De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 6, 2008 -> 07:06 PM) going to hang out at my friends now and there's some discussion of getting it, so we'll see. I've always watched boxing and usually you get the better fights (excitement wise) on HBO or SHO. I'm a little torn on this match, Pac-Man has never fought above 135 I believe and he's at 143 in this fight and Oscar is at 145 and hasn't fought at the 147 limit in about 7 years, so it sets up perfectly for ODLH to win then do another mega money match with Hatton, probably at a higher weight than Hatton is use to (147). When I get a few minutes I'll poke around google and see if I can find an article I read over the last year or so about how MMA fans aren't really converted boxing fans, and they had some numbers to support it. I watch both and enjoy both. Everyone had DLH winning this fight with no contest It's almost laughable how badly Pac-man beat the old man up, it was at times grossly embarassing MP was landing almost 70% of his power shots, lol

De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 02:37 AM) I'm gonna sound like a hater, but here it goes anyway. As a guy who did some boxing when I was younger and as a fan of the sport, I cannot believe that no one has figured out how to beat Pacquiao. The man has no jab and he doesn't put his punches together. He throws few combinations, or very few effective ones. What he has, is perhaps the best straight right hand in the sport right now, or maybe ever. He attacks early and keeps bouncing and moving FORWARD and putting all his weight behind every right hand shot. His opponents are always on the defensive, moving backward and taking that right hand bomb. The only chance you have at beating him is to be the aggressor, by moving him back and not letting him set up with a steady jab in his face. By keeping his feet moving backward, you take away all the power in that right hand. A fighter will never beat him, only a true, skilled boxer can. DeLaHoya was that guy.....8 years ago. Apparently you're not giving any credibility to Pacquiao's countering ability, he's a sickening counter puncher, especially when fighting slower guys Being aggressive doesn't necessarily mean it's going to work when a guy who is as fast as MP is (arguably faster than PBF, due to his smaller frame) can counter pretty much anything, especially slower fighters I don't think he'd stand a chance against Margarito because I don't think his power would be enough to phase Antonio (Let's face it, AM is a middle weight holding a welterweight title), when Cotto seemingly reconstructed AM's face and it was like there was a Cyborg underneath his outer shell, cosmetic damage and nothing else I'd pay 200 bones to watch Pacquiao and Margarito face off though, even though (i think..) MP said he doesn't plan on going up to 160

Sox May be Interested in Jorge Cantu
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) Even he essentially said that. He's glad to be moving to the AL where there's a DH. Only reason he said that was, not because he was a poor defensive catcher but, because he was blocked by McCann

Sox May be Interested in Jorge Cantu
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) KW has no problem having a mediocre to bad defensive catcher in AJ, why would he care if Flowers is mediocre to bad? Mediocre to bad in the pros is not the same as mediocre to bad in A-ball

Sox May be Interested in Jorge Cantu
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) And you think this why? He is young and has a lot of room to improve defensively, however he's already played some 1B for the Brave's in A-ball He's also 6'4, 250+ pounds, I'd have a hard time believing his ultimate destination is anywhere else than 1B

Sox May be Interested in Jorge Cantu
QUOTE (R.J. @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 09:38 AM) Maybe Kenny is going to flip Cantu to the Padres for Jake Peavy.

Sox May be Interested in Jorge Cantu
isn't cantu a power hitting, low on-base guy? i know he's like 25 or 26, but would that be worth giving up fields and our only true defensive catching prospect?

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200811053656761 short clip about atlanta's arizona fall league players, flowers headlines the video http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200811053656761 Javy's press conference with Atlanta Bobby Cox: "I consider Javy an elite pitcher, really a national league pitcher."

If no other pitchers are acquired, after the Vaz trade...
Coop on the score right now Says Marquez and Richard are being pencilled in as of now, as #4 and #5 (in that order) He says Marquez looks really good, I guess

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
I guess it's weird that I feel kind of sad that Uribe is going to be playing somewhere else

Speculation: Is this a precursor to a Peavy Deal?
Peavy won't come to the american league

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 08:32 AM) Cowley was on the score earlier and said he has to believe that this is a precursor to another move...didnt really say what it could be, but he thinks it got done before the winter meetings for a reason, so that KW can go there and execute some sort of plan He mentioned a deal for Hudson wouldn't surprise him I can't fathom why we'd want to block Beckham for a few years..

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 07:52 AM) And it seems we added another big, slow, power hitter . . . stop me if you've heard this before. Another big, slow, former catcher converted to 1B, stop me if you've heard this before...

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
G&T, good post. However I disagree with you that our division is set to suck again for 2009. With the offseason just starting, we don't know what DET and CLE will look like next year, and I believe CLE will be a much better team in 2009, they were great down the stretch this year and ended up being .500 Put that into perspective given how bad their record was half-way through the year (41-54)

Dye to Reds Speculation
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 07:15 AM) You are hopelessly clueless. I'm guessing you're like 18 years old, so you have no clue who Tommy John and Bert Blyleven were. Check out their career stats and tell me a pitcher has no control over giving up home runs. I'll agree that a pitcher has some control over whether or not he gives up a HR, however a hitter ultimately has the final decision to take a pitch, or swing at it and if he swings, where he wants to put his bat while he swings There are many homeruns that are hit on good pitches

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 07:01 AM) Something else to remember. the last time the White Sox offered a pool of prospects to another team to choose from, it worked out well for us...overhyped CF Anthony Webster, P Josh Rupe and P Frank Francisco. To this day, KW has given up very little that we can sit about and be really, really upset about... Francisco Chris Young Carlos Torres Ryan Sweeney That's about it...maybe Gio Gonzalez, although he obviously took a step back in his development this season. Has anyone posted in this long thread about being upset that we only got younger by trading Javy (and Boone), and not necessarily better? I think I'm worried as a fan that the ~12 million + Boone's small salary will not be reinvested into the major league club, and will be marked away as "Trimming the payroll". That doesn't sit well with me after winning the division. If Kenny deals JD for another handful of prospects, I feel strongly that this could lead to a small firesale and the team is not going to be very competitive in 2009 He himself was 12-16, however I put zero relevance in a pitchers Win/Loss record. Having said that, the Sox won 16 games of the 33 games Javier started (48.4% Winning Percentage). There were a handful of games that he started throughout the year where he hadn't gotten any run support (e.g. vs. NYY, TOR twice, OAK, TB, and BAL), so we had opportunities to turn Javy's personal W/L into something more respectable, while winning more games as a team as well I'm not against this trade, not one bit (Flowers sounds like an elite prospect, and I'm excited to have him in our system), but unless that money is reinvested into a free agent signing, or we flip some of our minor leaguers for a MLB-ready #4-5 starting pitcher, it will leave me a bit concerned as a fan. IMO trading Jermaine Dye, despite the fact that some people feel he's "injury-prone", would hurt the club more than it would help, unless we used the money to sign Furcal or another top-level free agent

Sox still interested in Willy Taveras
QUOTE (SEALgep @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) Wonder if we receive a veteran leadoff hitter by other means, and then Taveras as a CF 9 hole hitter? If his bat was to replace Uribe, I have to feel it is a significant upgrade, especially with his speed. Replace Uribe's bat... in what capacity?
