QUOTE (Dunt @ May 24, 2016 -> 07:27 AM) Probably not, not like they have many other options kicking down the door though. I imagine Narvaez can be a serviceable backup, but the FA market isn't all that appealing. Every free agent is over 30 besides Ramos. I bet Hahn finally gets Jason Castro in free agency

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron

QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 24, 2016 -> 07:15 AM) We have had some excellent fortune so far this season to cover up Abreu struggling, but most of us agree there will be a time when we need him to hit and help carry the rest of the team. I would just leave him in the 2 hole honestly. Let him see fastballs and try to find his way out of it. -
QUOTE (Dunt @ May 24, 2016 -> 07:17 AM) I really think they should still be targeting Lucroy right now. If Im thinking about ways to position this team in the second half, you can improve the most by adding Lucroy and bringing Anderson up. I would definitely consider even giving up Fulmer to lock up our catching situation as I just dont think either catcher is reliable at this point. Eaton Lucroy Cabrera Frazier Abreu Lawrie Hayes? Jackson Anderson Lucroy is a free agent after next season. Are they going to pay a 30 year old catcher to stay around at that point?

5/23 Game 1 - Indians @ Sox, 4:10, CSN
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in 2016 Season in Review
I'm not a fan of Ventura but Cooper makes most of the pitching decisions. I never see him criticized. -
Can we find the 2014 draft thread and re-open it? It's a great thread.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 23, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) 6 years later, this is a VERY interesting read haha. It's interesting to see how the fanbase viewed Sale when the Sox first drafted him. Bump the Rodon one too. Happiest Soxtalk thread ever.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 07:08 PM) And if that happens, he's winning the 2016 Cy Young Award in a White Sox uniform....YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Haha this is crazy

QUOTE (Lillian @ May 23, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) I guess we have to trust the scouts. However, we all know the arguments against a Prep position player: 1) They haven't had an opportunity to ever demonstrate their ability to hit high quality pitching. 2) They require a long time to develop. 3) They aren't even physically mature, so it's difficult to know what they will look like, once they mature. Regarding "best player". The rankings are very close between Collins and Rutherford. Therefore, I assume that there is not a clear "better player". I'd rather have a guy who could contribute in a year or two, rather than 5 years. This is so intriguing to me: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/5/10/1...f-miami-florida Rutherford can hit, run, and play defense. Collins can hit and has high OBP skills and probably no defensive position.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 23, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) Has anyone seen a release about a move of bringing up Erik Johnson? Because they brought up Kahnle to serve as the 26th man Interesting to see Frazier and Cabrera as the 3-4 hitters with Abreu hitting 5th this game. They'll send someone down after the game and recall Johnson. Matt Purke is my guess. Should be Sanchez though.
-
QUOTE (Lillian @ May 23, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) I'll be disappointed. A high school position player just seems like such a gamble, as well as a long wait for any contribution. I really want Collins. He's 19 from a College Prep school though and would most likely be the best player on the boards if they land him. Would be an excellent choice in my opinion.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 23, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) FutureSox @FutureSox 10m10 minutes ago Curious of who the #WhiteSox could take with their first pick in the #MLB draft? http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2016/...kenny-williams/ … I'd be all for Blake Rutherford. As would I :

Tommy Kahnle has been activated as the 26 guy for both games. They need to make another roster move to activate Johnson for the night game though.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 23, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) Because he's already 33 years old and is due at least $40 million through 2019. Unless he came very cheap, I want nothing to do with him. He's due the prorated amount this season plus $13.5 in 2017 and $13.5 in 2018, with a $1 million buyout for 2019. That is what pitchers cost. I'd rather have Santana for a low prospect cost and take on the contract than someone like Teheran where they'd definitely be trading Fulmer.
-
The White Sox don't need Chris Archer or Sonny Gray. They also don't have the pieces to get something like that done. It's unnecessary. They need a solid #3 or #4 starter. I suggested Ervin Santana because he won't cost much in terms of prospects. I think the Sox can acquire help without giving up Anderson and Fulmer but it's imperative that they take on salary for either the starting pitcher or hitter that they acquire. Should cost less in terms of prospects then.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 23, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) Yeah, no. Santana is a horrible idea. Why is he a horrible idea? He has a 3.50 FIP and he'd be the Sox 4th starter. He'd also come very cheap most likely in terms of prospect cost.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) Pitchers who might be available (based on their teams) Tyler Chatwood (COL) Jordan Zimmerman (DET, if the Tigers fall out of the race) Masahiro Tanaka (NYY) Julio Teheran (ATL) Dan Straily (CINCY) Rich Hill (OAK) Drew Pomeranz (SD) Marco Estrada (TOR) Erasmo Ramirez (TB) JA Happ (TOR) Jimmy Nelson (MIL) David Phelps (MIA) James Shields (SD) Fernando Rodney (SD) Ryan Buchter (SD) Ervin Santana (MIN) Fernando Rodriguez (OAK) Jeanmar Gomez (PHA) Daniel Hudson (AZ) Nathan Eovaldi (NYY) Also Pineda/Nova/Sabathia Fernando Abad (MIN) Ryan Madson (OAK) Ricky Nolasco (MIN) I want Ervin Santana from the Twins and Will Smith from the Brewers.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 23, 2016 -> 08:20 AM) I would suggest a more open/revolving door with Charlotte for the Sands and Sanchez spots (I like Sanchez - he may be a regular in time - but we already have an extra infielder - need the spot to audition bats). Saladino should play at least equal minutes with Rollins. I agree with this. I'd almost rather have Leury than Sanchez because Leury can play the OF and steal a base. Saladino should be the starter and Rollins should never face another RHP all season. Rollins can start at SS vs LHP. My question is: Would Rollins be better against RHP if he just hit right handed instead of batting lefty? He hit 11 homers from the left side last year compared to 2 right handed but he had a wRC+ of like 115 vs LHP I believe. -
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 23, 2016 -> 12:45 AM) Draft will be 2 weeks from Thursday. Is there a legit possibility that Ray falls to 10? Would be a cool story if he did. I don't think he gets past the Brewers at #5 honestly.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 23, 2016 -> 02:03 AM) At least wait for them to lose two in a row, something they haven't done all year, before mocking them. Personally, I'll be pissed if it's not Cavs/Warriors in the finals. He plays for the Sixers. That's about as empty as it gets. He's gifted offensively. Defensively? Not so much. So much of what Philly does from here on out is at the mercy of Embiids health. Disagree with this. If Ben Simmons is a superstar, which I think he will be, they are fine.
-
QUOTE (Lillian @ May 20, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) Perhaps I've gotten the wrong impression. It just seems like most posters here think that he's "untouchable". Any time a trade proposal is made, which might have to include Anderson, many nix it immediately. It doesn't make sense to trade him unless you get a player with multiple years of control in return. Not untouchable but he's not going for some rental or 2 year guy with a big $$ commitment.

So we have seen and heard about the Sox linked to OF Blake Rutherford and Corey Ray ( for obvious reasons) so far. Also linked to Wisconsin Prep SS Gavin Lux and Georgia RHP Robert Tyler. Has anyone seen anything else?

I don't understand how Kansas City wins playing this style of baseball.
