Gio Gonzalez...classiest player in the organization
Marky Mark replied to JPN366's topic in FutureSox Board
JPB366, did you just meet him or something? -
Where oh where has Chris Carter gone???

I have tickets to tonight's game. Do you guys think I should bother even trying to go to the game or no? I'm all the way out in Aurora and I don't really want to waste my gas/parking money/time if the game isn't going to go on, but at the same time I really don't want to just not show up and then the game goes on ya know after I got the tickets ya know? Do you guys think I should bother? Weather.com doesn't look good.

How bout some love for Allen too? He might deserve Winston Salem.
-
my bad, after tonight his august stats should include 8 HRs and 29 RBIs. Take that A-Rod.

QUOTE(Shadows @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Didn't Shelby just hit a Grand Slam the other day too? Lately I've almost began to stop thinking about Carter when I check the box for Kanny. Allen, Carter, and Shelby have been impressive this year. Shelby batted .282 with 3HR and 26RBIs before the all-star break (65 games), in August alone (19 games) he has pretty much outdone that entire first half of the season as he is hitting .366 with 7 HR and 25 RBIs.

I didn't think about this until I saw it on the screen at the game tonight, but Fields is leading the AL for rookies in the home runs category. Made me put things in a different perspective a little bit.

Adam Foster at projectprospect.com wrote a brief piece, comparing Eggy and Alan Horne and encourages response. Just thought Soxtalk might have something to say. http://projectprospect.com/

I can't believe how many people here can't think outside of the temporary box. Come on guys, most of you were probably agreeing that Jon was the real ace of the team back between June 4 and July 1. If you want to trade him because you want to free up money that's one thing, but don't say you want to trade him just because he's pitched bad for the past month and a half. He's not a Cy Young by any means, but we all know he's a lot better than he is right now. Are you still going to be yelling for a trade when he's putting up zeros and getting us wins?

Here are some other players' stats with their first teams in comparison to Poreda, keep in mind he's had plenty of college ball Poreda in GF 1.24 ERA 36.1IP 35 Ks (20 yrs old) Gio in Bristol 2.25 ERA 24 IP 36Ks (18 yrs old) Eggy in GF 3.37 ERA 58 IP 58 Ks (21 yrs old) Broadway in WS 4.58 ERA 55 IP 58 Ks (22 yrs old) Buehrle in A-ball 4.10 ERA 98 IP 91 Ks (20 yrs old) [in majors less than a year later] Garland in Rk-ball 2.70 ERA 40 IP 39Ks (18 yrs old) McCarthy Rk-ball 2.76 ERA 78 IP 79 Ks (19 yrs old) McCulloch GF 1.61ERA 22.1IP 27 Ks (21 yrs old) Although a good start doesn't guarantee much, it does show that he wasn't a complete waste by any means so far as some feared. He's been great (minus the minor arm pain earlier, when he didn't play).

I don't know but that always bugs me too.

For the most part he's had pretty good year, he just had three poor starts prior to his shutout and a tough april, but I think he's been good most of the season. Monthly ERA April 6.65 May 3.34 June 2.32 July 3.21 August 5.47

Buehrle's Proud Career: -3.78 ERA -1.26 WHIP -106-74, 228 GS -922/362 K/BB -5 Seasons over 220 IP -One World Series Ring -One No-Hitter Zambrano's Proud Career: -3.37 ERA -1.28 WHIP -78-51, 172 GS -1004/524 K/BB -1 Season over 220IP -8 Pairs of pants soiled while pitching -1-2 Fights with former Cub, Michael Barrett So if we judge them entirely by ERA I guess Zammy's better, but is he that much better which he deserved the contract he got? Mark does eat a ton more innings than Carlos does though because Carlos focuses on the strikeout so much more.

Can you say slump???

We hear about guys switching from SS to 3B like A-Rod did when he came to New York, but how bout 3B to SS? If we moved Fields that would fill in for Uribe and give Crede a chance to prove himself again. The only question is, is this even a possibility? Anybody ever heard of a 3B to SS switch?
-
No, you're right there was a duck fart last night.
-
Sorry no, I didn't see him in person, I phrased that badly. I just mean he pitched a good game for his first start. I was glad to see only one walk.
-
The replays happened too fast for me to see for sure, but I think the fan who jumped up for the home run let the ball go right through his fingers and it hit him square in the face sending the fan to the ground. I hope he was ok, but it looked really really funny.

I like what I saw out of Griffeth's first start.
-
Anyone find proof of this yet? Milb.com does not agree yet.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) oh, if we deal w/ the Dodgers, might as well get Meloan as well. I wouldn't mind him either. I wish we had signed Percival this year.
-
Yes I agree, as good of a pitcher as he has been for us, he would have to become an even better pitcher and stay that way to become a HOFer. He is viewed by other teams as a good pitcher but not a great one. When he is on top of his game he still is not quite that close to how Santana, Clemens, or Pedro are when they're on top of their games. He's more of a White Sox hall of famer than a MLB hall of famer.

I just typed up Gio under the MiLB.com player search and his name came up without a team next to it. This is something that sometimes happens when a player gets promoted. Do you guys know if his name has been like this (without a team next to it) for a while, or perhaps he may be getting moved up? After all, his last three games have been very good. Just something I noticed...

Lets sign Brian Daubach.
-
My worst nightmare would be if he signed with the Cubs. Oh gosh I'd hate that. However I'm pretty sure they must be close to not having much more money....
