  1. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 01:00 PM) They are currently in the race. 4 games is nothing. If they go 6-4 and Cleveland and Detroit both go 5-5 in their next ten, the Sox are still in the race and only three games out, and it's a totally believable result given the track record of all three teams. Cleveland and Detroit split their 4 games, Sox win 2/3 against Cle, Cle wins 2/3 against Min. Det splits the Min and @Bal series 3-3. Sox win today, win 2/3 vs KC and lose 2/3 vs. Tex. 6-4 for the Sox, 5-5 for Det and Cle. Sox still in the race. Yeah, the games back column says one thing, but I don't think you're in it unless you're over .500. Until they get there, it really means nothing.
  2. The Sox have to go 8-2 the next ten. Win tonight, and come home and go 7-2 like a championship team does at home. If the Sox do that, then they've earned their way back into the race.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 09:12 PM) Will the Sox miss Masterson next week? Depends. The rain delay shortened his start, so they could move him up before Sunday. If he starts Sunday, then yes, the Sox will miss him.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 07:43 PM) 0. # of Royals playoff appearances in the past 25 years They have to start somewhere. Look at what the Rays were able to do in the AL East. I'm not guaranteeing the Royals will start making the playoffs in the next couple years, but would it surprise me? Hell no.
  5. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 12:22 PM) A win tonight and I really think we'll have something on our hands here. My thing was-- get over .500 and within 3 games of Detroit. So sweep the O's, and the Tigers lose one more in Cleveland, and it'll be "game on" for the final 45 games. I have to admit, the power surge the last 5 games has been nice to see. This team has actually been watchable.

  9. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 10:14 AM) Bear in mind that technically speaking, Cleveland controls its own destiny to a far greater extent than the Sox, so Det will have to pick its poison. If I'm Leyland, I just ride the 5-man out and not get too cute with the using Verlander. If he does that, Verlander sets up this way: 8-11 at Cle 8-16 vs Min 8-22 at TB 8-27 at Min 9-1 vs KC 9-6 at Cle 9-12 at Chi 9-17 at Oak 9-23 vs Bal 9-28 vs Cle (if needed, last day of season)
  10. This four game winning streak has been fun, but when I look at the Tigers remaining schedule, I realize the Sox won't catch them unless they get ungodly hot. The Tigers have this left: Cleveland - 12 Minnesota - 9 Baltimore - 7 Chicago - 6 Kansas City - 6 Tampa Bay - 4 Oakland - 4 And let's be clear, no matter how close the Sox get in the end, if they come up short, Kenny and Ozzie both have to go.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 08:57 PM) Hudson down 5-0 in the 1st, but that's understandable against the potent Astros offense. They do have Hunter Pence & Michael Bourn. He had first inning troubles even in the minors. 3 of those 5 runs are unearned too. He may lose tonight, but it wouldn't surprise me if he shut them down for 5-6 innings now.
  12. QUOTE (T R U @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) What the hell? You assholes need to make it quicker with the game threads.. I checked the site earlier and there was no gamethread for today so I thought we had the off day and missed the game.. sons of b****es Really? That's how you know if they have a game or not?
  13. Tuesday: Fister vs Masterson Wednesday: Porcello vs Jimenez Thursday: Verlander vs Carmona Go Tribe!
  14. Why must they tease us? WHY!! Well, we'll see what happens. If the Sox win tomorrow, they'll either move into 2nd place, or be 4 out. I'll take 4 out and stay in 3rd place.
  15. Kuhn 1-1, hitting over .300 at AAA, and .353 for the season. Rain delay

  17. The cream has really risen to the top in the NL. Only six teams over .500 out of 16, and that's with a pretty close interleague this season. 8 out of 14 AL teams are over .500, but the Rays and Jays have no chance of making the playoffs. The Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies are locks for postseason, so right now only 9 teams are going for 5 spots. 18 teams are kind of out of it with about 50 games left.
  18. I'm happy about the sweep, but there's no reason to get excited about being 3 under .500 after 113 games, with a losing record at home and the division. Get over .500 and under 5 games out, and we'll talk...
  19. Kid's gotta point... http://twitter.com/#!/OzneyGuillen/sta...316094375526400 Actually 34 out of 44, but who's counting...
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) Beckham is at .171 against LHP now Wow, that just blew my mind. /walkered
  21. Just checked the Twins schedule this week. Three more home vs Boston, and then they go to Cleveland next weekend. It would have been cool if Thome hit 600 in Cleveland if their fans didn't suck so much. Classless trash in that city.
  22. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb Teheran was wild. Viciedo walked, but his average is below .300 now. See you in September. Kuhn's got respectable numbers at AAA now.
  23. It's ridiculous Hawk is basically giving up-to-the-minute updates on the Tigers. When the Sox get over .500 and within 5 games, maybe then you give more updates. Right now, it's more Hawk stupidity.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 11:55 AM) Pierre isn't the guy you sit. He's not hurting this team. Not really the point. They have to find out what De Aza can do against lefty pitching. Unless they just don't think he's in the plans for 2012 at all, which could be the case.
