Toronto (18-26) v. Chicago (21-23) - 5/19/19 - 1:10 PM

It would be nice if they would just end this charade that he was a baseball move. There are better, younger players who deserve those at-bats. -

100% agree. Let’s see what Mendick has to offer so we know if we’ll need a veteran stopgap next offseason. -

What’s all this hitting .300 stuff? I believe I missed the origins of this. -

Lopez needs to find a way to generate swinging strikes on a consistent basis. -

Must win game! -
The Sox will most certainly DFA Alonso before his option year would become guaranteed. I personally think they’re just waiting for Collins to be ready to take on a lot of DH at-bats (even if they don’t give up him completely at catcher).
-
Also, in terms of the Palka question, he is not an OF option as this point, full stop. And if we’re opening a spot at 1B or DH by DFAing Alonso, give the job to Collins who has a much better shot of being a long term fixture. Palka had his opportunity this year and completely fell on his face. He’ll need a lot of injuries or trades to re-enter the mix IMO.

I agree on the first part, but we’re definitely adding a veteran starter in the offseason and I’d prefer someone with more youth / upside than Kuechel. Give me Cole (very unlikely) or Wheeler (more likely) and I think on paper we got a rotation that could be very good in the near future. Wheeler, Giolito, Cease, Kopech, & Lopez with Lambert in AAA and eventually Dunning in the mix might be good enough next year if we can fill a couple holes on offense. Probably need one more depth option while Dunning is on the mend (assuming that Banuelos continues to struggle), but I think that shouldn’t be too hard to pull off.

Yeah, it’s pretty crazy how they did a 180 in that regard. For some reason we can never a normal balanced approach to things and it’s always one extreme to the next with this organization.

Why is McClure still in Low A? Getz is infuriating with how conservative he can be with his assignments.

Rainy Day Poll: Evaluate the Big 3 Trades
Chicago White Sox replied to gusguyman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think the Sale trade provides the most value, but we also gave up our best chip in the process. To me, the best trade right now is the Quintana trade but it’s entirely possible that Eaton deal looks like a complete steal in a couple years if Giolito keeps this up. Not to go negative here and derail the thread, but the returns of these trades make it that much more frustrating that we haven’t been able to supplement all these pieces via the draft. This rebuild would be looking pretty good if we were even semi competent with our drafting. -
Who the fucks cares? Right now, both guys are on pace to be 4+ win players this year. What the hell have all our polished college picks done to help the cause exactly?
-
Three athletic superfreaks. I agree with you bmags, if the player development sucks, it might not be a bad idea to gamble on guys who have so much talent that they might be able to overcome it on their own. That’s not to say we should pass on Vaughn, I just think this idea we shouldn’t draft a young, athletic HS kid because Courtney Hawkins was a bust is ridiculous.
-
Totally agree. All else being equal, I feel like the system desperately needs more athleticism / high ceiling prospects and that’s exactly what Abrams provides. Vaughn is a hell of a 1B prospect, but taking him feels like it would be more geared around trying to win ASAP whether that actually has anything to do with it. I just hope Hostetler goes BPA and doesn’t let team need / proximity to the majors impact his decision.
-
Assuming Adley & Witt go #1 & #2, I’ll be fine with either Vaughn or Abrams. It’s really a total toss-up between the two of them IMO. Regardless, it’s an absolutely critical pick as we hopefully won’t be drafting in the top five for quite some time.

Who has watched him consistently enough to make that statement?
-
At this point you’re straight trolling. Tanking for another 2-3 years would be beyond idiotic.
-
He’s 26 and can’t play a position?

Yup. He was such a stupid addition, Hahn should be absolutely embarrassed for actually trading for him.
