Tigers not a lock for AL Central title
Marky Mark replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) If Westbrook, HGH, and Sowers/Lee/Laffey/whoever else they throw into that 5th starter spot step it up, then the Tribe will take this division. I thought the subtlety of Byrd's nickname here is really funny. -
So what pitchers do the White Sox have that we could be excited about now?
-
If they saw Sweeney as the best player in that deal they must have really thought they got away with the steal of a lifetime if they get DLS and Gio as throw ins.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) I don't know if I'd consider that a reliable trend. Pretty small sample size. Yeah you're right, I guess I meant it as more of a testament of Fields against lefties I guess, with Sabathia being a lefty. Cuz Fields in '07 put up .321/.371/.698/1.069, that's delicious.

Although I do agree that the Sox are not as far out of this as people claim and have possibility to compete with Cleveland, I have to disagree with the statement about the bullpen. I think Cleveland is better there. Bullpens can be tough to compare because some years guys are so good and the next year they're not, but I just feel like the Sox are not better than the Indians outside of the closer aspect. Jenks>Borowski Linebrink MacDougal Thornton Wasserman in is 2nd season Also don't forget about this guy called Victor Martinez, he's much better than our catcher. The Indians may also get Adam Miller going in the starting rotation sometime this year if he can get back on track. I do feel like the Sox have a very good bench at this point though, much better than the Tribe. Plus two of our newer players can handle lefties pretty well. Swisher vs. Sabathia= 5 for 18, 2 BBs, 2RBIs Fields vs. Sabathia= 2 for 6

You know what is somewhat possible? Although I really doubt either would start the year there, there maybe some possibility that either De Los Santos or Chris Carter could be playing for Cougars at one point in '08 if they struggle at their starting level or have to work their way back after an injury. If they were I would absolutely go see them at a Cougars game.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
Marky Mark replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I haven't read this thread, has anyone dubbed Swisher as "Ole' Spider Arm" yet? -
QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) Bureau, now that DLS, Sweeney and Gio are gone, any chance you can show their scouting reports like you did for Cunningham? If you can thatd be something interesting to see. Thanks. I second that request.

I was at that Royals game, I remember Myers coming in to the Austin Powers music and laughing, then one pitch later he was gone, we were hoping they'd start playing the Austin Powers music as he was walking off as well.

The White Sox and Alexei Ramírez agree to 4 year deal
Marky Mark replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 22, 2007 -> 12:04 AM) I would rather receive the answer from the poster I asked the question of instead of the poster that started the "Which White Sox player would win in a fight??" thread. Thank you though. I appreciate your insight. Sorry, my apologies Southsiderirish that wasn't meant to be a response to you as a clueless angry person, I just meant the White Sox fanbase who really is clueless for the most part, who won't read on forums, discuss players, check rotoworld for updates, and think critically and in-depth about their team, but instead watches WGN and reads Jay Mariotti entirely for their Sox updates. That wasn't meant to be a shot at you or anyone on this forum. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 11:51 PM) Since your a White Sox insider and in player development you must know the reason the White Sox signed this guy. Do they want him to be a utility guy or are they looking at him as a future Centerfielder or shortstop? I really don't know why you posted all that you posted. You do know that they can find out who you are even if you don't post your name on this site. Wouldn't some in the White Sox organization not want stuff posted that you have posted? Perhaps they signed him to shut a lot of angry clueless people up. -
What's your criteria for a quality start? I wish baseball used earned run average median, instead of ERA to measure a player's worth. I feel like that'd be more accurate.
-
that's only 2 million more than Torri, I'm surprised he isn't demanding more given he's the best in baseball.
-
I bet Big Butt Uribe used. Anyone want to guess where he applied it? If less than half of the Sox players tried at one time in their career I would be shocked. I feel like more than half of professional players, or at least MLB players did what they could because steroids seemed like using creatine or protein powder, a norm.

Unless we blow up the team, trading Paulie seems like a bad idea to me. Realistically Thome probably can't produce much more than maybe 1 more solid, healthy year, I just feel like he's going to get hurt and we won't pick up his '09 option and JD is really just a 80 RBI guy, but not a good source in the lineup where we can expect 100-115 RBIs. Unless Fields steps up to where we hope him to go, I think Konerko is the only reliable one to be the Sox's run driver-inner, so we've got to keep him unless we're blowing this whole thing up. .

If KW does the following, I'll feel better about 2008
Marky Mark replied to gosox41's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Those three players would probably not get Hall alone, so I doubt they'd accept that and then just throw in the staff ace for the heck of it. -
Everything Falling into place to get...

QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 9, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) I can deal with Coco Crisp. Yeah I'd take Coco Crisp over Aaron Rowand any day, I just don't see what the BoSox need for him that we can give. -
Figgins available if Angels acquire 3b man
Marky Mark replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
who here would trade Fields for Figgins? -
I want Jerry Owens in CF next year!!!!
-
Capuano vs Floyd? Cappy any day. Just consider him your 5th starter and you'll feel better.

Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
Marky Mark replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
This could be Thome's last year on the Sox, I think there's a team option for '09, if he doesn't perform this season he could be gone, and JD would fall into the DH spot. -
Rowand not ruling out return to South Side
Marky Mark replied to Chisox_fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Torii says that because the plan was to sign him and that was it. -

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) I kinda like this lineup as well, but I think Fukodome may end up in RF with Dye moving to LF, just an idea. I heard Fukodome can more than easily handle RF and Dye coule probably be rejuvinated by moving to a less demanding position. Now...if we were to trade PK and Crede, it would get us back more than Figgins and Kotchman in my view. Why do you think LF would be less demanding? I'd think that'd be worse because there are more hits to left than right. Unless you just mean no throws from RF to 3B?
