QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) Not that it would ever happen, but Fisk has no business managing. He would be awful. Most of managing is dealing with players on a personal level and dealing with the media. He would suck at both. I was really anti-La Russa, and still am sorta. But if I knew it was going to be a year or two just to get the Kenny/Ozzie taste out of our collective mouths, I'd take it. Dave Martinez intrigues me. He's been there with Maddon for a while, and I think that can only help him. Bob Brenly and Sandy Alomar are high on my list as well. I'd also like to hear what some of the Knight Sox have to say about Joe McEwing.

And that, my friends, is a White Sox season

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) I will no longer watch games in which Mark Buehrle doesn't pitch. This could be Mark's last month. So I will cherish his starts. Besides that, I will only track Viciedo, De Aza and Flowers. Aw come on now....you mean you don't want to watch three White Sox games in 27 hours starting tomorrow night? I mean, who would pass up seeing Zach Stewart and Philip Humber pitch on the same day? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 07:06 PM) That would be a dumb thing to do. If you're out of contention, then pitch the daylights out of him and Humber, try to build up their arms as much as you can. Did you not hear Peavy the other day? He can't wait for the offseason, and his arm is dead. Get him out of here. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) ? This was his fault? They were shutting him down if they fell out of contention. That was my way of saying it's that time. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 07:02 PM) I can't imagine how mad I'd be if we were like 2 or 3 games out True. I haven't been excited about a Sox game one way or the other since early April. -

Send Peavy home tonight. -
That 2010 draft looks pretty good now with Sale and Reed on the Sox, plus Saladino, Wilkins, Petricka, Blanke, and Ravelo doing some good things.

9/2 - Sox @ DET; Danks vs. Ver-Zeus-Der
flavum replied to witesoxfan's topic in 2011 Season in Review
I'm kinda juiced for this game. If Danks outduels Verlander, maybe the sphincter gets tight on the Tigers the rest of the weekend and the Sox are 2.5 out going into the doubleheader Monday. Of course it's not probable, but at least they're still playing for something right now. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 01:16 PM) no hector? bummer I think he'll be up when Birmingham's season ends. On a separate note, they could probably 60-day DL Pena and Castro, if they want to add players who aren't currently on the 40-man. Milledge maybe?

Listening to this...I'm embarrassed for both of them.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) scottmerkin Scott Merkin As reference, Tigers 7 up on Twins in 2009 on Sept. 6. Didn't make playoffs ~ They went 11-15 after Sep. 6, which would be the same this year...86-76 Sox would have to go 18-10 to tie. Good luck with that.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) Yeah, I'm all for firing him now. But I won't pull that "THEY WON '05 IN SPITE OF OZZIE" bulls***. I agree. I think it's quite possible he's not as good at his job now as he was back then.
-
Bernstein just played 5 minutes of Peavy after the game. --blamed the live park, guys hitting the ball to left field. Not that he was hit hard. --blames himself for the relief appearance. probably set him back because his arm is dead. --can't wait for the winter, so he can have a regular offseason This guy should be shut down TO-DAY. Enough. Just get Humber and Santiago up here, and finish off the season without this guy.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) I get tired of these posts where fans for some inexplicable reason don't want good players like Quentin on their team any more. How bout an outfield of Tank, DeAza and CQ next year. That would not be bad. I know Dayan is good but why do people always tire of guys on the current roster? It again is the backup quarterback syndrome. Rios is the dog that should go away; CQ should stay! While I'll give props for his production, I tend to not like grumpy players. I'm not saying he's bad in the clubhouse since I'm not there. But i find it hard to believe he's helping the situation when it comes to team chemistry. And yeah, Rios has three years left on his contract.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) They talked about the Sox on PTI just now, and Wilbon honestly thinks the Sox will win the divison, and he also gave a shoutout to all the young players who are performing, and started to talk about Viciedo, but it went to commercial and he got cut off. Like his opinion on anything matters.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) I think the biggest myth bought by managers and players is "there's plenty of baseball left". We'll never know, but I'd like to know what the Sox record would be right now if Ozzie let Buehrle finish the shutout on April 11th vs Oakland. Thornton comes in again after being bad, and then Pierre drops the ball on the warning track. Sox hitting goes into a tailspin, and they go 5-18 the next 23.
-
The sad thing is, the Sox had a respectable 16-12 August after starting 0-4. That 11-22 start just won't go away.

4 weeks, this season is ovah!

QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) I wish we had included Thompson from Kanny. Maybe next year. AFL is for borderline guys that you're deciding whether to expose to the Rule 5, or add to the 40-man. Or guys that may be playing in AA or AAA the following year. Thompson could be in that category next year, and then play at Birmingham in 2013.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) The only reason I care is perhaps Rios will be benched in favor of Carlos. Yeah, that makes sense. Pierre--De Aza- Viciedo Q at DH? That would work, assuming Konerko can play 1B.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 10:24 AM) What's the deal with Quentin? When is he due back? I can't explain it because he made the all-star game, and he's been a road warrior...but I really don't care if I ever see Q in a Sox uniform again. Viciedo is the future, and I'm happy to see him playing.
-
Anyone else think the whole waiver process is stupid? They should just set one trade deadline, and be done with it. Me personally, I think the only trade deadline should be six weeks before the end of the season...mid August. Especially if they expand the playoffs and more teams are in contention longer.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:51 PM) What people haven't realized is Detroit has had trouble playing .500 in the division. 33-20 is having trouble?
-
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:49 PM) is this the first time we've been 3 above .500 all year? i don't remember 6-3 and 7-4
-
.500 against the division...woo... Cle 7-3 Det 5-7 KC 5-6 Min 6-7 Do this the rest... Cle 6-2 Det 4-2 KC 5-2 Min 3-2 Tor 2-1 20-9, I'll give them a fighting chance. Tigers would have to go 14-13 to tie. Damn, running out of games.
