QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 09:21 PM) Which makes it a bit ironic that the team with the best ERA in the AL has use for him, but the team with the 13th best ERA doesn't. And, going by the game threads this season, there aren't very many fans of Tyler Flowers' or Geo's pitch calling, either. They are both good at pitch framing though Caulfield……..wasn't it you that pointed that out? Haha. I'm just giving you a hard time. Both are bad. I think Phegley is bad too though.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) But now you are getting a 2 month rental. That lowers the value considerably. Besides his hitting, last I saw Phegley had the 2nd best % in throwing out base-stealers in AL. How ironic the Sox desperately need a catcher and they dumped him. They don't like Phegley's game-calling skills. He was never going to play for the Sox anymore.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 05:04 PM) If he wants to be here he will be here. If he doesn't want to be here then why force him? He'll be here in 2016 regardless

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 04:42 PM) Bulls supposedly have Belinelli and Stuckey on their lists of FA targets. Both would be real nice fits. I am curious if they'll look at Ben Gordon as a vet min bench guy. I saw Caron Butler mentioned too as a guy for the minimum

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 27, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) That's fine, but it doesn't mean you have to give him a way for a dime-a-dozen level prospect Why not? They've done that with a ton of other guys that Q didn't like as well.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 11:45 AM) You tell me, who pushed the most to sign Robertson...was it Hahn, getting KW and JR on board....or KW, pushing Hahn to get it done and after/then convincing JR? We've read all the stories about how it actually took place at the winter meetings, but who was the one who pushed for the overpaid, expensive "elite" closer the most? Robertson actually seems more like a Hahn type than KW though. He doesn't throw hard and has tons of movement.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 11:14 AM) He could choose to just take a Bulls 1 year offer. If he accepts any other teams deal, then we match and he's with us at least 3 years. Reality is he probably works something out with the Bulls for a 4 or 5 year deal with an opt out in 2 years but I don't know if the Bulls are going to play hard ball and see if he really waits and signs for super cheap. If he did sign super cheap this year, might change things as Bulls could find a way to get cap space and be major players and then hope to sign someone else and then you can just pay massive tax and use the bird rights on Jimmy Buckets after you win the title. PS: If Butler and Rose don't get along, Rose is gone. Find a way but Jimmy is the Alpha on this squad. All that said I hope they can both make amends and would think with Rose's personality they probably could. The problem though is that if Jimmy Butler is your best player, you can't win a title.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) I think it's more of Ken Williams' ideas and Hahn went out and executed those ideas. Too much Williams' M.O. on the last offseason . I don't know if Rick is 100% on board or not. He is a GM - who's going to turn that down? So he had to make a few moves that he wouldn't have done had he been in charge...that won't cause someone to resign. Still, he's been with Williams a long time and so there is some level of agreement between the 2. For sure, Williams needs to go. If Hahn is a casualty, so be it. I disagree. He turned down GM jobs in other spots that didn't give him autonomy. There's no way he took this one without actually being the GM.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) He's only restricted this year though right? So in reality the Bulls can get him next season for sure, but after that it's a bidding war. We can offer him that extra year, but he doesn't have to take it. The Bulls are the only team that can offer Butler a 1 year deal. So he could take the Bulls 1 year deal and then leave as an UFA next summer. If the Bulls offer him a max, no other team can sign him for less than 3 seasons. And if they do, the Bulls will just match the deal. My guess is, he signs a 3 year $50 million offer sheet and the Bulls match it.

