  1. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Somebody better be accountable for this bulls*** when we have the worst offense in the league. I haven't felt this bad about a team pre-season starting since before 2000. Our offense is going to be THAT bad Really? Dewayne Wise last year? Getz rookie year last year? Josh Fields? Jermaine Dye - Alex Rios Josh Fields - Gordon Beckham Chris Getz - Mark Teahen Paul Konerko - PK A.J. Pierzynski - AJ Carlos Quentin - Healthy CQ Alexei Ramirez - Alexei Jim Thome - Jones Dewayne Wise - Pierre Defense will be WAY better, OBP will be better, faster, and no more 3/4/5/6 station to station of CQ/PK/Dye/Thome. I'm not too thrilled about Teahen, but hopefully he can put up solid avg and will stay healthy compared to Getz. OF defense is way better (Wise was good, but Pods sucked.). This team needs change, and its getting it... though I'd rather of brought in Orlando Hudson and Damon over Teahen/Jones/Kotsay, but I'm not GM.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) This is a Thome thread but I agree people are underestimating the loss of Dye offensively. We did see the loss the second half and it wasn't too pretty. Maybe that's why some are OK with Kotsay and Jones. The first half, JD was a great hitter. JD's first half was great and helped the team win a ton of games in 09... 2008 he was the only one besides Quentin to not get in a bad slump, and helped the team win many games. 2005-2007 speak for themselves when it comes to JD. The real problem with the lineup was the hitters last year. Thome was the most consistent and on base the most, despite having a lot of strikeouts. If Konerko pulls the same crap again, Quentin don't hit like 08, Beckham slumps, Rios don't figure it out, AJ's offense declines, Pierre don't get on base, Teahen is "average".... Adrian Gonzalez couldn't save the offense. Thome would be nice, but PK has probably been the most inconsistent and frustrating the past few years, and he will still be hitting 3rd. Don't forget the hate these guys will get if they fail in 2010: Rios, Teahen, Pierre, Jones, Quentin.
  3. Cowley says Ozzie to talk to media in a little while... might be a 'No' on Thome.
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) Last thing I would worry about is a backup infielder if we got Damon. Sign some minor leaguers for depth at Charlotte or hope Nix accepts a DFA there. Or just sign someone out of a job later in the season if need be. I would jump out of my shoes if we got Damon, he makes so much sense for this lineup IMO. Damon would be nice but makes Jones expendable, I doubt he wants to sit on bench and pinch hit and really wouldn't be needed for Defensive replacement.... I think the Sox are gonna try and have him start as much as possible if he has a decent spring training... I don't see us getting Thome or Damon, because KW thinks he can get lightning in a bottle for 500k. Remember KW is cheap and payroll is probably "Maxed Out" again, then he'll trade some prospects in June/July for a 5 million a year bat who is overpaid. (Rios, Castro, Griffey, Swisher recent trades/claims)... and I know none of the prospects have amounted to anything but it will happen eventually. Personally, I'd rather see Nady signed cheaper than Damon or Thome. He can play 1B/OF and start everyday.. and move kotsay. (Nady could probably be signed around same price as Kotsay)
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) Last time he did this he got Peavy and Rios. He's gonna do something... that's probably why he wont do anything.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard anyone say involving baseball. Hmm 50 HR = 50 RBI/50 RUNs minimum 50 SB = 0 RBI/0 Runs Minimum Ozzie is really not making any sense. I hope this team does good, but if we finish under .500 or hover around .500 again he needs to go.
  7. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) Now Ozzie wants 13 pitchers on his staff??? That dont make any sense. 13 pitchers + 9 starting hitters = 3 guys on bench... so Jones starts, Kotsay, Vizquel, Castro is your bench.
  8. Star Tribune says "Twins interest is Real" http://www.startribune.com/blogs/82410307....=KArksDyycyUUUU It looks likely they'll sign him for part time DH/Pinch Hitter, he's a helluva teammate/mentor, and will put fans in the seats. One of my favorite players, too bad the Sox "Don't need him".
  9. Jose Contreras to Phillies pending physical...... wonder if Thome's next.
  10. The way its looking, payroll and roster spot wise, Jones and Kotsay are the DH. The only way I see us getting another hitter is through a trade that involves Jenks, and we can slide Putz/Thorton into closer.
  11. The guy won a gold glove 96-2007, his last full season.. hasn't hit above .222 since 07 either, but I can see .245, 35 HR, 90 RBI, and good defense in the outfield if given a chance to play a full season in the cell.. So far, that looks like KW's plan unless there's an injury or Greg Walkers advice finally puts his average under .200... then I can see him going after Thome.
  12. I'm thinking Jones/Kotsay platoon... with the arb raises payroll is around 100 million already, right? Maybe Thome for cheap, but I'm doubting it because there's not a roster spot either.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) I’ve seen some good centerfielders struggle to adjust in CF at Kaufmann. The dimensions are a bit odd, and it doesn’t help do have Jose Guillen to the right of you. This could potentially be a disaster defensively for the Royals. They’d be better off switching Dejesus to CF. Cant be any worse than pods/dye
  14. LOL... can't wait til 500k Andruw Jones throws up better numbers than Byrd this year. I hate the Cubs, but I like how bad they are/will be for the next few years.
  15. I know highly unlikely, but if the Sox got Holliday, attendence, wins, and playoff chances go way up. Which equals the revenue to pay him. If we're out of it in a few years, they can always trade him unless he turns into garbage (highly unlikely)... but I still see STL signing him. Pierre CF Beckham 2B Holliday RF Quentin DH Konerko 1B Ramirez SS AJP C Rios CF Teahen 3B Now that I will bet on a WSox world series... and they may need that to compete with Yankees, Redsox, Mariners, Angels, even Tampa Bay. The AL will have some elite teams this year.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) I have no interest in going after Holliday at anything close to the cost he'll get. We're not paying for him and our payroll would still under 120mil.
  17. Sign Matt Holliday and make CQ DH.. PK's off the books next year so i think it's possible.
  18. He sucks. Unless he's playing 2B in AAA, then medicore.
  19. Dewayne Wise accomplished more than BA in half the time in a Sox uniform.. and he got a minor league deal.
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) Hmmm... so I guess Thornton somehow died last year, but somehow is relevant this year eh? Damn... knew I was missing somebody.
  21. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) so he joins Fields, Getz, and Betemit Wonder if the Royals will have all on opening day roster?? (like 2009 white sox)
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) Eh, that belongs in the minor league catch all... He somehow got a major league deal..
