  1. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 10:44 AM) To me it's sort of like beating your head against the wall at this point. I really don't think you're going to see any major changes in the FO or in Robin and his staff in 2016. I think the fact that RV went 85-77 and almost won manager of the year in 2012 still matters more than his overall sub .500 performance. In fact, I think Tyler Flowers will be behind the plate and Adam LaRoche will be your DH/1B as well...or at least, we should not be surprised if that's the case. Rick Hahn was a highly coveted commodity not so long ago -- he turned down the Cardinals and was ranked #1 GM prospect by SI and others. If we credit Hahn with the moves since October '12, then you have to say he's had some winners and losers but it's also fair to say that he deserves more time. For me the biggest question with Rick is this: Is he really in charge of the key decisions being made? Are Doug Lauman, Nick Capra and Buddy Bell the guys he wants? Is RV and/or anyone on his staff the guys he wants? If the Sox made a splashy move and brought in a guy like Dombrowski then you would assume that every significant decision from there on out would be on his approval -- coaching staff, scouting, etc. If the Sox dumped at the deadline or went for it then you'd feel pretty sure that it was a Dombrowski decision. Right now it's tough to say. Nick Hostetler is definitely a Rick Hahn guy. I want KW to leave because I'd like to see Hahn run it on his own. He may fail but at least we'd have clarity as far as knowing who's responsible for the moves being made.
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 07:24 AM) Zangari had another nice game. He seems very comparable to the Cubs' Vogelbach. Both large men (Vogelbach a little more compact though because he is shorter) and pure left-handed mashers. Both also profile as 1B/DH. Zangari's next step is to work on that BB rate. Zangari hits Right-handed.
  3. I haven't been watching MLB Network today but apparently Nightengale was on and mentioned that he thought Kenny Williams would end up in Seattle or Toronto. It's interesting if true because Bob Nightengale has always been a mouthpiece for Kenny. May actually be some smoke here.
  4. I'd like a Jermaine Dye bobble head from this next Saturday's game. I could pay someone for it or trade a Podsednik from the previous giveaway. Thanks.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 11:54 PM) Boni got DFA'ed which was correct call. It's time to cut ties with Beckham forever. Gordon just can't cut it. Time to forget about Gordo forever. Micah can't do any worse in the backup role. Micah can only play 2B though.
  6. QUOTE (Sox Fan In Husker Land @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 11:44 PM) But have you seen his pitch framing, I hear it's amazing. I know this is sarcasm but I believe he's top 5 in baseball in pitch framing. It's a big deal. Pitchers also like throwing to him. Rodon has been great with Flowers behind the dish. I would expect that Flowers will be on the Sox for years to come. They just need to get a better starting catcher and let TFlow catch Sale and Rodon.
  7. He got hurt during OTA's. They knew it was a stress fracture though. They tried to heal it with rest and avoid all of these questions. When he ramped his workouts back up, he realized that it still hurt and the team opted for surgery. He has a 3-6 month recovery time and will most likely miss his rookie season but he should be 100% once he returns.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 08:40 PM) Except Shields had a 3.20 ERA last season and a much better track record than Shark. He was also the 2nd3/rd best pitcher in the class. 2016 is loaded with free agent pitchers. Shields is also older than Shark is.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) and Belisario You can't mention Paulino without also mentioning Gillaspie, Soto, Putnam, Albers. Those guys last 3 were all minor league deals that hit.
  10. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 11:59 PM) Maybe DJ already knows. His contract like Stone's is up after this season. And if you're referring to Bob Waller that's incorrect. Waller was fired because of his pre game show with Chuck Tanner on the last day of the 1974 season. Chuck (God rest his soul) was talking about all the positive things the Sox did and Waller simply got tired of the spin and asked him why weren't they winning then? Tanner got so mad he walked off the field in the middle of the live pregame show. Waller spent the rest of the time asking questions and giving "truthful" answers to them. Ownership was not amused. The only partner Harry had (and he was a mentor to me) that he didn't like and made no bones about it was J.C. Martin. Harry felt he had no business being in a broadcast booth. I know J.C. have interviewed him, an extremely nice guy but Harry was right. J.C. was brutal. Mark I'd see if they could take Dave Wills from Tampa Bay. Give him the radio booth with DJ and fire Farmer.
