Thanks for sharing! Who was the more highly regarded of the two?

But that’s the thing, it’s not the advanced metrics that are the problem but rather the application by some who take them as gospel. I use advanced metrics all the time, but accept the fact that most of them have their own flaws or limitations. That being said, I think it’s far more egregious to write off advanced metrics all together than to rely on them exclusively. Both will lead to narrow minded decision making, but the former completely ignores the objective, unbiased way of looking at things that make advanced metrics such a powerful tool.

Madrigal was coming off an injury though, I think they will be more aggressive with Vaughn.

Anyone see Far From Home? Have a question on the villian’s intentions.

In the depths of the minors, signs of progress
Chicago White Sox replied to bmags's topic in FutureSox Board
Thanks for putting this together @bmags. Really interesting group of bats down in the AZL. I really think the system is at interesting inflection point when it comes to talent acquisition vs development. IMO, we are actually seeing some legit young talent coming from the draft & LatAm (with issues that will need addressing) and this is the group that will really test Getz’s player development staff. If we don’t see a good chunk of the Kanny, Great Falls, & AZL guys make it to High A and/or AA eventually (and hopefully a couple beyond that) it will be clear our player development function is still a major problem. If we do, it may be proof that Getz has finally modernized our development function and provide hope for the future. -
Still not enough pitching to make a run at things even if those guys played up to their potential.

I’m so sick of this “TWTW” / anti “statnik” charade you put on. Me being objective about Jose’s value has nothing to do with me liking him or not. I said I’d bring him back on a two year deal in this very thread. I rock an authentic Jose Abreu jersey to all the games I go to. I think his value to clubhouse is tremendous. I’m a huge Jose fan at the end of the day. All that being said, comparing his offensive numbers to Machado to try to justify paying him more is without question poor logic. Positions matter and a good 1B should hit better than a 3B all else being equal. Ballparks matter and the Grate is a much more friendly stadium than Petco. And when it comes to handing out contracts, age matters because you are paying for future production. When combined, all these factors make Manny Machado a terrible comp for what Jose Abreu should get if extended. If you want to make a case for paying Jose more, you guys should be citing someone like Carlos Santana who got 3/$60M coming off a 115 wRC+ season as a 31 year old. However, that would require critical thinking and you & Vile would rather just be emotional and compare him to the young, “dick” 3B.

What kind of shit post is this? Bmags put together an awesome assessment of some of our AZL prospects and this is all you got? Hopefully this just sarcasm and I’m simply missing the boat. -
Outside of injury, I’d say it’s 90% likely Madrigal & Robert play for the Sox next year and probably 50/50 on Vaughn. And yes, trying to justify paying a 32 year old, poor defensive 1B who plays in an incredibly batter friendly ballpark more money by comparing his offensive numbers to that of a 26 year, plus defensive 3B who plays in a very batter unfriendly ballpark is poor logic.

Lol...you pretend to be a baseball fan and just asked if they do that “team option thing”.

Get us back in this game McCann!! -
As much I supported pushing Bush to Kanny this year, I’d be perfectly fine with having Gladney or any of our other AZL kids with swing & miss issues spend 2020 in extended / Great Falls.
-
He theoretically could have a higher batting average than BABIP if he hits enough bombs. Incredibly unlikely but technically possible given how little he’ll likely strike out.
-
DH slot will need to be filled.

Gotta disagree with pretty much this entire post. Calling this Abreu’s best year is simply wrong and you completely ignored the fact he’s always been a bad defensive 1B. And comparing Vaughn, one of the most polished college bats in recent memory, to Keon Barnum is perhaps one of the biggest stretches in SoxTalk history.

We only have him one more year.

I posted something similar a few weeks ago, but a more progressive organization would know how to tap into Reynaldo’s potential. Unfortunately he’s completely regressed this year under Cooper. -
I think Sheets is potentially worth more to us than other teams. His numbers weren’t very good in an offensive friendly High A environment and the lack of power continued into the start of this year. But he’s really picked it up as of late with a wRC+ of ~160 over his last 30 games (with a fairly normal BABIP). Given his 1B only profile, limited history of success, and our general lack of left-handed hitting, I’d really like to see how he responds to the juiced ball in AAA before I consider using him as a throw-in.

Ugly game for Moncada. Hopefully Abreu can make up for it here. -

Also, not sure how you think he raised his ERA but that’s besides the point. -

Does it sound like I’m defending him? That post is from this very thread. I was just pointing out that the people who were overreacting to every single hit Lopez gave are the same ones who typically overreact to everything. I wasn’t referring to you if that’s what you think. -
