Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick
Chicago White Sox replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don’t think this necessarily is a bad return for Burnes. It’s just more quantity than quality. Having said that, these pieces really wouldn’t work for us and we need potential impact talent (although Hall has some ceiling). -
A trade needs to happen in the next 19 days or I lose my ban bet with @baseball_gal_aly. If I lose that bet, burn this thread to the ground with me.

Fair enough…but I don’t agree it was reasonable to assume the Brewers would undercut a Cease market. I don’t think they were committed to dealing him unless they got the right deal (and this gives them two major league ready pieces that can slot into their rotation and at SS) and I don’t believe all GMs like paying up for arms with just one year of control. -

I can’t imagine Getz will go with a prospect that far away as one of the two big pieces. -

You literally just said he was “likely available” based on what exactly? -

Time for the Yankees to nut up and offer us Jones, Hampton, & Vivas or Cashman will risk joining Hahn in the unemployment line next off-season. -

Are we actually comparing Burnes and Bieber? And all the rumors suggested Burnes wasn’t very available. -

If you think Hall can actually start, then there is some logic to the move for the Brewers. That’s a big if though. I would expect Adames to traded next though. -

Oh boy…will be interesting to see the terms. Not what will worry me off more, the Brewers getting a strong or light return. -
Sox looking at building in South Loop

Oh I agree, but I always knew Bernstein was a biased & jaded asshole. I always liked Holmes, but just don’t like this take. I’m glad he cares about the broader community, but acting like a stadium in the 78 wouldn’t be transformation (if done right) is absurd. -

Yeah, I think he basically said he didn’t care anymore if they were going to leave for Nashville. Just a clown take all around and Berstein just as bad. I do enjoy the two Cubs fans in absolute disbelief that this conversation was even taking place. -

Wow, I didn’t realize that Lawrence Holmes sucks. -

Southsiders simply aren’t tough enough to endure public transportation like those badass Cubs fans! -

It makes more sense because more people will want to go to the awesome new stadium in the awesome location filled with lots of stuff to do. And the idea that Sox fans won’t use public transit is absurd. Regardless, I can assure that Sox have thought through all this and don’t think it’s a problem. -
That Bummer trade was truly foundational!

Nothing boring about a bunch of scrap-heap guys and/or former Royals!

Obviously very possible, but I think his legacy immediately becomes leaving boatloads of wealth to generations of future Reinsdorfs and he will likely take the best deal financially and not someone aligned with views & approach. -

That’s an interesting question. Honestly, with how iconic our logo already is I’d lean towards no, but I could see them doing some outside the box stuff to really inject new life into the brand & image of the team. -
It will 100% happen and likely within the next three weeks. Want to do an old fashioned Ron-style ban bet on this?

The way I see it a new “best in class” stadium + a new “anyone but a Reinsdorf” ownership = a complete transformation for the franchise. This is such a no-brainer move for the Sox and we’re truly lucky this plot of land is even available and actually attainable for us. Get this s%*# done so Sox fans can actually dream of a promising future for the next generation of fans. -

An ownership change is coming, it’s just a matter of when. But even without one, a new stadium would have a real impact on long-term attendance. The people who visit downtown Chicago in the summer would have another stop on their agenda given its premium location. And that’s especially true if the leaked renderings and rumors of being closer to the action reflect any sort of truth, as those suggest a ballpark that would be amongst the best in sports. -

Emptiness around the park or emptiness within the park?