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) Point is I'd rather see them in the lineup, Davidson has been on a tear in CHA actually and is homerun or strike out just like LaRoche for 12 million cheaper, Leury can be a solid utility on a s*** team though, CWS qualifies as one So walks don't count? LaRoche has walked a ton. I'd like to see Davidson as well but saying he'd replace LaRoche's production isn't accurate. Also, Melky isn't going anywhere.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 10:55 AM) Pretty obvious over the last few weeks that Hahn isn't actually calling the shots This isn't really true. He built the team. He and ideas. Pitched those ideas to Kenny and then they went forward. Hahn talked about wanting Melky and speaking to the agent. Then he Reinsdorf gave him the go ahead. Rick Hahn isn't a puppet or he wouldn't have taken the job. He does have a boss though. That would be Kenny Williams.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 08:18 AM) And that's management's response to cover for Ventura. That he overachieved and ALMOST won Manager of the Year in 2012. The problem with this particular line of defense is that it also opens up the front office to even more questioning...if the talent level from a "near playoff" team in 2012 has degraded so badly, whose fault is that, then, precisely? For sure. To me, the issues go back to those late Ozzie years though. From 2008-2011, this team used its already weak farm system to supplement the big league roster. There were multiple years that this team should have been "sellers" under KW/Ozzie and they hung around and just never did it. They went for it every year and took the draft and international market for granted. They weren't spending the appropriate amount of $$ in those areas. Hahn took over a barren system. I think his past few drafts have been positives and they've brought in some promising talent from the international market. I think that there is talent in the system but it is at AA and lower. They signed Abreu to a nice deal and he ended up being a superstar type hitter. They have a #1, and #2 starter locked up cheap for years. They didn't want to waste those years and they decided to take a shot this year. It backfired. They'll trade Shark, Ramirez, and maybe Duke. And then they'll try to win again in 2016. It's just what this organization does. At least the system is being fed finally though. I'd do more to take advantage of the international market but they are spending their full allotment on the draft and it will bear fruit in time. It was just neglected for so long that they find themselves in the immediate mess that they are in now.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 08:41 AM) you are slightly wrong on this. the yanks and the sCrubs over spent b/c they had a big hole in the systems of not having bodies to develop. the yanks even said that several times before the draft. i am saying to over spend, b/c of the same excuse that has been used, b/c of lack of bodies, bodies that may develop in 4+yrs. to help the future of the org. I hope they don't overspend this year though. Ideally, they'll go nuts next year because I think the system will be different in 2017.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 05:31 AM) I don't care what people say, players, people in general, respond to good leadership and the Sox don't have any. Whether it's a group of players or the manager/coaching staff, leadership makes a difference. Obviously, there are different leadership styles, and I'm not saying a guy has to be yelling all the time, but whatever the Sox currently have in place is not working. If leadership qualities didn't matter, there would be no good, or bad, managers/coaches. You can take any sport and there's a reason certain guys are winners, Bill Parcells, Urban Meyer, Tony LaRussa, et al, and have won in multiple locations. Granted, you need talented players but a good leader gets the most out of that talent. There is one overriding constant to being a really good coach though: they all have/had really good players.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 28, 2015 -> 10:40 PM) So what are the Bulls going to do in Free Agency? Taj Gibson is probably the one most in play here, especially after the drafting of Portis. What would you be after in terms of a trade package, a future 1st rounder maybe? And if I'm going to pick 3 Free Agents most likely to switch teams, it'll be Aldridge, Monroe and Tobias Harris. Bulls offseason for me: Re-Sign Butler Trade Taj for a wing (Terrance Ross) Hypothetical Sign Jameer Nelson with MMLE Sign Ben Gordon and Caron Butler to the minimum That's doable.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) That win might again wake up the Tigers. Just as the Sox wake up the Indians and Twins. What a disgusting baseball team. How could anybody in their right mind pay to go to a Sox game the rest of the season? I'd puke handing over the money for parking or a 10 dollar burger at this point. I'm going on the 4th for my Jenks bobble head. I'll go a few more times. I like watching Sale, Q, and Rodon pitch in person. And it'll be cheap. And nobody will be there. My summer tradition pretty much.

I used to go to St. Louis quite often for coaching clinics. The Penthouse is a must if a "Gentleman's Club" is your thing. Just saying.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 27, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) Raanta trade is a bit of a head scratcher to me. I, for one, liked him and still see him as a potential #1 on a good team. I'm not against trading him in general, but the return makes it look like a salary dump even though the kid wasn't making any money. Q wasn't a fan apparently. Saw that on twitter

QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Jun 27, 2015 -> 12:02 PM) I don't like it. Makes the middle/bottom of order even more of a black hole. It gives their best player the chance at more at-bats though. I like the team's best hitter in the 2 hole.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) Also the dick way of doing it, not that he picked another school. Illinois fans are delusional if they thought Alexander was going there in the first place though.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) I don't Cliffy got karma back on him. Karma for what? The hat thing? Illini fans are petty. The kid is 19. I can't believe people are really happy to see bad things happen to him. It's kind of sad actually.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 04:47 AM) I kinda feel bad for him. This bogus thing at Kansas cost him PT and made him go pro before he was ready. Yeah I agree. I hope the Bulls give him a shot in summer league. He never really did anything wrong. He's a tweener and may never be that good but if he weren't required to attend college in the first place, he'd be in the NBA right now.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 02:44 AM) I think the Sox are going to sell at the deadline and that could bring them prospects back but the team could realistically get the third pick in the draft, which would be huge as it bestow the team with the third highest spending pools in both the draft (Bonus pool should be close to $10M) and international market (Bonus pool should be around $4.5M). Of course teams could always trade for more pool space and draft picks, they could offer Shark an QO and get the comp pick. The comp pick that Atlanta got in exchange for Ervin Santana, 28th overall pick had a value of $1,974,700. By making a series of trades the Braves were able to acumulate a bonus pool of over $10M which was the fourth biggest after initially having the 14tg largest pool. So even if the team didn't make your expectations, there is a sikver lining and in this case, this silver slining could do wonders to the organization's foundation going forward. Opinions like these actually make this thread one of the better ones annually in my opinion. Many people have a problem with the idea of rooting for losses and I completely understand. It makes you conflicted as a fan. This post sums it up nicely though. It would be very beneficial. Good stuff, Joshua.
