Kopech to the bullpen, Urena starting Saturday.
caulfield12 replied to Lip Man 1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The 27-year-old right-hander put together a solid first half despite walking 49 in 86 innings, striking out 97 and posting a 4.08 ERA through 17 starts. But Kopech’s fortunes have dipped through 10 second-half starts, with a 7.49 ERA, 39 hits and 11 home runs allowed and 40 walks issued against 32 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings. Kopech and Dylan Cease are the only starters presently penciled into the 2024 rotation. So, the White Sox would like to see a strong finishing kick from a hard-working hurler who has not completed at least six innings since June 4 and has worked less than five in five straight starts. -- Scott Merkin -

I was just referring to dWAR and oWAR numbers with Muncy and Burger. Jake is now up to #10 among MLB 3B. It would be the classic Sox way to go from a 27 year old cost-controlled player to a 33 year old FA in Muncy who's obviously going to be magnitudes more expensive. 14.3 -2.9 2.7 Burger 12.5 -2.5 2.6 Muncy

Haven't seen Cespedes' name in ages.

You apparently haven't watched him the last week. And his defense has normally since 2021...especially with regular playing time, and not having to focus on 2B and 1B as well. He's basically the exact same offensive and defensive profile as Max Muncy this year with the Dodgers. The Marlins have had no issue with sticking him in the lineup every day at 3B for Jean Segura. He's somewhere between the 12th and 14th best 3B in baseball depending on which metric or standard you use, but certainly in the Top 50% at the position.

Bryan Shaw and his 5.46 ERA has just taken over the 2024 closer's role. Contract extension forthcoming? Thought Shaw was close to 40. Still just 35, lol. Seems like he has been around forever. -

Pretty sure a reference to Bummer. -
Who's going to play 3B after 2024? Ramos is going to need to be a 20-30 homer guy...and while that's a possibility, not having Burger on the roster puts more pressure across all the other positions on the roster other than Robert (and you can't discount him at some point feeling too much pressure to carry the team and with nobody to protect him in the lineup as well). We haven't had a permanent DH because we couldn't field a guy who could 1) consistently stay healthy and 2) hit over 800 against both RH and LHP respectively. If we had a Yordan Alvarez, you can be pretty sure he wouldn't be sitting on the bench very often.

Playoff/WC hunt baby.

Feb 2021 when they re-signed for another decade seems twenty Sox lifetimes ago. But does back all the way to 1999.

Well, it's going to stay with Gordon whether you like it or not...especially when he starts working "under" Getz as a broadcaster. 2011? That's the kind of thing kids would joke about in the 1980s or early 90s. Hence his being forced to quickly apologize. Balta definitely will have an opinion here, lol. At any rate, it sounds like a likely defense from a drunken yuppie stockbroker situated in the Wrigley bleachers...who was undoubtedly in a frat as well.

Well, we do have Luis Robert, Jr., and....uhm. Never mind.

"Getz is gay!" Nice job jackass Gordon Beckham. https://larrybrownsports.com/baseball/gordon-beckham-apologizes-for-writing-getz-is-gay-in-dirt-picture/76441

Not George Armstrong Custer?

The Chris Getz White Sox refuse to not lose. They staked a 6-0 lead with Dylan Cease on the mound, then watched the Royals bleed it dry over the final seven innings. Gregory Santos allowed Bobby Witt Jr. to tie it with a one-out double, and although he got Salvador Perez to line out to short with the winning run on third, Santos then balked in the winning run for no good reason. The White Sox are now 0-5 since Chris Getz was named White Sox general manager, and it’s only getting funnier. Jim Margalus Sox Machine

Words never said about Chris Getz “He’s somebody you want to work with and you want to work for. He’s somebody that every day challenges the way you think in productive ways,” Arnold said. “He’s going to make any situation better wherever he ends up. “It’s probably the combination of both EQ and IQ honestly. He has this great feel with people and understanding and relates to a lot of people in a lot of different ways. And then he’s one of the smartest guys in the room at all times. “That’s a really dangerous combination.” nypost.com on former Brewers' GM David Stearns

Isn't that going to make Getz look untruthful? Or he's just going to later say some gobbledygook about just trying to get through the front office transition...continuity or stability were most important in that moment for the major league roster to focus on....preparing for 2024, blah blah blah? Or like the dreaded vote of confidence for football and basketball coaches in mid-season?

If anything, Charlotte would be looking for an affiliation agreement with another MLB team that's going to provide them much better talent/winning or post-season quality teams.

The Ventura Years...

Deion had claimed TWENTY years of coaching experience on FOX last weekend, but it's actually closer to 10+. If Deion Sanders can shock the world in Game 1, imagine what he can do with Colorado in the coming years (yahoo.com) Sanders has made an effort to coach at several different stops. His first coaching position in 2012, was with the charter school Prime Prep Academy, which he helped found. Sanders was later fired as the coach after CFO Kevin Johnson alleged Sanders assaulted him by grabbing him by the collar and pushing him against a wall. Sanders denied the claim, pleading no contest and later paying a $765.70 fine related to the charge. In 2015, Sanders was named the CEO of FOCUS Academies and granted the head coaching position at the Triple A academy, where Sanders led them to face his alma mater North Fort Myers High School in Florida, a game featuring a key matchup between several ranked recruits.[87] On August 17, 2017, it was announced by CBS Sports that Sanders would be switching coaching positions at a new high school to become the offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill high school in Cedar Hill, Texas. The move was significant for Sanders, as both his sons played at the high school. Sanders served on the staff as offensive coordinator under former Dallas Cowboy Aveion Cason.[88] While continuing to work as an NFL analyst, Sanders became the head coach for the Prime Prep Academy which he co-founded. He stayed as the head coach for 2012 and 2013. In 2015, he was hired as the head coach for Triple A Academy where he was the coach for two seasons. In 2017, he became the offensive coordinator for Trinity Christian High School giving him the opportunity to coach his sons Shilo and Shedeur.[40]
