  1. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Someone asked Offman were there any names involved. He just responded this morning saying that no names and there are many other discussions with other teams involved as well. Yeah so that rumor was nothing unless you want to read between the lines, as expected. It does indicate that for whatever reason, The White Sox wanted it out there that Texas in interested. Ofman tweeted Texas interested at 2:36 yesterday and Bob at 2:41. I'm pretty sure their source is the same person.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) Exactly. Unlike baseball, the NBA is a superstar driven league. Now I know Butler is LeBron or anything, but he's a quasi-superstar and could potentially attract premier free agents. I've seen James' plan and while it's not a bad idea, I have absolutely no faith in the Bulls to take a future superstar with those lottery picks they'd get for Butler. Look at McDermott. Look at Mirotic. Look at Portis. Look at all the busts they've drafted lately. Why would that change now? People aren't coming to Chicago to play with Jimmy f***ing Butler instead of taking max deals in their current markets. That's the point
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) Find other players to build around him. You start with 1 superstar so easier to find a 2nd. When you have none, it is hard to even get to one, let alone two or three. I've given plenty of examples of teams with one star who waited out and then finally got the right piece. It could be via free agency, it could be via trade. I'm not dealing Butler today unless we get a massive haul. I also really haven't yet seen a team succeed through a "tank" strategy, but I've seen a lot of teams suck for a really long time because they can never get the good players in the draft. Who are you adding? Wade needs to leave in order for the Bulls to offer another max contract. The only guy that I could see coming to Chicago is Gordon Hayward. Hello 6th seed. Jimmy Butler is 28 years old. There is no path to being good with him the next 2 seasons. After that, he will need a new contract. Free agents won't be leaving their teams as much anymore. They especially won't be coming here. I've offered a plan. Nobody else has. You guys all say "add better players, draft better, you have a superstar get another one" and I hear "blahblahblah yay playoff basketball again". This organization is the biggest f***ing joke in Chicago. They have 1 option. Tear it to the ground. Building around Butler keeps you competitive but doesn't put you in the discussion to win titles. It's just kicking the can down the road. This plan isn't necessarily feasible but it's best option: Trade Niko and Taj for whatever you can get. Fire Gar Forman. Hire Matt Lloyd as GM. Trade Jimmy Butler for 2017 Brooklyn swap and 2018 Brooklyn 1st along with some combination of players from Boston. Dwyane Wade opts out. Bulls are bad the rest of the year and end up with a top 10 pick. Bulls also move Kings into the 11-14 range and take Brooklyn's top 3 selection. 3 lottery picks in this draft, one of which should be 1 of the big 3 PG's sets the Bulls up nicely into the future. They'd also have 2 lottery picks next year. They'd be bad and Boston may not make that deal but this gives you a much more realistic path to a title than patching s*** around Jimmy Butler does. It won't happen though because Michael Reinsdorf likes selling bobble heads and collecting playoff revenue. 1998 was a long ass time ago.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) I'm just playing with you on the 20 cents part, but yes, I really do think they should build around Butler instead of tearing it all down. What is your path to a championship with Butler on the roster?
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) My $0.2 is that they should build around Butler. Do you really believe that or just making fun of me?
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) Great start to the road trip. That was a total beat down of the Thunder (who are really struggling since Kanter went down). Yay Bulls. I watched it in anger. I hate this org so much.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 06:41 PM) 16 year old HS 1B Triston Casas has "re-classified" and will be in the 2018 draft. Should be a top 5 pick. His 80 grade power comp'd to Bryce Harper at same age: http://www.baseballamerica.com/high-school...p6wtDprSdTL1.97 Everyone talks about Seth Beer and rightfully so but I've seen 4 names mentioned prominently for 2018 class. Yes, I know this is a long time from now. Joe Gray SS/CF Mississippi High School: Luken Baker 1B/DH TCU: Triston Casas 1B HS Florida: Seth Beer OF/1B Clemson:
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 07:21 PM) Eh, they landed 6 guys who had 4 stars by at least one service. Ricky Smalling for example was rated a 4 star on 3 of the 4 services, is one of the best players in IHSA history, and has all the tools but for some reason 247 decided to single handedly destroy his ranking to the point where he doesn't even come out a consensus 4 star. Most of their recruits all had multiple power 5 offers which is better than losing out to MAC schools like usual. Yeah Ricky Smalling is a stud.
