  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 07:05 PM) I think CF just lost the ball and his route made it look like the ball changed direction when in reality, it was tailing back due to lefty hitting it. Not to be a dick, but the video of it on MLB.com is titled "Sanchez's homer off the catwalk". To me it's clear as night and day it hit something and the first thing that came to mind was a catwalk.
  2. It had to hit a wire or catwalk. Speaking of which, Paulie's inside the park homerun here is one of my favorite moments in White Sox history.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) His regression defensively is scary. He looks exactly like what he was rumored to be in the minors. Have to hope this is a fluke and not last year Or it will most likely be in the middle. Regardless, let's give him some time before jumping to any conclusions. All things considered he's an incredibly raw baseball player and things easily just click at some point. The tools are obviously there.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) Terrible SS, what the hell is he doing out there You're never going to survive this rebuild if you're writing a 23 year old off after two months.
  5. Quintana needs to man the f*** up and start dominating these f***s.
  6. Snodgress got the start in game 2 of Birmingham's double-header, so Cooper is probably going tomorrow then for what I believe is another double header.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) https://www.c-span.org/video/?429535-1/comm...happen&live Yay, another DeVos hearing!!! Lol...Patty Murray straight-up murdered DeVos in her opening remarks. I was waiting for a "I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul" to end it.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) Michael Hickman for Zevala? He probably makes the most sense to replace Zevela, with maybe Carlos Perez as an option too? I think Schnursbusch got sent back to extended, so he probably takes an OF spot at some point. The only other positional guy on Great Falls roster who was halfway decent and unaccounted for is Jake Jarvis. Doubt they want to rush many of the Latin guys from the AZL.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) Flores with a great start: 6 IP, 7 K, 0 BB, 5, HR 0 HR, 0 R, 66/97 strikes Kopech struggling a bit into the 3rd. And it looks like Kopech struck out the side in the 3rd.
  10. Flores with a great start: 6 IP, 7 K, 0 BB, 5, HR 0 HR, 0 R, 66/97 strikes Kopech struggling a bit into the 3rd.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) FutureSox‏ @FutureSox 24m24 minutes ago Five @Intimidators named to SAL All Star Game: Alec Hansen, Jimmy Lambert, Seby Zavala, Mike Morrison, Joel Booker: Hopefully all five guys get pushed up to A+ shortly after the game. Anyone interesting down in extended spring training to replace these guys?
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) Dealing with Boras is mainly annoying because you know he'll suck up every bit of bonus but good for him. But I just can't say that I'd want signability after 6.5 years of mlb control to be a driving factor. If Kendal gave us two 4-5 WAR seasons that drove him out of our range to re-sign him that means we had a hell of a player for 2 years and that is worth going for. If he never makes it to the league...then it didn't matter. I understand your argument CWS but to me it was worse with Rodon because he seemed so certain to drive himself into the MLB early while still developing. We see that now. But for Kendall I think it's less of a concern, there is low rationale to fast track him like Rodon. By no means do I think Boras should be a #1 consideration, but I think it should definitely be a factor when dealing with comparable players on your board. I do think the bonus pool concern is a great call-out, taking a Boras client in the first typically impacts the rest of your draft pool flexibility. As for Rodon specifically, I agree with your point, I guess I envisioned a smoother transition to the majors than most. I fully expect Kendall requiring a couple painful years in the majors to adjust even if all goes well. And that may be fine if you're confident that you'll get a good four elite seasons out of him, but I simply don't have that confidence.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) Will there be comparable talents on the board though? I don't believe there will be. Jake Burger and Evan White are significant steps down from Kendall ability wise. Austin Beck and Jordon Adell have similar issues and are further away. I mean overall in terms of ceiling and floor. No doubt Kendall has more ability than guys like Burger & White, but I think they both have much better chances of becoming solid major leaguers (and normally I prefer going for upside in the 1st, but in a weak draft, floor might be the way to go). To me, they're all roughly the same caliber of prospect, but I'm also someone who has serious concerns over college bats with swing & miss issues. And right or wrong, the fact that our organization still hasn't show it can develop these type of players makes me even more concerned with someone like Kendall. Honestly, I think this may be the perfect draft to target a Burger or White type guy for an underslot deal and then gamble on some high upside high schoolers later in the draft. For whatever reason, White is super intriguing to me, especially if you believe he can be an above-average OF defensively. I'd much rather gamble on his power concerns than Kendall's swing and miss issues.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 09:08 AM) Don't see a Kopech listed...is that from Barons' site? Who else could they start in Game 2? Snodgress? Stephens gives them six starters. Lowry gone? Colton Turner, Dunning (other one)....account for only games not started by Big 4, Lowry and now Stephens. Finally, when is Luis Robert going to appear in a game? DSL in 15 minutes. Birmingham hasn't announced starters for either game, but Kopech hasn't pitched since 5/31 and I'm nearly positive he should be going today. Cooper I'm less certain of now that Stephens is back. I'd assume Lowry would be the off man out, but the Sox haven't always committed to Cooper starting.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) If you get an offer for a #1 or 2 starter for Rodon, you move him. If not, you move forward with him. Yup, totally agree. Just unlikely to get that offer until he demonstrates that type of ability over a full season.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 08:32 AM) He's a fact of life though...there is not much use in trying to continue to avoid him as we did in the past. One other issue, I wonder if Kendall's stock has risen as a result of his recent play. It's not about avoiding Boras for me, it's about selecting a guy with serious boom-bust potential in the first round who is unlikely to ever agree to an extension. I was 100% for selecting Rodon with the understanding we'd probably only control him for 6 1/2 years. He provided a rare mix of floor & ceiling and was hands down the BPA at his spot. The same can't be said about Kendall, who may have the loudest tools but also has some serious question marks. If he was hands down the BPA or we were talking about a 2nd round pick, I'd be fine with it. But when comparable overall talents should be available at #11, I'd rather avoid the Boras risk if possible.
