SEAGER SMASH. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) So the draft lovers on this board can't have it both ways. You have to admit the Cubs are probably going to be regulars in the postseason for a pretty long stretch. If you are a draftnik (I use the term in a friendly way) you probably LOVE the Cubs' chances for success in the future. So many top players in the system now. The Cubs have an amazing collection of great hitting prospects, and if they are able to acquire pitching through trades or FA, then they could be a very good team in the next 3-5 years, but their major league roster is so devoid of good young talent, sans Rizzo, that no one should really be counting on anything yet. They've only won half the battle so far (developing a top farm system). The other battle is constructing a good major league team to match it.

Saw Transcendence last night. Would not recommend it. It wasn't terrible, but it was just way too free and loose with how technology works and seemed lazy. Also, they had to jam a love story in there, which slows down the movie quite a bit.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) For starters, Price is a much better pitcher. Obviously. Which is why the cost to acquire and the cost to sign are both higher than that of Samardzija. That would make the Cubs buyers this July, not sellers. That doesn't seem like a wise plan, considering Price will be gone or very expensive by the time the team even starts to think about playoff appearances.

Nope. Streak over, unless the bullpen goes all 2014 bullpen on us. -

Horrendous AB, Adam. Up to you Gordon, let Abreu push that streak along.... -

What a giant break here. -
I don't get the point of trading away Samardzija if they plan to acquire Price. The cost for Price should be higher than the return was for Samardzija, and both guys are about the same age, and both have 1 1/2 years left until FA. And if they get to FA, Price will command more money. I just don't see the point.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) But which was used in reference to the 5M per point? All I know is the dude has been damn good this year sans 3 or 4 starts. 13 quality starts is a bit to much for me to say he's just been lucky all year. fWAR values a win at nearly $6M this year I believe. It goes up every year as payrolls and contracts rise.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 10:23 AM) For Danka, I would want back Gary Sanchez and maybe three of the INTL guys that they just signed, specifically Juan De Leon, Jonathan Amundary and Dermis Garcia and cash considerations. That would be a gigantic haul. No way that happens. If Danks gets moved, it may be similar to what we got back for Javy Vasquez

I've noticed that no one is mentioning anywhere that I've seen that Addison Russell has suffered 2 desperate hamstring injuries this season, the latest one being a complete tear. He has only played 18 games this season as a result. I feel like that makes him a risk that Beane was willing to take by trading him.
-
I don't think anything derailed his career more than his ankle injury. He was looking special that spring training.
-
I've never been in favor of trading Viciedo, but if we can get a couple decent prospects back, I'll take it. Do not like Maurer though, just based off the numbers.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) He could also file a grievance with the PA about being benched for no daggum reason. And the Sox would also lose out on the assumed well-attended Chris Sale starts, especially K-Zone seats.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 03:43 PM) So you hit HR's and shag flyballs for the White Sox? I never said saying "we" was a problem in either scenario, just pointing out that it happens in both occasions. Feel free to drop the attitude. -
Completely premature question, but being that I am unfamiliar with the DSL league, do players ever get promoted out of those leagues midseason to like a Great Falls or a AZL? Or do they stay there all year long no matter what and then look for advancement the following summer?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) Worth noting that Chris Sale is 14th in the AL in fWAR among pitchers, tied with Anibal Sanchez (who also has missed some time). He's also slightly ahead of Mark Buehrle, who seems like a likely candidate anyway. I'm hard pressed, looking at this list, to say that he's one of the most deserving 6-7 starters in the AL for the All Star team this year. Rosenthal selected 9 starters, and my only argument was that he is CLEARLY better than Richards. Richards is just very good at avoiding the longball this year.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) Probably because they actually are the "we." You're not a White Sox but you are an American. Truly an abortion of a comparison. I don't make decisions that affect the country. I am not in that group. In fact, I've yet to ever invade a country, to the best of my sober knowledge. That comparison just got a C-section. -
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 03:17 PM) yea i was reading about how there is a lot of deserving pitchers and how sale probably wont go because he has 30-40 less innings i think. that would suck since hes clearly a top starter in the league. hopefully he goes That's like saying Abreu hasn't been one of the best hitters in the AL this year because he has 50-70 fewer PAs than a lot of other players. Who the hell cares? He has still mashed enough to make up for it. I get that offensive numbers are additive, and pitching numbers are rates, but I don't think anyone would honestly think Sale's 30 IP less this year are giving him flukey good rates.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 02:55 PM) They'll be announced July 18 or 19 at the Convention. July 18th, and Chicago can get the Toews, Kane, and Rodon signings all in one afternoon. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) I concur. Yeah, I don't have a problem with it either. People say "We" in talking about what the US Government or military should do all the time too. -
Ken Rosenthal released his picks for the all-star game, if he were to pick every player, starters and reserves. Not only did he leave Alexei off his list, which I didn't get too upset about because Alexei is a borderline guy, IMO, but he left Chris Sale off his list too. One of the guys he DID include was Garrett Richards instead. I argued that this was asinine, and there is no reason the AL would be better served to win the game with Garrett Richards pitching versus Chris Sale. Rosenthal's only reason was because Sale had a DL stint this year. He is only 8 innings short of qualifying for the leaderboards right now, in which his AL ranks would put him 1st in WHIP, 1st in oppAVG, 3rd in ERA, 4th in LD%, 5th in K/BB, 7th in K/9, 8th in BB/9, and top 10 in various other parameters. And yet he doesn't get recognized as one of the top 9 pitchers in the AL this year. But thank god Derek Jeter gets a roster spot.
