  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) So, all of his stats besides one extra base hit show that Kemp has been the superior player, who is on the cusp of accomplishing something that hasn't been done in most of our lifetimes. But Braun's team is in the playoffs and that's it. Braun wins? Um, yeah. Didn't I make that clear? Again, I wouldn't complain if Kemp won. But I think Braun deserves it based on being very cose to Kemp while playing for a playoff team.
  2. Just a comparison-- xbh- Braun 73 Kemp 72 RBIs- Braun 107 Kemp 119 Runs- Braun 105 Kemp 110 OPS- Braun .979 Kemp .987 I just don't think Braun is far enough off from Kemp to keep him from the MVP, playing in more stressful games for a playoff team.
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) It hasn't been done in 44 years. If he does it, he gets the MVP. I wouldn't complain if Kemp got it, but I think Braun deserves it based on other factors outside of three statistical categories.
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 11:56 AM) LOL, so you're the "team award MVP" guy My stance on the MVP is if a player is far and away the best offensive player, I would vote for him for MVP no matter what the team did. In the case of Braun, he not only is a money player for a playoff team, he's not far off enough from Kemp to keep him from being the MVP....regardless if Kemp finishes first in all of those three categories.
  5. Thru Friday: Batting Average: Reyes .329 Braun .329 Kemp .326 Home Runs: Kemp 37 Pujols 37 Uggla 35 Runs Batted In: Kemp 119 Howard 113 Fielder 113
  6. Brewers Clinch D-backs Clinch Rangers Clinch Not much left... AL Wild Card- Red Sox 2.5 game lead on TB. Magic Number 4. AL 2-Seed- Tigers and Rangers tied. Tigers hold the tie breaker NL Wild Card- Braves 3 game lead on Stl. Magic Number 3. NL 2-Seed- Brewers 1-game lead on D-Backs. Magic Number 5. D-backs hold the tie breaker.
  7. Oh...and Braves won and Cardinals lost, so the Braves magic number is 3. Looks like the Braves and Red Sox will dodge the close calls.
  8. Brewers clinch the NL Central. Rangers won and can clinch with an Angels loss.... A's lead Angels 1-0, 5th Diamondbacks can clinch with a win over the Giants... Giants lead 1-0, 7th
  9. Even if Kemp won the triple crown, I'd still vote for Braun for MVP.
  10. Soriano homer. 4-1 Cubs. Brewers will clinch tonight.
  11. Braun 3-run homer. 4-1 Brewers. 3 more outs and then they watch the Cubs/Cards in the clubhouse.
  12. Chen in 5 starts this year against the Sox... 3-1, 1.89 ERA in 33.1 innings
  13. Stewart's starting numbers with the Sox... 8 starts...2-5, 6.41 ERA Including a shutout. The other 7 starts, his ERA was 7.96. Not good.
  14. Rays lose. Red Sox magic number is 4. If I'm the Tigers and Rangers, I'm going all out for the 2-seed.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) And if the Tigers could finish it off in 4, Verlander gets the extra rest. And games 3-4 are likely to be home games right, so Verlander gets to work twice in the opponent's house. The Tigers and Rangers are tied right now for the 2-seed, but the Tigers have the tie-breaker winning the season series. Remaining series: Tigers- vs Bal, vs Cle Rangers- vs Sea, at LAA Tigers magic number is 6.
  16. QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) Wow. Just heard on PTI that Leyland said Verlander will start Games One and FIVE, but not Four on short rest. No matter what. WOW. Not sure why that's surprising. I like that he's getting ahead of it before the speculation starts when the series already starts. Good move by Leyland.
  17. Batting Average: Braun .330 Reyes .329 Kemp .326 Home Runs: Pujols 37 Kemp 36 Uggla 35 Runs Batted In: Kemp 118 Howard 113 Fielder 112
  18. Sometimes it's better just to be bad. It's easier to take.
  19. Willie Harris single and error. 2 runs score. 8-6 Mets. I'm not a Cardinals fan, but damn....
  20. Double 6-6, bases loaded, still one out. Ouch
  21. Cardinals trying to blow a 6-1 lead going into the 8th. Now 6-4, 1 out, bases loaded in the 9th for the Mets.
  22. Cardinals off to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. Could be one back with 6 left, and a cake schedule.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) After 277 career games, Juan Pierre had 343 hits Pierre was also 25 at the time.
  24. Remember when some of us thought Beckham may be a great talent? Gordon Beckham 377 games - 324 hits Starlin Castro 277 games - 338 hits 100 games less and 3 years younger. That's something.
  25. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Come on, greg, I dislike the Yankees/BoSox love as much as the next guy, but the scheduling of a lot of divisional games is not part of some vast conspracy. It may not be part of a conspiracy, but it may be part of the equation. They probably do it to build rivalries--which I don't believe in for a minute. They may also do it for travel considerations--hours on planes for the coastal teams, and expenses. To me, the bigger problem is that they don't schedule road trips that make any sense. there should be more 3-city trips that are more regional. If I had it my way, they would get rid of divisions, go back to a balanced schedule and the top-3 teams in the league would make the playoffs. 4 and 5 would play a best-of-3 to get in. Just adding a wildcard with divisions still in play is going to be a train wreck.
