamed out relatively early and Caruso became a role model and future inspiration for Getz's career.

MLBTR Offseason Outlook on White Sox
Flexen, Carlos Carrasco...splurge on Jose Quintana OR Cody Ponce. LoL. "RHP Cody Ponce: Outside of the three NPB stars, no player coming from overseas is gaining steam quite like Ponce. Born in California, he played for the Pirates in 2020-21 and could now be poised for an MLB return as a much improved pitcher. Ponce spent three seasons in Japan where he had decent-not-great results before dominating the KBO last season with a 1.89 ERA and striking out 252 batters. Multiple scouts described Ponce’s stuff as “electric — when he’s right." theathletic.com

Kyle Schwarber back to Phillies 5 years/150 mil
He has allowed the team valuation to fall from #8/9 after 2005 all the way down to 17th place. Not going to the poorhouse, but embarrassing for a market like Chicago starving for winning teams.

Sox fire Katz and Thames
"Each unit (four teams he coached for/with) was among the top American League teams in home runs. A big emphasis was the ability to generate power and drive in more runs. In 2025, the White Sox finished the second half of the season by scoring 4.85 runs per game. The Royals have notable power hitters in their lineup. Both Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez reached 30 homers and 100 RBIs. Bobby Witt Jr. just won a second AL Silver Slugger Award at shortstop, and Jac Caglianone is an emerging power threat. Caglianone could thrive under Thames’ tutelage. A lot was made about Caglianone’s ground-ball rate this season, and Thames could possibly unlock his ability to lift the baseball more. Thames has worked with both Luke Voit and Shohei Ohtani..." Read more at: https://www.kansascity.com/sports/mlb/kansas-city-royals/article312862009.html#storylink=cpy

- Sox fire Katz and Thames
"The Royals hired Marcus Thames to serve us a hitting coach under Alec Zumwalt, the senior director of hitting performance and hitting coach. This comes just three days after hiring Connor Dawson as a hitting coach." Apparently JR was unhappy that Thames was too friendly with Ohtani. No. 9 Notre Dame (7-2, at-large) at No. 8 Oregon (8-1, at-large) We don’t think Notre Dame will be out of the playoff bracket the rest of the season unless they lose. The Irish easily took down Navy and a trip to Pitt in Week 12 will bring out ESPN’s “College GameDay.” After Pitt, Notre Dame plays Syracuse and Stanford. It’s hard to see how anyone ousts the Irish from the playoff with a 3-0 finish even if you want to quibble with their schedule. yahoo.com/sports- MLBTR Offseason Outlook on White Sox

Thanks for remembering my quote, Signed Ozzie G.- Kyle Schwarber back to Phillies 5 years/150 mil
Wasn't it 3 1/2 gb the day the trade went down? They were kind of dead in the water as a team at that point.- Kyle Schwarber back to Phillies 5 years/150 mil
Only Rockies/A's...maybe the Pirates or Marlins as well are worse alternatives. Twins wouldn't be much fun either, going from playoffs (beating Yankees) to a complete surrender much worse than the White Flag trade. - Sox fire Katz and Thames