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 07:49 AM) A ton of my Twitter feed was completely freaking out about Jameis and the Bucs after last night. Granted, I didn't watch any of the game last night but cmon people. The problem is that their OL is awful and OT Demar Dotson went down last night. They have playmakers on offense and a rookie QB that should flash positive things and make mistakes. I think about 6-10 is right for Tampa Bay. If Winston is reallllly good, that trajectory can change.
  12. From what I've read and heard: It seems like White's recovery time is 3-6 months but will be 100% after. This is a smart move even though it really sucks because I wanted to see him this season.
  13. Heyward will be way too expensive and not worth it. He's a great player but so much of his value comes from defense. If the Sox are going to spend what it takes to get Heyward, I'd rather have better hitters. They need offense and Heyward just doesn't provide enough of it.
  14. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) Jordan Guerrero is kind of a legit dude. Would love to see a scouting report of what his repertoire is. If Stoltz still scouting down in the Carolina League these days? Guerrero has been really good.
  15. I don't want the White Sox to give up any picks this offseason regardless of where they choose. They aren't in a position to be giving away draft selections.
  16. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 01:09 PM) I loved Hawk making this comparison of the Sox to the Royals, but because of the broader and more salient point he was trying to make. It doesn't really matter where he came down on which position player was better than which. That's a matter of opinion, and Hawk is entitled to his as is anyone else. I'm sure if we polled everyone at Soxtalk and had them compare the Sox to the Royals, a whole variety of different opinions would result. Hawk's real point, which was quite good, IMO, was that the key to the Royals success is due primarily to how well they execute and do the little things, the fundamentals. In other words, in his view, the Sox on paper were a better team, talent wise, but in actuality, what separates the two teams is how far better the Royals are at running the bases, hitting the cutoff man, etc. And when you watch the two teams play, particularly when its head-to-head, you can easily tell he's "dad gum right"! That's not true though. The Royals are better than the Sox because they have better players than the Sox do.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 11:30 AM) Hawk has been doing TV for the Sox since I was a kid. He may be over-the-top sometimes, but he's OUR guy. He's not corporate and he's the voice of the fan. Harry Caray was much worse when he did Cubs games. He's not the voice of the fans. He might be the voice of stupid fans.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) I realize I have different tastes than everyone else as I am one of the few supporters of Farmer/DJ, but enough with the love of other broadcasting booths, especially "professional" ones. They are all terrible. Kasper reading acronym stats for 3 hours? Terrible. Scully? Terrible. They are all just filling the void of providing some distracting noise to prevent us from our terrifying thoughts as we watch baseball. Your opinions are stupid. Scully is terrible now? Umm alright. Cubs booth far superior to Sox booth too.

  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 05:49 AM) That was better than Rongey trying to troll Lester's inability to hold runners when the Cubs are in the midst of an insane run. Rongey is a Cardinals fan. Not surprised.
  21. Boers and Bernstein have criticized Hawk for years. It has nothing to do with the team leaving the station. I think many people that do it just want a professional broadcast. I know I do. Also, Chris Tannehill is a White Sox fan. Goes on numerous White Sox trips to different cities every year.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 01:31 AM) It's our bad luck that LaRussa, Leyland aren't 10 years younger and Lasorda 15-20 years younger. And Bobby Cox not 15 years younger. There are no good veteran candidates besides Gardy. And Gardy is not a good veteran candidate. I don't want an old curmudgeon that has no interest in modern stats.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 01:13 AM) If Hahn can dump Shark, LaRoche, Melky, Robertson, Duke and Lexi I'll be a happy camper for starters. Out of this list, Alexei could possibly move. Robertson, LaRoche, Melky will all be on next year's team and Samardzija will bring back a 1st round pick next June.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 09:55 AM) The girl is 26 years old. Okay thanks. Some people speculated that it was the situation I brought up.
  25. Isn't the GOP nominee obviously Bush though? Seems that way to me. He'll stay more conservative than he actually is to appease the base and win the nomination and then he'll go more to the middle for the general election. Just a matter of time.
