It's s***ty here and it hasn't even snowed a ton.
  2. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 09:16 PM) Freddy continues to be underrated. 2010 league average (180IP): 4.14 ERA; 1.344 WHIP; 8.9 H/9; 1.0 HR/9; 3.2 BB/9; 6.8 K/9 2010 Freddy Garcia (157IP): 4.64 ERA; 1.376 WHIP; 9.8 H/9; 1.3 HR/9; 2.6 BB/9; 5.1 K/9 Freddy wasn't too far from being a league average pitcher last year, with the main knock being IP after his first full season back from surgery. And if you look at all the pitchers Freddy outperformed last year (and some of them may be surprising) while taking into account their salaries, what Freddy did for us was pretty damn valuable. He's certainly worth $2M guaranteed, so I have to believe there were better money offers out there. Freddy needs the opportunity to win a starting job and keep it though, so I'm sure that's why he went to New York. Good luck to him. Yeah, but he's a hell of a lot more likely to regress than tend towards the league average or even maintain.
  3. Here's a little game. I'll start off by mentioning a random White Sox player from the past. The next person that replies has to reply with a thought, memory, opinion, etc. about that player, and then they choose a new player. Mike Devereaux
  4. FWIW, the only Hawkeye I've ever heard associated with steroids is Pat Angerer.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) Ha, well while that may be true, and Jackson could certainly be a dynamite reliever, he has proven to be an extremely durable starting pitcher and very capable of doing so. It does go to show that trading Jackson for Joba just simply does not make sense. I don't think that some people realize the kind of value Jackson does indeed hold, including what he showed after we acquired him last year.
  6. Goddamn, I should at least get credit for not liking Cutler beforehand, before it became fashionable.
  7. You're going down tonight, PHF.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 08:21 PM) Well, it was a nice couple that came to see the bike. And they didn't kill me or steal the bike. But they didn't buy it yet either. Although they did seem very interested and wanted a night to sleep on it. It was the right size, so that is good. Hopefully I will have a sale done tomorrow. That's what she said
  9. First thing I thought too.

  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) Ha I saw your line of -14 on Rock M and think that's laughable. It's always entertaining with Mizzou. They might pull away late, but we haven't blown out real teams this year. LOL, Mizzou is such a bad matchup for us.
  12. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) It's amazing that Texas isn't underachieving for once. You ready to score 110 points tonight?
  13. Well, if JR loves Mark as much as he loves Paulie, he'll try his damndest to get something done.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) Iowa State with another oh-so-close loss on the road. After losing on a single free through with less than a second left at Nebraska, they lost in OT to Okie State. This team is much more competitive in the B12 than anyone thought they would be. Even the games they have lost, they have stayed very close, even on the road or against a team like Kansas. But Freddy has some recruiting work to do. Three of his starters are seniors. I still think this team has a strong shot at an NIT bid. NCAA chances that we already slim are fading. All is forgiven with a win tonight. I don't think we can ball with Mizzou for 40 minutes, but we'll try.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) Gottleib spent a while on his show Wednesday trying to claim that it wasn't. It was a pretty bad argument. He also asserted that this will help all Big 12 schools because a "rising tide lifts all boats," but he never explained how the massive funding advantage for Texas really will benefit others. It doesn't really hurt the other Big 12 teams in FB and MBB, the only two sports that matter. It does ZERO to devalue the Big 12 TV package.
  16. Pretty damn pumped for tonight's game. Iowa State @ Oklahoma State, 8 PM on ESPNU. If you're curious, give it a watch.
  17. At least it should further stabilize the Big 12.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) "Which Jay Cutler will show up" is such a cliche. You realize there's different reasons that Cutler's games go the way they do that may or may not have anything to do with Cutler, and that those reasons apply to any other QB too, but people only apply that to him, and in extremes of "over 100 QB rating" or "worst game in his career." That, and the imaginary interception category that Cutler seems to lead the NFL in. He leads in WTF passes in games that I get to watch here in Iowa, which are primarily Bears, Packers, Chiefs games.
  19. Have to remember the Magic are a different team than they were before the trade.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) After that Jets game I'm not sure I can officially doubt you again...but I can't narrow down what might cost either team this game. The Bears lost the last game because their defense finally broke for a long pass play at the end, because Forte didn't get the ball enough, because their ST didn't score a big play, their defense didn't really create turnovers, because the O-Line couldn't hold back GB, and because Cutler had an inaccurate day. Change any of those and the Bears still probably win the last game. What did I say about the Jets? I don't remember... My record this year was 160-96. So I'm right a little more than half the time.
  21. To be fair, Row could have lined up as QB against Carolina and won.
  22. I join the 40 hour a week workforce tomorrow.
  23. http://deadspin.com/5736801/a-fond-farewel...man-in-baseball Love the Deadspin take on how Gil Meche set the pace for average.
  24. Considering the Packers haven't been behind by more than seven, well, yet this season, I'd say they have a chance. I really think this game will come down to special teams and what Jay Cutler shows up.
