  1. There's still over an hour to, ill believe it when I see it that they couldn't move any of these guys. I find it hard to believe.
  2. Yes, they could give him away right now if they wanted to. I meant more like if he hit the open market this offseason and could command a 5/100 deal he would have been traded for something not trash by now.
  3. What in the world? They can't even trade him as of right now, if he could command a 5/100 deal he would be on someone else's team right now.
  4. Exactly. If you have been paying attention, JR would much rather pay 10 players $2M each instead of 1 player $20M.
  5. Yes, but the player is not worth it, not the one we have seen for the last 2 years anyways. I use the term albatross in regards to having to pay an underperforming player a $20M salary.
  6. JR aside, there is no owner in sports who is just going to keep an albatross contract when given the option to completely eliminate it, regardless of how low their payroll is. Do people really think a financial shrewed owner like JR is going to look at this and go "Eh, just pay him $20M our payroll is low anyways and its not going to kill me".... come on.....
  7. Yeah I fully agree with that. The problem is I don't think we have an owner who does.
  8. Robert has been pretty mediocre for 2 full seasons now, there is definitely cause for concern that a bounce back ever happens.
  9. Did you forget who the owner of this team is? He has a chance to eliminate $20M off the books for a player who is in no way shape or form earning that salary. Its not my money, I dont care about it, but I understand the man who DOES care about it.
  10. This checks out, honestly before the 2016 tear down I can't really remember a time where the Sox weren't "going for it" so to speak. 2016 and then 2024 are really the only tear downs I can even recall in my lifetime as a fan
  11. The problem with keeping Robert is you are essentially making a $20M gamble. He not only will need to stay healthy, but he will also need to produce like he used to several years ago now. If there are no offers at all right now for him as a cheap rental, you aren't getting any offers when he's a $20M rental in the offseason which at that point you are now hoping he has an incredible first half. Then you are still facing the reality of trying to trade a rental OFer which as you have seen today isn't worth dick. I still do not see anyway they exercise this option. It makes zero financial sense for the organization.
  12. I think the criticism is they asked for the moon and the other team went somewhere else and never came back, although this hasn't been proven to be true yet.
  13. Yes, its tough but just need to be patient. I just can't believe they don't move anyone else, there's no way.
  14. If they don't trade Robert, keep Tauchman, and then extend Houser, im going to have to seriously question how much longer I can follow this dumpster fire.
  15. Just got a wonderful ESPN notification that the Sox appear unlikely to trade Robert now.
  16. Would be nice to see Cease traded and then the Padres use some of that capital to get Houser and Robert from us.
  17. Yes, the plan where they traded for Kimbrel and he was dreadful so they picked up the option expecting to flip him for something to recoup their value and ended up just swapping him out for another high priced bad player.
  18. Just totally braindead if that's what happens. You trade him for ANYTHING if this is the plan.
  19. Im just picturing a scenario where they don't trade Robert and then he gets his option declined in the offseason.
  20. I have no idea, but it would indicate there may have been something there if they said the Blue Jays were discussing Houser and then they actually do end up trading for a starting pitcher.
  21. Could that be because the Sox had an unrealistic ask so they pivoted to Bieber?
  22. I certainly hope so, because getting something nice for pulling him off the scrap heap would be a huge win. I think its concerning that report that said the Red Sox would prefer Civale over Houser. Like, what?
  23. Suarez is a 34 year old rental player, I think the return is fine.
  24. Well there’s at least one.
  25. Shane Bieber has thrown 12 MLB innings since 2023, if he can net a Top 5 organizational prospect I sure hope they can get a solid return for Houser.
