QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 07:29 PM) There was a lot of buzz on Silverio a couple years ago, but he was signed during the signing bonus scandal period so after he struggled in the Appy League people assumed he was another over hyped foreign signee. People seem to be taking the wait and see approach. I'm sure many will get back on the bandwagon this year if he does well in rookie ball. I believe the age rumors were wrong, but there were rumors that he had to play in the DSL because he had visa issues. It's been a weird series of events around this kid, that's for sure. What happened last year? Was he injured or something? http://thebaseballcube.com/players/S/Juan-Silverio.shtml They don't list any 2009 stats for him, and this site has stats for EVERY player who has ever played at any level including college. -

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) Surprised not seeing Juan Silverio's name there. the guy's only 18 about to turn 19, plays at a premium position, base on his performance in DSL last year, he had made some strides in hitting for contact, base on the age, age, and the position alone he should be a top 30. I think Silverio is kind of under the radar in everyone's list, and I can't really find much scouting reports on him. Anyone has any read on this guy? and if i am not mistaken (didn't know he was invited to ST, and his stats wasn't listed on whitesox.com), he actually played as a DH in last saturday's game vs the Cubs going 0-3 with 1 k. Considering that he has never played above the Appy League, the Sox must have high hopes for him to send him to ST? Maybe I am mistaken and am thinking of a different person, but I thought they found out Silverio has actually older than he claimed, and was really like 21 years old. -
QUOTE (Soxy @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) When Rue McClanahan was recently hospitalized Betty White sent her a card that said something to the effect of "Hurry up and die so I can be the only Golden Girl left." That's awesome.

Awesome! Betty White is amazing.

QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) I've been struggling with hitting so this past Saturday I did some research and found a technique that seems to be working for me........ First, I guess low, fastball on every pitch. Typcially, if I guessed wrong on the pitch, then it will be some sort of off speed pitch which I'll be ready for. Second, if I guess wrong on the locatoion, there is a good chance it's going to be up in the zone. Whatever the current count is helps to determine if that pitch will be up or out of the zone...like a 0-2 count, you can pretty much count on it being out of the zone. As I've done this, I've become much more comfortable with hitting, and successful as well. At first, I would refrain from swinging on any pitches unless I guess right, but now I'm swinging more based the pitch history, etc. Another thing that might help is to turn on the plate coverage indicator, this will help you without a doubt. This game is very rewarding when you start ripping singles up the middle or doubles down the line, it's where you really start to feel the authenticity of the gameplay. That is exactly what I have been doing too.

Jared Mitchell is playing like a #1 prospect
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 02:31 AM) Thats dumb and no reason to answer it. I am just wondering how much people value a proven young star (Beckham) vs. 2-3 guys who look like they could contribute as above average players, but have not yet. -

ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Completely hypothetical question here, but what if the Padres said this..... You can have A-Gon, as long as you give us.... Beckham + lower lvl prospect (Back end of our top 10 prospects) or Mitchell, Danks, Flowers, and Hudson You had to pick one deal, you could not just say "No", what deal would you do? -
My game just suffered a stroke. I heard a weird noise come from my system, and then on my next pitch, the game sped up 3 times as fast. The pitching meter came around in half a second, and the gameplay spiked big time. On the throw back to my pitcher, the game slowed down, and the animation was way off. My pitcher caught a ball that was thrown 4 feet to the right. Then on my next pitch is was fine, and then the 3rd pitch was once again sped up. I decided to just sim to the end of then game, and turned my system off. I hope my game has not been scratched, or my system going haywire. I would say now is a good time to call it quits for the night.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 01:41 AM) Future bust. Yeah, my ERA should be like mid 3's really, but I get so many double plays it's amazing. I have challenged the record for most DPs in a game (8), by rolling up 6 of them. As I type this, I just got a double play ball. Not sure if they track that stat in this game, but I would venture to guess I have at least 30-40 double plays turned. EDIT: Add another. I have 4 DPs this game, and I am only through 6 IP.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 01:23 AM) This is easily the hardest part of the game, and why I haven't played my 2B/RF for the Angels in a while instead of my pitcher. I K like I'm on a mission to beat Ryan Howard. If I could get some recognition, just about all my hits are doubles are HR's...all like, 12 of them Eh erm...I think you mean Mark Reynolds, he obliterated Howard's record (which he already beat in 2008), by striking out 223 times, a full 24 more times than Howard ever did. Anyway... My pitcher is just smashing AA right now. Just finished my 3 CG of the season. 9 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 11 K's. Season stats: 9-2, 2.19 ERA, 103 IP, 102 H, 2 HR, 6 BB, 67 K, 1.05 WHIP, and of my 9 wins, 7 were on the road. I am hoping to get the call to AAA soon.....

