Why are the sox so unlucky with veteran additions?
GREEDY replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They rarely want to give the extra year. Any player with an up arrow next to their name gets a year or two more than anyone would be comfortable with. -
Spot on. One of the two announcers treated that situation like he hadn't just been over the top honored by the club yesterday. The other didn't. The Sox need to hire the Rams' "Get Back Coach" who jumps into action and yanks Tony into the clubhouse whenever he is about to go full moron.

Yep, the org decided we need to swing more... just as mlb was deadening the ball. How many bad calls does this front office get to make?
-
What you want and what would be good for the team are two different things, especially when speaking in absolutes like you are.
-
Would make alot of cents

The Reinsdorfs will definitely sell to a group. Very little chance we ever get the rogue billionaire who treats the team as his toy and pushes the limits on spend. I'll take a wild stab and say Peak6 is the main investor. They are Chicago based and have invested in sports franchises in the past. I could see Obama on the board. And to those considering a Bears, Sox, Hawks, Bulls complex in Arlington Heights.... that would really be something. Different, but likely good different. I know there is a contingent that loves our local spots for pre and post game, but unfortunately I think you are a very small minority. The vast majority of fans are Interstate>Parking Lot >Ballpark > Interstate. The new project would likely have very little soul but I think would be a huge hit with the average fan and corporate type, which ultimately would be good for the club.

He has always been a guess hitter. Taking all the way very often. It is almost like sometimes he had the answers to the test, and now he definitely doesn't.

They could move Lynn. Fresh top of the rotation arm for the second half. The 18.5 he is owed for '23 is obviously more than the 10 million we were on the hook for but the price on veteran starters has risen quite a bit. And as much as most like Lynn, if you still want to buy a veteran for '23, the 18.5 million back on the books should allow for someone relatively similar.

Had an epiphany that Yaz's offensive numbers kinda look like someone who knew what was coming... and now he suddenly doesn't. Wonder if opponents finally just put him on random and he is still trying to be a guess hitter, or if he lost an edge?

Not surprising that teams that aren't swinging at the dead ball during the cold weather months were having success. If it is cold enough for Leury to wear a facemask he'd be better off not even bringing at bat to the plate.

The top of the 4th when the Sox fell below 2.5% to win the game.
-
You are right on. I can't believe the new format wasn't discussed much more here, it greatly neutralized the advantage of playing in the the weak AL Central. Sox need to take advantage of the final year of the unbalanced schedule to get a top 2 seed.

Nightengale sure was right... the Sox were seeking a 2B like Marcus Semien.

Flying in for a couple games, need info

Tourists are definitely taking ubers to the ballpark. No one is taking our cesspool transport that doesn't have to. -
Of course not..... unless he really, really thought about it ?

The downside is sneaky covered because Amazon needs more vans than RIVN could dream of making over the next decade, and likely could pay whatever RIVN wants, especially since they own at least 1/5th of the company. While I think the founder and company would love to make granola friendly pickups and suvs, or at least make enough to keep up that vibe to attract talent, the cash cow is in making delivery vans for companies (or the gov) that will try to go carbon neutral. Despite the valuation being already bananas it has all of the upside and has some downside protection that is rare to find in names like this.

TLR is the ultimate fall-guy for the front office. What a dream scenario for Hahn if your only goal is survival.

Carlos Rodon... What could the Sox gotten in trade?
GREEDY replied to DanofDuPage's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This sounds like something a loud talker would be saying during a weeknight game to his wife while chomping on his third churro. -
I picked the deal he was talking about... not some random deal. And they got one extra year of control of Eloy at like 19 million. Not the discount Tim took or multiple years.
-
You know the Sox had control of Eloy for all of these years except for 2026 right? Just eyeballing it but I bet he would have been much less than 7.3 had Hahn just let the pre-arb system play out. Not saying the deal can't still work out in the Sox' favor, but to date, it definitely has not.
-
Feels like the best regular season team wins 1 out of 3 and no one is surprised. Feels like the hottest team going into the playoffs wins 1 out of 3 and no one is surprised. Then the final third is just a random playoff team that isn't the obvious pick for a variety of reasons wins. I have used zero actual statistical analysis to come to conclusion.
-
Everyone celebrated Hahn giving guys 100% of their likely arb numbers in exchange for one more year of prime control at a somewhat reasonable number. Hahn isn't some wizard at pulling these deals off, there is a reason they aren't the standard. What Hahn really did was get a discount on one prime year because his future was already tied to these players anyways. If Moncada, Robert and Eloy fail, Hahn won't be around to have to worry about it.

It has been this many days ( 0 ) since Pito has made a lazy mistake.
-
And it was the next man up. They literally just kept the guy who was covering for him while he was out.
