  1. I hope it's Rangers/Brewers so one of them win their first championship. Tigers/Cardinals ---I've seen it. Don't neeed it again.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) If this team struggles, especially with some of the egos already on the roster and in the front office, it's hard to see him lasting 3 years. When the Bulls contracted their bad case of VDN, it only lasted for 2, and even then everyone knew it was done after 1.5. I think the situations are very different. If Robin got a 4-year deal, he'll be given four years, or at the very least 3 years. If Robin leaves before then, it will be because he doesn't like managing. And it wouldn't shock me at all if that happens a year or two from now.
  3. The hiring is wrong, but it remains to be seen if Ventura can manage. Let's face it, if the other 29 teams had a managerial opening, most wouldn't interview him now, and none would hire him. He paid no dues in the minors or the major league bench. My feeling is that the team will sink or swim with Dunn, Rios, and Beckham next season. Buehrle is gone, and they'll hang on to Danks for a half season until they fall out of it. So basically Ventura will grow into the job over the next couple years while the team struggles concurrently, and we'll know if he can manage a contending team in 2014.

  5. Not going to dig through the thread, so I apologize if this has been mentioned... Kenny was on CTL and said the hitting coach will probably be filled within the organization. So probably Tim Laker. Not a fan of the Sox hiring roiders, but he was a product of the era.
  6. OH! There's a game tonight! Go Tigers.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 06:10 PM) Because of a conference call??? Hilarious. Robin is going to be a much better leader than many of you think. And you know this how? The bottom line is that nobody knows if he'll be a good manager, including Ventura. We have to give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but there's no argument that better candidates existed based on their experience.
  8. Underwhelming press conference. We'll see. Two years of sucking and high draft picks wouldn't be the worst thing for this organization if they're willing to put the cash in the farm system.
  9. Frank has not been talked to.
  10. I hope Robin can get through to Beckham about the mental side of the game. They need to give Beckham one more year, and having a manager that has gone through a similar experience may pay off for Gordon.
  11. The Score will carry the conference call live at 5. Very cool.
  12. Wonder what Ryne Sandberg and Joe McEwing think about this?
  13. I hate the national view of Ventura is that he's the guy that got the noogies from Nolan Ryan. Uh, he had a pretty good career.
  14. If this isn't an indication they're going young, I don't know what is. I no longer think Buehrle will pitch for the Sox again.
  15. Starting to process this....on the surface, this move sucks. 5pm conference call. Doubt it will be carried live.
  16. This is like something a fan would think up. I'll reserve judgement, but I'm shocked by this.
  17. No sweeps in the Division Series this year. First time since 2003. 2004-2010: 28 series. 14 sweeps.
  18. I don't think there's any doubt Martinez is the first choice, and Alomar is the backup plan.
  19. Fun game. Holy s***, CC is huge.
  20. It's safe to say the outcome of today's game could impact when the Sox have a new manager.
  21. Stat of the Day: The last seven years, the winner of Game 1 of a Division Series has won the series 25 out of 28 times. I wish they had time to expand all rounds to best-of-7, but that's just me.
  22. Hudson vs Marcum, Sunday at 3:37, Miller Park
  23. I have no idea how to handicap all of this. All I know is there needed to be a managerial change, and they made it. Sandy Alomar would be fine.
  24. Tigers over Yankees in 4 Rangers over Rays in 4 Phillies over Cardinals in 3 Brewers over D-backs in 3 Tigers over Rangers in 6 Phillies over Brewers in 6 Phillies over Tigers in 5
  25. Final 27 games: Rays 17-10 Red Sox 7-20 Cardinals 18-9 Braves 9-18 That's one for the ages.