Viciedo loafing draws the attention of KW

My dad was watching me play The Show. He asked is he could bat for me, I asked why, he said "I don't think I could do any worse". First pitch he saw, he singled up the middle. FML.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) Doesn't make much sense to trade him right after his injury-plagued 2009. Unless they don't think he will recover. And if I remember correctly, Texas has a pretty damn good farm system. Maybe they have the OF pieces to replace him.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) Solid numbers. As for my guy, I chose to keep him as realistic as possible to myself, so I started off 4-seam, circle change, and 12-6 curveball. Then I added a splitfinger. The change is definitely my strike out pitch. I have a ton of success with it. The curveball is a tough pitch to develop though, but I'm seeing improvement slowly. Working the count is the key, as is getting ahead in the count though, obviously. The things thats kind of annoying me as I go further though is the inability to avoid the big inning. And the fielders behind me piss me off. There seems to be way too many doubles down the line and under the 3B glove, and too often to hits in the OF get past the defender and go to the wall for a 3B. Other than that, no real complaints so far. The Baron's defense has been awesome behind me, but yes, a TON of the hits I give up are doubles down the line past the diving 3B. I guess it could make sense that RH are pulling everything because my fastball only tops at 91, and my cutter is like 84, changeup at 82.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) I'm playing through my season, but I'm a pitcher, so it's different. I started off with the Bowie Bay Sox (BAL) as a long reliever, then got a couple spot starts and moved into the rotation before they put me back in the pen as a MR. I then got traded as part of a deal for Lance Berkman and now I'm a long reliever for the Corpus Christi Hooks, still trying to get into the rotation. We're about 3/4 into the season and in 30 games, I'm 5-0 with a 3.44 ERA. 122 H, 82 K, 18 BB in 104.2 IP with a 1.34 WHIP. Yeah, I think starting pitcher is very fun and seasons go quick. Games only take about 15 minutes to play, and you only pitch once every 5 games, so it's not bad at all to go through a whole month of the season in 1 sitting. I am currently in June, and if I remember correctly, my stats are along the lines of.... 8-2 record, 2.28 ERA, 94 H, 93 IP, 3 BB, 63 Ks, 1.01 WHIP. That's just a guess since my system is not on, but it's close to those numbers. EDIT: Oh yeah, and if you are wondering how I am doing so well I have this advice. LEARN A CUTTER! You may already have it, but this cutter is amazing. I have been a big fan of it since my RTTS pitcher in 09. I get 90% of my strikeouts and whiffs on the cutter. As a RHP, I throw it on the lower left corner every time. This would mean IN on the lefties, and AWAY on the righties. They swing and miss like it's their job. The only reason I don't have more K's is because I sometimes have a hard time getting to 2 strikes on the batter because my fastball and circle-change are not that great yet.

QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) Just realized we have a seperate thread for the game so I'll ask again....... For those who have both 09 and 10, is 10 worth the uprgarde?? My primary concerns are the graphics and gameplay, are these much of an upgrade from 09? Not really into franchise mode, and all that. Graphics are basically the same, or at least not enough to notice without playing the game side by side. Gameplay is virtually the same too. However, having Home Run Derby (most fun I have had) RTTS pitching and fielding training, online leagues, + all the little nuances (umps gather together and have video review for Fair/Foul HR calls, catchers taking masks off to field, pitchers actually being struck by line drives, fielders helping eachother out of hard plays, ect).

Key to White Sox Offense - Feeling Good.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) I kinda think Mitchell is more likely to make it to the majors than Danks. I honestly haven't really been much impressed by Jordan Danks other than the fact he's John's brother. I def. agree that Mitchell will probably have a better career in them majors, but I bet there is no doubt Danks gets a chance before Mitchell does. That is unless Mitchell GordonBeckham's (it's a verb) AA and AAA in a very short time frame. -

I really would not be surprised at all if Kenny plans on just moving Quentin to DH after this season, and having an OF of Pierre-Rios-Danks. And if Danks is not ready by then, then he can resign Andruw and have him in the OF, or if Andruw has a bad season at the plate, just go and get a stop-gap OF for 1 year. All in all, I see Quentin being our DH of the future. I think keeping your star slugger off his bad foot is a good idea, especially since he is not really adding anything to the team defensively. He is not a liability, but he is also not making any diving plays, or chasing down balls in the gap. -
I have a SP in RTTS. Amazingly, I was drafted by the White Sox. What are the odds!?!?! (1:30) Anyway, about a month into my career (doing very well, btw), the Sox traded Floyd, Pena, and Vizquel to the Blue Jays for J. Accardo, B. Lucy, and O. Oquendo. The only one I know of is Accardo, and that's not even close to an even trade. The reason, I'm assuming, is because the of Player Potential glitch. I didn't care to wait until the fix comes out tomorrow, since it's only RTTS, but that's an awfully s***ty trade! EDIT: The Sox just made up for that trade by trading Putz to the Red Sox for Lester. Wow.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) I have not... When roster update comes out on Monday, they are addressing the problem. I suggest no one start their franchise until tomorrow when the roster update is available.
