Sosa's perceived to be in a slump already and his playing time has been declining...while Maton has been playing nearly every day in the 5th or 6th spot. Baldwin was at least hitting and is still a prospect...but what is it with all the Maton love besides two homers that won't make him a trade target nor help the Sox decide whether to keep Sosa or not.

There’s very little correlation between winning MiLB league championships and producing 3+ fWAR major leaguers. Often, it’s just accidental. obviously, winning is preferable to losing…but development and major league readiness are still the key points of a system For, now we’ve got Colson Montgomery free falling out of the Top 100 and a slew of TJS guys. They could probably use Tommy Edman's 5 homers and 9 RBI's somewhere in the offense...ofc, Jerry Reinsdorf would sooner cut off his arm or leg than pay $74 million to a utility player nearing 30 after the Leury Garcia Experience. So now JR's averse to spending on utility guys (well, over $5 million at least), bullpen guys and extending ANY starting pitcher for longer than 3 years, regardless of their career background/injury history.

Managers like Venable are always going to play their veterans, especially when they come right off the IL...just watch when Rojas returns. Whatever the deadline, they're going to have to wait another 10-12 days or whatever before any recalls for the extra year of service time. I'm not sure they're 100% ready to make any long-term decisions on Vargas OR Sosa (no options remaining) yet, but it would be logical to get rid of Amaya first. Thaiss has actually been playing decently, so IMO they're likely to bring up Quero first (since they're already more familiar with him, he's the hotter hitter, and they already mentioned that Teel still had some areas defensively they wanted him to address)...also assuming Lee goes back down the minors. Not even sure how many options he has available.

For what it's worth, one of the biggest criticisms of Bond (the Craig years) has been that it kind of became a knock-off of the grittier Jason Bourne style...mixed with the pyrotechnics/CGI/stunt-driven Mission Impossible series. I think that's certainly a valid point. And maybe the fact that film-making for a spy series in which the Soviet Union isn't the same "menacing" threat it was during the Connery years and the difficulty/political aspects of making China the enemy (or generic terrorists/Middle Eastern "goons" without an identified country) has taken some of the fun and cheekiness out of the films. I'm glad they didn't go all the way to casting a female Bond...or the critics would have had a field day with it. That said, the double entendres and sexual innuendoes of all the Connery films from the 1960's are highly unlikely to return...for good reason, even for a "male driven" audience that's still roughly 35-40% females in the last 15-20 years or so.

Still not sure how they can play Vargas Sosa Baldwin and Meidroth with all those veteran outfielders rostered...with Josh Rojas returning as well. And then Nick Maton is the current PT obsession of Venable's.

Players with long wings like Sosa can't adapt well to inconsistent or erratic playing time. The problem here is PT gets harder when Rojas returns....and do they REALLY see the value in DHing Nick Maton nearly every single game and then hitting him 5th/6th? He could hit 15-18 homers with that uppercut swing, but to what end?

This sounds exactly like the Pirates for the last twenty years. Except even they have a $100+ million contract for Reynolds.

Once again...who was responsible for the development of guys like Colas Cespedes Ramos? (I guess we just blame Paddy for everything now. That's mighty convenient though.) And players that are rapidly promoted through the minors but lacking in defensive skill sets and/or fundamentals like Baldwin?

But the very regime Getz was a part of helped put the organization in that desperate negotiating position where they lost another $55-60 million to spend this year (going to CHSN and off Comcast)...and seems by all appearances like the least profitable RSN deal in the entire industry. Why would a 121 loss franchise expect a different result than that?

Just like the Red Sox trading Betts instead of signing/extending him was a great move? The majority of time when you move young Cy Young or MVP caliber position players for prospects, it usually backfires. There are always exceptions...but certainly wouldn't bet on it working out consistently. (Just ask Pirates' fans.) Even when management pushes those future cost-savings moves, as with Bloom...it still gets the GM fired eventually. And the amount of overall talent on the big league roster certainly continues to decrease. Leading to a perpetual cycle or series of rebuilds...

If 104% tariffs actually go into place with China...as promised/threatened, you're not going to recover the losses for quite some time. The false/fake rumor of a time out or cooling off (as suggested by Bill Ackman and others) period was what caused the market to dramatically whip saw back and forth. Uncertainty...uncertainty...uncertainty. And a $41 trillion national debt if the H/S budget bills are miraculously reconciled this week won't exactly boost confidence, either.

The only great drafts were under Larry Himes in the mid to late 80s...combined with the Sosa/Alvarez trade.

It's not helping matters (at all) that our biggest hope for a homegrown superstar (Colson Montgomery) looks like a lost cause at the present moment. And Luis Robert's not even getting the unforgettable Gavin Lux back in trade at the moment.

One of the (numerous) with JR's current approach to ownership is the assumption that anywhere from 1/4th to 1/3rd of Chicago will eventually return to the White Sox...some undefined day in the future...no matter what malpractice he does to the team. I think we know enough about teens twenty-somethings/Millennials that we shouldn't just assume they haven't been lost forever to other more "exciting" sports, e-sports/gaming, etc. Those born in 1995 are now 30 and were only ten the last time the White Sox won the WS...how many of those new fans (from back then) are still hanging in there two full decades later (and now 2 full rebuilds) if their entire family/relatives aren't also Sox fans and/or Cub haters (to use a favorite Schiffren term)???
