See post above about Jimenez (from Fathom, link). It's almost like people refuse to be objective about Sox players on this site...just like the coaching staff refuses to look at ALL the information available to make the best possible decisions in game management. It's just another version of Don Cooper cursing out the fans at a remote promo for The Score for daring to question anything with this organization and especially his work with the pitchers. Instead of responding intelligently and patiently, with evidence/support, just go on the offensive.

I think they're more afraid he might have a Matt Thornton-like transformation with another organization, making them look even dumber...especially if they just cut him. Instead, we can have another offseason of hype after he spends time with tech-ier version of Driveline.

Really mature...so, in your opinion, his season is a success. The board will improve tremendously if we curse at each other, because that really makes a point both emphatic and quantitative/objective. No wonder we've gone 11 seasons without making the playoffs.

Even Jimenez is in the bottom ten out of about 60 qualified hitters under age 26 for OPS, which doesn’t even take his defense into account. I guess the response will be Vladimir Jr. is only about 50 points higher and was more hyped.

Reyes was the most popular player in the Padres’ organization. If anything, he’s too nice. Check out his karaoke/singing clips at YouTube.

If Moncada ends up at 800ish ops and Giolito at 3.75-4.00 ERA, they only have Robert, Madrigal, Collins and Kopech left to promote from a PR standpoint...or the human interest story of whether Burger can make it to the big leagues (although not exactly a huge hurdle in this organization.) Looks like another offseason of MEH.

Pursuit of happiness...never a guaranteed outcome. That said, we are reaching a tipping point all around the world in terms of how far unfettered capitalism can improve conditions in second and third world economies and what happens when the Top 0.01% of the world will do anything to hold onto power. We’re seeing it in the Amazon, Brexit, India, Washington or Beijing...whether it’s technoauthoritarianism, nationalism, neoliberalism, globalization, societies around the world are fraying and threatening to come apart.

The biggest change there is the owner stopped interfering with day to day operations, like Snyder in WSH or Jerry Jones.

Even Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland are starting to see significant cracks in their economic models in the last 2-3 years. We have our idealized version from the media and political candidates, but the truth is somewhere in between utopias vs. North Korea/Venezuela.

In the end, $7, $10, $12, not even $15 an hour jobs provide one the ability to pay for an independent, livable lifestyle, let alone allow one to take care of a family. The biggest problem culprit is outsourcing (which comes down to slave labor in third world countries), as the $30-50 manufacturing and labor jobs of the past that used to allow the mother to stay at home and take care of the kids in the 70’s and early 80’s simply don’t exist anymore. With automation, robotics, AI, AR and VR...almost every single job like that will have been replaced or displaced within just two generations of American workers.

Because the entire point of capitalism is maximizing profitability, not the greatest good for the greatest number of people (utilitarianism). But you should read Umair Haque at medium.com, the two of you are like-minded souls.

For all we know, Lisle was working two jobs simultaneously...his side gig of professional consulting as well as getting paid by the White Sox. Thats probably a large part of the reason he keeps moving on quickly from place to place, looking for the bigger better deal. A worker like that who is a self-promoter and overly ambitious will never fit in well with the way the White Sox operate. They will rub too many the wrong way, especially someone like Jim Thome, for example.

Even 16-22 year olds without college degrees? Even if you guarantee them $15/hour or roughly $30k per year, it’s still not an independent, livable wage outside their parents’ house. Of course, what will happen is 1/3rd of the current unskilled/retail/fast food workers will be unemployed and the rest will do 50% more work for that $15, so the operating margins would basically remain the same regardless.

Essentially, we’re arguing about Universal Basic Income at this point. But it has nothing to do with why Lisle is no longer employed by the Sox. We can also argue how the top 0.01% of the Top 10% are benefiting unfairly from the layouts of others...while the reverse argument will hold true as well, that entrepreneurs and risk-takers and visionaries are the ones who create those jobs for the rest of us, and we can either quit, stop complaining or attempt to start our own socially conscious enterprises and run them as we see fit, knowing the majority of our competition will not ever put employees first.

That’s noble enough as an individual, but impossible when you have a wife, children or parents relying on you to take care of them. That’s the world we live in, one comprised of numerous compromises, unless we just remain single our entire lives and cut all family ties.

Sure, the young people protesting in Hong Kong who can never dream of paying or saving up millions of HK dollars for an apartment. They would rather go to jail than be wage slaves without any freedoms. At any rate, disparaging your employer even via tweet doesn’t fly in corporate or non profit. Now you can argue they shouldn’t have fired him, but companies will also make someone so uncomfortable that they feel there is no other option but to quit...maybe they just start ignoring you, give you the cold shoulder, not inviting you to meetings or keeping you out of the loop deliberately.