  9. 16 year old HS 1B Triston Casas has "re-classified" and will be in the 2018 draft. Should be a top 5 pick. His 80 grade power comp'd to Bryce Harper at same age: http://www.baseballamerica.com/high-school...p6wtDprSdTL1.97
  10. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 06:35 PM) I don't think anyone doubts the interest. The problem is that Beer certainly seems like the 1-1 pick (barring a sub-par season), the Sox don't seem like the worst team in baseball right now. Bad, yes. The worst? I wouldn't think so. Even without Q, there are worse teams. No Q puts them in top 3 pick territory. There are 2 HS guys that are very highly regarded as well.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 05:32 PM) It's a nice thought that the 75th pick is eligible to be moved, but that seems too low to get excited about being part of a trade with Houston for Q. No it doesn't. It's a great 4th piece. I'd rather give Hostetler the 800k to move around than a flyer like Victor Diaz.
  12. QUOTE (Username @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 05:11 PM) Phil Rodgers about to go on MLB network to discuss Q Phil said he talked to someone close to talks that thought they'd wait until trade deadline. Then he said he doesn't buy that. He said Sox and Astros have re-started talks. He specifically brought up Seth Beer. He said Sox want to be really bad and in a position for very high pick in 2018 and that Quintana being on the roster in the 1st half hurts those chances so he thinks they want to move him. He also mentioned that the Astros have the 75th pick that they can trade now.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) What is the gist of the segment? I haven't heard it yet Callers can ask either of them anything they want. Host says "Can't do it" if they refuse to answer and caller gets a prize.
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) If they are leveraging Houston they should have used the Pirates whom they have actually had some reportedly serious discussions with. THey used Texas because Houston wouldn't want Q to end up in Texas. The problem is that Texas doesn't want him in Houston either so they probably killed this right away. raBBIt has speculated in the past that Hahn and Daniels are very good friends and it would make sense for Hahn to use Texas as leak in situations.
  15. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) Here's the article that shot this down: http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/texas-rang...h-jose-quintana Grant even speculates that they are leveraging Houston. Sox don't usually do this though until they are far along in the process.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) Not taking sides but didn't Trump run on these issues? Why is everybody so surprised there's a wall coming and a ban on immigrants? I thought he ran on these issues. And he won the election. So why the outrage now? America elected the guy on these issues. Well, less than 30% of the country voted for him and most of them don't know how to use the internet.
  17. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) I was a little worried there that Lovie made him a personal priority and wasn't prying him from Indiana but man Lovie and staff have been almost perfect thus far recruiting wise. We've lost out on Thomas, Roberson and a few others but for the most part we've hit on all of our priorities. I heard Jeff Thomas couldn't get in there. Which is strange because he was eligible at Missouri
  18. Malik Hooker probably still goes in the top 10-15 picks. He's a stud.
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) Lovie gets another commitment in Bennett Williams. A 3* CB from Cali. First recruit to get from Cali since 2003. Lovie and staff continue to do work on the recruiting trail in his first real recruiting class. It was a foregone conclusion but Ricky Smalling is a huge get. That kid is a stud. Too bad they couldn't put Jeff Thomas next to him.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) In January, despite a "flu riddled 0-6 game" and the "start the game on the bench game", Jimmy put up a PER > 30. Obviously a small sample size, but if you are a believer of PER, that is ridiculously good. Everyone always says "Jimmy has peaked" and has said so for a couple years now and he keeps getting better. If you trade him to Boston for picks that could end up #3 and #5 for all we know in two consecutive drafts and you get guys who bust or are even mediocre, you will look back going, oh my how did we screw up. Boston is going nowhere this year and in the off-season, when you know what those picks are, is the time to move him if you want to (and you need to be getting those picks plus Jaylen Brown and Crowder or Beverly (not to keep but to move elsewhere). Even then I think that deal is a win for Boston. Look at the freaking Harden trade (obviously Harden has blown up since then). In fact, I don't look at the Bulls much different as the Rockets under Harden. A year ago...Rockets .500, this year they are one of the best teams in the league (still no hope at winning a title), but they are a lot closer to a championship then Philly or Lakers, imo. Harden is much better then Butler too (so don't get me wrong). Ridiculous that the Thunder had all three players and what they could have been had they not overreacted / overplayed their hand with Harden. I completely disagree that the Rockets are closer to winning a title than Philadelphia is. This keeping Jimmy argument is insane because nobody has offered me any semblance of a plan in which they become title contenders with Jimmy Butler on the roster. Not on here, not on twitter, not anywhere. I've firmly laid out what I'd do and acknowledged the potentail downside. When I ask how they become contenders, I hear, "Draft better", "Sign better FA's". Jimmy is going to be 28 years old and they have no chance at winning with him the next 2 years. You would have to pay him huge $$ at age 30-31 and what would they have around him? Sorry. Trading Butler to Boston is the only way this thing gets turned around IMO.

