JAKE FOX/JIM THOME COMPARISON AVG .259/.249 AB 216/345 Plate appearances 241/417 SO 45/116 BB 14/69 HR 11/23 RBI 44/74 R 23/55 SLG .468/.493 OPS .774/.864 2B 12/15 Very similar numbers, even if you doubled Fox's numbers (and almost matched plate apperances) Thome would still have better numbers... but Thome batted cleanup all season and I believe Fox batted 6th-8th in lineup..

i think fox has potential for 40+ HR and 100+ RBI at DH... I'd trade for him in a heartbeat. He's also cheap for a few more years I think... imagine a healthy raking CQ/Jake Fox batting 3/4; I think it has potential.

Jones is only 32... he was a great player a few years ago and can still hit for power/play good defense. He still is talented, just needs to get in shape and get his head in the game. I would take him over Dewayne Wise anyday... and u never know, Jones might be determined to bust his ass and get one more big payday. I think its a excellent signing.

I think we would have a solid bench, a team the fans would like, very competitive, overall good team. Bullpen would be the only thing that may need work though. coco/pods are about the same type of player; over 30, can't steal more than 30 base without getting caught 15+, no power, aweful arms. I'd rather bring back Pods or SPEND SOME MONEY and get somebody GOOD.

Official: Omar Vizquel Signs with Sox
YonderLaroche replied to AWhiteSoxinNJ's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Omar is past his prime for sure (like the alomars, griffey jr when kenny acquired them) but I think it's a good move. The Sox needed a utility infielder that could play some good defense (Nix can't, didn't he make 10 errors in a month last year??)... -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 09:39 PM) Just look at the lack of professionalism he showed in his email replies. I don't think he cares... he rips on sox players all the time.

Seems like this deal isn't serious or was just a thought/proposal that went no where fast... nobody else is even reporting about.. Cowley is a d-bag but probably right.

QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) ^^^^ sign andruw jones 2yr, 4 million; sign Xavier Nady 3 year, 24 million That's insane for Nady. 1 year 2 million will be closer to what he gets, Jones will not got a 2 year contract either. Minor league deal for Jones again most likely. My fault... I had Vlad's name there and changed it and your numbers are closer to what he'll get.. Cordero had 4ip pitched in 08 that's why the 2.00 whip, he's low risk and very cheap if, and he can pitch if healthy.

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
YonderLaroche replied to pmcochr's topic in Pale Hose Talk
BOTH Swish trades, Thome, Griffey trade, Rios Contract/Salary, Tony Pena, Horacio Ramirez, Vasquez (Maybe made playoffs last year with him instead of Colon/Contreras Crap Starts), That crap backup catcher we got last year... all I can think of recently.. Anyways I just don't like the direction this team's going in besides getting Peavy.. -
Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
YonderLaroche replied to pmcochr's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Another BAD trade. Besides getting CQ/Peavy when's the last time we made a decent trade. Getz is better than Teahen and will be cheaper, younger, for more years. Getz is faster, better OBP, Defense. We can't compete with Yankees/Angels/BoSox/Twins unless we get some REAL TALENT here not trading young talent for average players. -
The Sox barely made the playoffs last year and started the season with a old, less talented team. Vasquez, Swisher, Uribe, Crede were gone. We had Wilson Betemit, Brian Anderson, Josh Fields, Bartolo Colon instead on opening day. Quentin's been hurt all season, and probably won't get back to 08 form til next year. We acquired Peavy, but he will only pitch maybe three games, Rios hasn't done anything Brian Anderson wouldn't do yet, Tony Pena's sucked, Ramon Castro has sucked.. even with the players we acquired, it was too little too late.. This team is exactly who we thought they were. (before the season started)

Is this the #1 Reason for our 2nd half debacle
YonderLaroche replied to joeynach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
#1 CQ/Dye/Linebrink #2 Rest of bullpen #3 Buehrle #4 Ozzie's weird lineups and mismanagement of bullpen #5 Defense #6 Rest of offense in clutch situations -
Minnesota Twins @ Chicago White Sox, 7:11, CSN
YonderLaroche replied to justBLAZE's topic in 2009 Season in Review
This offense has got to be the worst i baseball.. this offense has been horses*** at manufacturing runs.. WALKER needs to go, because if I gotta go through another season of watching every hitter swing for the fences every AB I'm done watching this team... Dye is done, which sucks for all he's done for this team but he will be gone. We really need a proven .300 hitter that can get over 100 rbi.. and hopefully Rios/CQ pick it up next year, or we're gonna be horses*** again. -
If we got Bradley as our DH, he wouldn't have to worry about getting racial slurs yelled at him and beer thrown on him in the OF.. I'm for it and the Cubs will probably pay most of his salary just so it ain't a total loss if they release him.
-
Only the Sox can find a way to be shutout when its Peavy vs Dusty Hughes
-
We could have Rowand instead of Rios right now... KW committed almost the same exact contract rowand wanted to rios.
-
Garcia/Hudson > Bedard.. we need a bullpen help.

NL AVG OBP SLG 260/.331/.411 AL AVG OBP SLG 266/.335/.430 Not much of a difference, if you put the DH factor into it. NL isn't that much easier. Pedro hasn't really been healthy in a few years, but he has really good stuff when he is. I can't believe it took him so long to be signed.

QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 10:53 PM) Holliday ISN'T coming here. Probably not but we need a power/high avg hitter who can drive in 100+ runs. That's another hole in this team. Vlad Guerrero/Abreau/Matsui will all be free agents next year too.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) That is a great point. I would love if we took the money Dye is making, and put it to sign Figgins. We need a power hitter with a HIGH avg/obp/rbi we don't have that. PK isn't consistent enough, Quentin is a question mark.. that don't leave anyone else with 20+ HR potential. We need a Matt Holliday type so our offense WON'T suck 1-9 almost every game.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) 1. Ultimately, who cares? He's the same guy he was his whole career 2. So what? Cherry picking an incomplete stat and his BABIP was about 30 points lower than his career average. 3. Exteremely arguable on both ends and Swisher has a FAR better track record, we were talking about this year. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...ar=2008&t=b http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...ar=2008&t=b 4. Again, who cares? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=74441 (specifically the section about negligable correlation between runs produced and Ks) 5. Nah, he was as good as Pods is in CF and not leagues worse if any worse than Wise (he was playing there full time for the first time in his career. 6. Who cares? The team was about the same/little bettter with him on the team last year. The A's of the 70's got into fist fights in the clubhouse, chemistry is overrated, it's magical when you win and scapegoated when a team loses. He hasn't exactly destroyed the NYY clubhouse this year has he? Again, the best argument for why they traded him was they decided his salary didn't fit their future plans, which if Rios goes back to around his career averages and plays CF full time next year, it was probably the right decision in the long run. They played and old Griffey and Dewayne Wise over him last year; he was bitter about it. He had to go, and I think if we kept him, we wouldn't have Pods or Rios right now.

QUOTE (VAfan @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) Why did KW trade Nick Swisher this offseason Because... 1. He's a D-Bag 2. He hit .219 last year 3. Dewayne Wise outperformed him offensively and defensively last year 4. He strikes out too much 5. He was a fourth OF/backup 1B 6. He's a D-Bag nobody liked, and have you noticed when we play Yankee's Konerko won't even talk/look at him at first.
