Dodgers interested in Robert, Crochet, Pham
I know some people think protection doesn’t matter, but it’s hard to argue that the disaster of an offense surrounding hasn’t impacted him.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
I know you’re mostly joking, but it sounds like they are calling up Locklear

Moncada and Clevinger "returned from rehab assignments"
Doesn’t this just mean whether they go on the active roster or return to the IL?

White Sox sign...
That leaves $900k above slot for our remaining three picks. Got to imagine gets at least $600k of that amount.

Who doesn’t like Seattle’s system?

We’re eight days from the deadline…I’m sure a few more will enter but a few bubble teams seem to be leaning towards buying now.

I think he’s gone before the deadline. We have seen a pretty big change in the way teams value prospects and I feel like it takes both a legit playoff race and the limited supply that comes with the trade deadline to get many GMs to go outside their comfort zone. Right now, there are a ton of potential buyers and very few sellers that potentially creates a very favorable environment to move Robert. And I’m not sure that the buyer pool will be radically different come this offseason, but the sense of urgency to trade a ton of prospects for Robert could very well be less. I think you sell now if you can get 90% of fair value.

Dodgers interested in Robert, Crochet, Pham
Maybe, but they are still tied for the division lead and are only 2.5 games out of the Wild Card. I can’t see them wasting a year of this pitching staff when they have a loaded farm system they can tap into to get offensive reinforcements.

He’s doing NBA Summer League games over MLB games? Was he already committed to these when hired?

I don’t see how the Mariners don’t ultimately trade for Robert.

How do you feel about those three selections and the price we paid for them?

7/21- Sox at Royals, 1:10
Wow…would be huge for us

If my math is right, we have $1.1M over slot for our first four picks.

Part of the reason to fire Grifol and give Sizemore the reigns. No manager can overcome this lack of talent, but a different voice might be able to get the best out of it. There is literally downside of firing Grifol and putting an existing coach in charge other Jerry having to a guy for doing nothing which we all know he hates.

Definitely didn’t help his trade value just now

Yup, if Getz botches these last few assets it will push the timeline back a couple years. Got to pray he hits an absolute HR over these next nine days and/or in the offseason.

Being a Sox fan is so bittersweet. On one hand, I truly believe in Bannister and feel like we could have a quality, home-grown rotation within two years behind Schultz, Smith, Thorpe, Cannon, and one of many other options. And while our bullpen is mostly garbage at the moment, I do think we have enough pitching depth in the minors to build a decent pen pretty quickly. While injuries could derail it all, there are legit reasons to be optimistic on this side of the ball. At the same time, I have little confidence in Getz, Barfield, & Watson to build an entire offense from basically scratch. Montgomery’s struggles against velocity are concerning and if he’s just a guy and not a star that creates a big roadblock for us. And just not a ton after him that you can feel super confident in at the moment other than Quero and to a lesser extent Baldwin. With our latest draft unlikely to provide help anytime soon, it really comes down to trades and free agency. If Getz can kill this trade deadline then the path to competitiveness suddenly becomes much easier, but it’s very hard to trust the evaluators who recommended giving up actual talent for guys like Fletcher & DeLoach. We should know a lot more nine days from now.

Isn’t the rookie threshold 50 innings?

Vaughn 100% needs to go after this season. Zero reason to commit more time on him at this point.

2024 - MLB Draft Thread
In theory each team should land 16 or 17. And I’m not going to lose sleep if we missed out on a couple guys in the 400’s in a weak draft, but I’m not a huge fan of what we did on day 2. Very little upside and not even one standout prospect IMO. Last year we had Keener & Wolkow as immediate top 30 prospects and the year before we had Cannon. McLain in particular was a very disappointing third round pick. I hope he proves me wrong and Shirley probably deserves the benefit of the doubt here, but I’m just not a fan of the tweener OF profile that high in the draft. Overall, it just doesn’t feel like we got $15M of talent across all three days and the lack of one more big overslot pick somewhere reinforces that.

It feels like one of the prep picks may have pushed for more money last second and put us in a bit of a bind. Yes, I get it was a weak draft, but day 2 felt like more of a fallback plan than it should have.

2024 - MLB Draft Thread
I fully get the don’t use one publication to evaluate a draft thinking, but only drafting 10 of the top 500 on BA’s list is not a great sign. Especially when it seems like several of our non senior selections on day 2 were mild reaches.

Phillies have shied away from Pham as an OF reinforcement per Bob.

Per Nightengale. What could a package look like there?

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
Latest update on Crochet from Bob: Also says the Tigers are talking to teams about Skubal, but that he’s unlikely to be trade (which is good for the Crochet & Fedde markets).