  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 11:25 AM) You have to look into the crystal ball and try to determine if there is a Lebron or Michael or someone of that ilk coming into the draft the next couple of years. That's when you tank and trade Jimmy. If it's just a bunch of meddling guys, you might as well hang on and try to score some FA. But Gar has to go. Pax has to go, and Fred is just not respected. He has to go as well. Gar isn't going to interest FAs since the money is about the same, and it's easier to attract players in Miami and LA in the winter. Chicago is not all that great of place to hang during basketball season. Dick, this upcoming draft is a monster one.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) By the way, the Heat were a middling team (with a superstar) when they landed LBJ & Bosh and went on to play in a bunch of championship games (and win some rings). Prior to that, the Heat were a middling team with a young Dwade superstar, when they landed Shaq and won a title. I also gave the example of Kobe and the Lakers prior to getting Pau and how they went from a middling team back to a title contender like that. The Celtics were a middling to poor team (with a star in Paul Pierce) before getting an aging Allen / Garnett where they went on to win a title. Not many examples of teams who got to where they were by tanking / winning the lottery (and getting to the title). In fact, the Warriors are the only example of that (since the Cavs only got back after they "signed" LBJ). I suppose I should also count the Spurs, albeit, they were a great team, whose top player got hurt and they thus bombed and ended up winning the lotto and getting Duncan. The Thunder got damn close. Durant, Westbrook, Harden are pretty great top 5 picks.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) The problem is...you look at the Cavs...they got Lebron...they didn't do anything else all that smart...they just got lucky enough to get Lebron. Warriors did a lot more and I'll give them credit cause they didn't have some generational talent fall into their laps at the #1 pick...they drafted well (near the top of the draft, but well). My point is, in the NBA, a star driven league, only a few teams are going to win...it is a dynasty league like no other sport (still). So few teams have won titles over the last 20 years in that sport and it is because of how superstar driven it is. It is hard to find 1 superstar, let alone 2 or three. The Lakers have had quite a few top picks and right now they don't have on player who looks like he could develop into a guy even remotely close to what Jimmy Butler is. The Sixers have made a ton of lottery picks and only Embiid looks like he has a shot at being in the echelon of Butler (and Embiid has serious injury issues). In fact, Okafor, the #2 pick (and a guy everyone was talking about the whole college season) is sitting on the freaking bench barely playing (while they hope to trade him...Lakers #1 overall pick, Russell is also getting ripped to shreds by LA media / fans). You got to draft well, but you don't necessarily need to be at the top. Look at all the championships Pat Riley won in Miami...yes they drafted Wade (and they didn't tank to get him) but almost everything else was done largely via free agency (and I agree that dynamic has changed, but I think it is will more morph into trades). I just do not support tanking. I am okay with rebuilding if that is what we see and the front office legitimately looks and says, we can't come up with any plausible scenario to build around Butler....that said, they haven't even freaking tried. They weren't sure what they were going to do this past off-season and this is the first year where we have seen Jimmy as the #1 option on our team (no more Rose) and he's emerged into a top 10 player. Shouldn't they at least "try" for a year or two while we have him under a bargain contract before dealing him (unless we get a blown away offer?). I agree here. Jimmy Butler is a top 15 player in the league. I don't see a path towards getting another one though is my point. Selling out right now to get Markelle Fulz of Washington or one of these other guys in the top 3 in addition to your own top 10 pick could do that. It could blow up and they could suck for a long time. The thing is though, they already suck now. If they made this deal with Boston (who knows if it's even been offered?) they'd basically have 4 lottery picks over the next 2 seasons, 2 of which probably top 5, gives you the chance at 1-2 of those dynasty type players. There is no other path towards acquiring a guy like that to place next to Jimmy Butler.
  25. Lovie will be fine. They'll never be Ohio State or Michigan but there's no reason they can't be Iowa.