  17. Is Kendall's agent Boras? If so, that's a big turnoff for me.
  18. A lot of good pitching today. I apologize in advance if Cooper isn't actually starting (the Barons haven't announced starters), but it appears to be his turn in the rotation. Also, we got a couple of morning games with Kannapolis starting at 10:00am & game 1 for Birmingham starting at 11:00am. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20170606
  19. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 07:21 AM) I'm not writing Quintana off after a very bad 2 months, but he needs an equally strong 2 months to re-emerge as the top pitcher on the market come July else there's no sense in moving him until he has rebounded. Question on Rodon for the larger group. If he comes back to pitch this season (and he is on track too by all reports) and show his top of the rotation type stuff consistently, do the White Sox trade him in the off-season? He's a Boras agent and the clock is ticking. If the White Sox are good in 2-3 years from now, isn't he a free agent after another year or two beyond that? Does it make sense to keep a guy around who has little chance on being here beyond his rookie/arbitration years? I think you have to be open to trading him if he won't consider an extension, but you need to wait until he establishes himself as a legit TOR starter and one capable of being that over the course of the full season. We still have control over him for another four seasons, so there's absolutely no reason to rush into trading him. His value can still expotentially improve with one dominant season.
  20. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:43 PM) hell of a start by Giolito, I stand firmly on the take a step back from the ledge camp. Tall pitchers let alone ones that are being completely rebuilt often take time and Floyd and Halladay are recent examples of this. Giolito's last 5 starts 28IP 2.57 ERA 1.14 WHIP 8.36 K/9 Guerrero has been quietly turning it around once he got out of April. A future staff of Giolito Rodon Kopech Guerrero Hansen with Burdi, Fulmer & Lopez shutting it down out of the pen is something to dream on. Lopez should be the first guy called up this season and I think he sticks as a quality #3 type starter. I've defended Giolito all season, but he needs to keep this up a while longer before I peg him as the guy to lead our future rotation. To me, that guy is no doubt Kopech. He obviously needs more time to build up innings and work on his control, but you can't question his stuff and how incredible he's been so far in his short minor league career. Rodon should hopefully claim the #2 spot (assuming we don't trade him) and slot in between Kopech & Lopez. That leaves two spots long-term that need to be filled between Giolito, Fulmer, Stephens, Adams, Guerrero, Cooper, Dunning, Martinez, Hansen, & Flores. Giolito & Hansen are obviously the guys you want to work out, as they both have TOR upside, but the other guys provide a great blend of floor and ceiling. In particular, I have a lot of confidence in Adams & Dunning becoming major league starters in some capacity down the road. What's going to be interesting is to see how they phase these guys in over time. Come August 1st, we should have at least two openings in the rotation. One spot should go to Lopez, the other is up for grabs if Giolito or Fulmer wants to claim it. Otherwise, you're looking at more fringey guys like Danish or possibly Cooper getting a look. But with a bunch of legit SP prospects in AA plus the aforementioned guys in Fulmer & Giolito, we're going to hit a traffic jam at some point in 2018. By then you can expect another two spots being open and it's going to be extremely competitive to get those spots. At it stands today, our starting pitching depth appears to be in great shape.
  21. It's going to be seven hits soon with the caulfield jinx in play now.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 08:32 PM) Well, I'm not sure how 7 hits in 4 innings is "great/excellent" but if you're actually watching the game and have seen all those balls put into play, I'll have to take your word for it...rather than going by the MILB.com play by play. Seven hits? WTF are you talking about?
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) Infield hit in the first inning is changed to an error. Giolito 4 IP, 7K, 2BB, ER. 64 pitches, 43 strikes. Thanks for posting...was wondering what happened there. I can't believe anyone could find something negative about this start. This is exactly what we've been waiting for the last couple months.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) Typical mixed results for Giolito so far. 4 k's so far, but also a walk and 4 hits....lots of stolen base attempts (see Hansen), but was fortunately bailed out with two caught stealings/runners picked off. Lots of pitches thrown. And there's another walk, his 2nd. That WHIP number is simply not going to be sustainable at the next level. Somehow, the ERA has lowered to 5.26 but it has been fairly ugly going to get there. How are his numbers mixed tonight? Everything looks great so far to me. 4 IP, 7 K, 2 BB, 3 H, 0 HR, 43/64 strikes (67%) Seriously, what am I missing here?
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 08:55 PM) Chance of being killed by refugee terrorist in United States is one in 3.6 billion Donald Trump expected to issue order suspending immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries despite little evidence to support it. Shouldn't we also be declaring war on junk food and heart attacks? Texting while driving or walking across a busy street? God I hate responses like this. We are literally dealing with organized evil and people like you make light of it because the odds of it ever impacting you directly is small.
