  1. Hahn is running a BOGO special on minor league savages and all he wants in return is a semi-controllable starter and a LH reliever. Just wait, Frankie Montas + AJ Puk for Colson Montgomery, Oscar Colas, & Norge Vera is going to happen brother.
  2. Mods - Can we please temporarily ban Parkman until after the trade deadline, so we don’t have endure hot takes like “Vaughn won’t hit enough to be a 1B”?
  3. Defensive metrics aren’t usually predictive without a larger sample of data, so I’m not sure I’d automatically assume his plus RF defense has fallen off. Could just be a bad little stretch that has no bearing on future exceptions.
  4. Vaughn as primary DH and Pollock as the 4th OF who starts against LHP and fills in as needed. Odds of this group staying healthy is probably low, so not bad to have some additional depth.
  5. What’s interesting is seven of the guys I mentioned above were international signings. Paddy has done really well given the moral handcuffs he has to deal with.
  6. All because he strikes out a fuck-ton. I didn’t peg you as an only batting average matters type of guy.
  7. Ramos isn’t a middle infield prospect, although I guess there is a non-zero chance he can play some 2B. That being said, I’d go Ramos, Sosa, & then Rodriguez but it’s really damn close with the latter two. For reference, Baseball America has Ramos ranked #2, Rodriguez #3, and Sosa #8 in our mid-season rankings.
  8. Again to reiterate my previous point on Gallo vs RHP. 2019 to 2021 w/ TEX: 122 wRC+ Away splits w/ NYY: 123 wRC+ Home splits w/ NYY: 92 wRC+ Maybe playing in New York is a problem, maybe it’s not, but if the cost is a song I feel it’s a gamble worth taking. Additionally, let’s not ignore his 28 defensive runs saved in RF since 2019, which 4th overall amongst RFs and even more impressive on a per innings basis. He’s far from a perfect player even when things are going right, but we desperately need power from the LH side and better defense in RF and he might be able to address both on the cheap.
  9. Davis Martin has definitely be a pleasant surprise this year on the pitching side.
  10. And then Tony will play Leury over him in RF and bat him lead off for good measure ?
  11. Why the hell are we talking about the Cubs potential off-season plans in a trade deadline thread? Let’s worry about our own problems.
  12. Then you won’t find trade partners
  13. Just get Gallo for a song if that’s the price for Happ.
  14. Because Sox fans hate the three true outcome approach he lives by and he does so to the very extreme.
  15. No doubt, but giving up a guy who can probably be a quality DH for the next six years and a fairly interesting arm for a dude who signed for $3M or so this off-season and wouldn’t have a role in a playoff rotation is the definition of insanity and further reflection of Hahn’s failures this off-season.
  16. That would be an atrocious trade for two months of Quintana IMO.
  17. Yankees gave up their #13, #23, & #29 prospects per BA’s midseason rankings. They also acquired a rental with limited track of success who is more or less limited to LF. Happ is a better, more versatile player with an extra year of cheap control, which means the Benintendi price isn’t comparable and our prospects in the 20 to 30 range aren’t nearly as valuable.
  18. So it’s very clear to me the farm system is still very bad and what looks like a solid draft isn’t going to magically change that. However, it’s definitely improving and I think we’re quickly moving away from the bottom. Here are a handful of reasons we should be optimistic: Colson’s Montgomery: Has put up a ~150 wRC+ across A ball this year as a 20 year old, is sporting a BB % higher than his K % in A+, and is now ranked #52 in BA’s top 100 Oscar Colas: Entered season in great shape flashing at least four plus tools; despite battling rust and a wrist injury, put up a 127 wRC+ in A+ and is currently destroying AA Lenyn Sosa: Breakout season in AA at 22 where he was arguably the league’s best hitter posting a 142 wRC+ with improved BB %, K %, and power (29 HR / 600 PA pace) Bryan Ramos: 20 year old starting to turn his plus bat speed & raw power into in-game power with a 26 HR / PA 600 pace; has also improved his K % while maintaining BB % Jose Rodriguez: Slow start to season as a 21 year old in AA, but has really picked it up over his last ~150 PAs posting a 127 wRC+ with improving K % while swiping 23 bases Carlos Perez: 25 year old catcher continues to flash unique offensive profile in AAA with high contact (8.5% K rate) and good power (28 HR / 600 PA) with improving BB % Yoelqui Cespedes: Has made major improvements in his BB % over his last 100 PAs, jumping from 2.6% to 13.9% without any change to K % and minimal decline in ISO Luis Mieses: 22 year old having solid season with 115 wRC+ and league leading 31 doubles in High A; flashing major league platoon OF potential with .880 OPS vs. RHP DJ Gladney: Significant improvement in repeat season at Low A increasing his wRC+ from 73 to 107 with improved K % and league leading 16 HRs (26 HR / 600 PA pace) That’s just nine positive developments and it only includes full season positional guys. I’m sure someone could add pitchers & rookie ball players and quickly find another dozen. I do think credit should be given to Barkett & Johansen as we are actually seeing young guys get better vs. stagnating and eventually flaming out. Hopefully Getz has finally fixed the hitting side of the player development function and we’ll see continued returns into the coming years.
  19. As one of the few “trade for Gallo” fans here, take a look at these splits vs RHP: Home: 11.8% BB rate, 31.2% K rate, .171 ISO, .204 BABIP, 76 wRC+ Away: 18.3% BB rate, 35.8% K rate, .270 ISO, .233 BABIP, 129 wRC+ If more impactful players can’t be acquired without decimating the farm system, I’d 100% take a chance on Gallo possibly returning to form by simply leaving NY. Dude is streaky as hell and if he can somehow get hot come October he could possibly carry the team. Assuming the cost is basically nothing, he’s definitely a guy I’d take gamble on.
  20. What type of players are you referring to? Craig Kimbrel was a much bigger get last deadline than Benintendi is this one.
  21. Not a prediction, but would love to try and pull off a three way trade with the Pirates and Brewers. Basically Vaughn to the Brewers for Chourio + another top prospect and then those two guys shipped to the Pirates along with a third Sox prospect for Reynolds. Anderson, SS Moncada, 3B# Abreu, 1B Reynolds, RF# Jimenez, DH Robert, CF Grandal, C# Pollock, LF Harrison, 2B That’s a legit lineup with much better OF defense.
  22. Kelly has been an absolutely, positively tremendous addition.
