  1. You know, if you didn't have any numbers in front of you, you'd think Puig's season last year absolutely dominated anything Abreu has done this year. The media never stopped talking about Puig. I get he was also a polarizing figure, and still is, but he was non stopped talked about for his great play as well. Abreu only gets mentioned when people talk about how Abreu should be mentioned more.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) who ever used their ipod for videos though, that always seemed silly to me Funny story, back in 2005/2006, I had a Creative Zen Vison: M. I was the only one, it seemed, with an MP3 player that could play videos. So I would bring a splitter with me, and I would gather a group of 2-4 people to huddle around a 2 inch screen during woodshop class to watch either movies or funny internet videos. It's hilarious to think back on that that we could watch that tiny screen for 90 minutes with 1 earbud in to boot. But people used to fight over who could borrow it which day of the week.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 09:18 PM) B-R's wonky WAR calculation has Eaton as ninth highest position player in MLB, with 4.0 Wonky is right. Fangraphs has him at only 2.0, which is 11th best for CFers only. I feel just based on what I've seen, that he would be somewhere in the middle of those two figures, closer to the value that Denard Span has given the Nationals, and not the value that Carlos Gomez (4.2 bWAR) or Marcell Ozuna (2.2 bWAR) has provided.
  4. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 05:30 PM) Ya I think that's what it was too...Right now he's at .376. He keeps going like he's goin and it's realistic to think he might get there. He's going to need to get that BB% up over 10%, because I doubt he is going to end the year hitting .325+.
  5. I really hope Adam Eaton bunts, but at the same time, I think Lewis may throw fastballs at Abreu's head if he does. f*** it, I'll roll the dice. Do it, Adam!
  6. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) Dude is awesome.... Anyone remember that stat line he threw out there at the beginning of the year was?? Was it a .400 OBP?
  7. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 12:29 PM) I'll be listening to the radio broadcast. Lots of talent in that WS staff currently, even w/o Frankie. Would be sweet if he's able to back up his last awesome start. You know, I thought it was Wendle-Ken every time I read it at as well, but apparently it's pronounced Wen-del-ken.

  9. I pick Sale because he is younger, cheaper, and has been great for years now. I love Abreu, but Sale done this year after year.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) I loved the Spencer Adams pick at the time and I love it still. Any chance he will get promoted to Great Falls soon? Is AZL play considered much better than HS ball that Adams faced? I mean, I absolutely love his 40 K to 2 BB, that's just insane, but I'm wondering if he really doesn't get challenged until he gets to Kanny.
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 08:13 PM) If Adam Engel ever figures it out...that kid could be a monster. A physical Mike Trout, apparently.
  12. Is that a clip from the WWE? What the hell? He didn't even hit him, and the ump flopped back. Was this scripted? lol.
  13. I'm pretty disappointed, but as long as we move 2-3 of these guys in August, it will be okay. But once Detroit got Price, I was ready to say f*** IT, and dump them all.
  14. I do it the way you describe, but my mother does it way that your wife does it (when we don't use the dishwasher, like at our lake house). I also am very particular about drying the cups out. I HAVE to dry the insides of the cups out completely before I stack them. My parents stack them wet and it always grosses me out that I am going to have a gross, slimly or moldy cup if no air gets in there. I also inspect every cup before I use it, and never use the same cup twice without cleaning it in between (if the cups sits out for any extended length of time I mean, not just a few minutes).
  15. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 03:58 PM) I don't think it's as simple as saying he's not good anymore. Players have good and bad defensive seasons same as hitting. One thing that drove his high defensive rating is his great arm. Led the league in outfield assists last year. Could be that runners don't run on him as much. Looks like he's made errors at a higher rate this year too. Any reports out of Arizona on his defense? edit: this made me look up some of his plays. This one from last year is nuts. I can't really imagine any other outfielder making that play. He has one of the best arms I've ever seen.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 01:02 PM) Thanks how about batting average ? Hosmer is hitting .400 in July. Abreu at .359, Ackley at .390, Kendrick at .361. It will be either Santana, Abreu, Hosmer, or Hunter.
  17. fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) Not gonna lie, I don't know one Hayes from another. That's racist.
  19. I've been opining to get Parra for about 5 years now.
  20. QUOTE (newguy @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) I really feel that has been the key to Brad's success so far is that he is simply not giving up free passes. He's only had 10 - 3-ball counts in 62 plate appearances. (16%) He exclusively throws from the stretch, so there's no adjustments needed going from a windup to the stretch. Less moving parts means less chance for a mechanical error & less things to think about since it's just a repeat of the throwing motion just like the previous pitch. He is throwing strikes at 66% rate & first pitch strikes at 68%. When you get ahead of hitters basically 2/3 of the time, advantage goes to the pitcher every time. I keep track of his 1-1 count pitches as well & since that's the 2nd most important pitch. (after the FPS) There's about a .200 point swing in batting avg. if that 1-1 pitch is a strike vs. a ball, he is at 67% throwing a 1-1 strike. He's still got a long way to go, but he is very focused & dedicated & I'm very proud of him for that. I hope your son takes the same cerebral approach to pitching as you seem to. I think baseball is a perfect sport for the athletic nerds out there. Maybe Bradley and Brian Bannister could be friends!
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 11:02 AM) I can't wait, Sherlock of bbc will start on xmas day. have anyone seen this series ..... its great. It's my 2nd favorite show on TV right now, after Shameless. Sherlock is brilliant.
  22. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) No offense, but maybe your friends just don't know much about history. My guess is they ask a bunch of comedians which particular historical story they know, get them completely loaded, and simply let them talk about it. This is my thought as well. And since these comedians know they will be on camera talking about the historic event, I'm sure they are told to brush up on the history of it. It definitely does not seem as though they are reading anything, and they are absolutely hammered.
  23. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 11:54 AM) How do the prospects compare to Avi? White Sox got a much better return for Peavy than the Red Sox. Which is how it should be given the extra year of his control we gave up, but it's nice to know Hahn made the right move.
