  1. In what world is that not a #1 starter?
  2. Remember when Parkman jumped ship a few weeks back?
  3. WSI

Same...have spent very little time even skimming through WSI.
  4. Yup, Hahn should have built a time machine so he could of had the benefit of hindsight prior to making the move...
  5. I’m worried that his FIP turns into a 5.5 figure or worse next year. The slightest bit of stuff deterioration and Nova is a pumpkin IMO. A team in our position next year should be shooting for a more high variance guy that actually offers some upside.
  6. They are having worse seasons <> not mean they will be worse next year. As for Smyly, he’s three years younger than Nova and should hopefully be recovered from TJS next year. They’re all question marks, but I’d rather gamble on the four guys I mentioned (especially Wood) than bank on a 33 year old who is currently posting ~ 5k/9 & a ~5.00 FIP remaining “productive” next year.
  7. I think he gets close to 7/$200M if Patrick Corbin got 6/$140M with his red flags.
  8. The free agent class is very deep with starting pitching, so I just don’t see the desire to bring back a 33 year old dude who gets by on smoke & mirrors. Based on Hahn’s comments during that recent podcast, it’s very clear that Kopech will be starting 2020 in AAA. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they kept him down until June in order to regain a lost year of control. If so, they can easily sell one of several free agent starters who will probably have to take a pillow contract (like Wood, Wacha, Smyly, or Chacin) that a full time role will be open this season. Yes, that means someone may have to be moved to the bullpen when Kopech comes up, but you plan around at least one guy missing time with injury and basically rolling through six starters. After that, Rodon should be available at some point to take some innings from Cease or Kopech down the stretch. So basically my point is the following: Sign one of Cole, Strasberg, Wheeler, Bumgarner, Ryu Sign one of Wood, Wacha, Smyly, Chacin Unless all those secondary guys reject your pursuits, do NOT bring Nova back.
  9. Adolfo 4/4 for the AZL Sox with a HR & 2B. I think he’s ready for a bump to a full season affiliate.
  10. Wat in da fuk...
  11. You are absolutely nuts bro if you actually believe that.
  12. What are you taking about? Hamels, Gibson, Keuchel, Odorizzi, Roark, Wood, Pineda, Porcello, Miley, & Gonzalez are all better and I’d much rather roll the dice on Wacha, Smyly, & maybe even Chacin than Nova next year.
  13. I’d rather give someone like Wacha who offers some semblance of upside a few million more on a bounce back deal. He could start next year in the rotation and be in the mix for an extended rotation spot with strong performance and/or an injury to another starter.
  14. And I’m fine with that at the right price & years, I just hope they don’t misuse him next year. Ricky doesn’t provide me with a lot of hope there.
  15. Sure, but why are those the only options?
  16. At the very least we should try to add one of those players before settling on Nova. We couldn’t even get a solid lottery ticket for him two weeks ago, there isn’t going to be a massive market for a guy who doesn’t strike anyone out in the juiced ball era.
  17. While Abreu’s game is definitely starting to slow down, it seems his immediate demise was vastly overstated around here. IMO, he can still be a solid piece for the next season or two if used correctly (DHing more than 1B, resting against tough RHPs, not automatically the 3/4 hole hitter).
  18. He’s 33 years old and should theoretically be getting worse each and every year. We definitely need pitching depth, but let’s aim a bit higher than a scrap heap innings eater.
  19. I just don’t get it, during this “hot streak” since the break he’s struck out a whopping 4.3 batters per nine with a very flukey HR rate leading to an xFIP over 5.00. Given he’ll be 33 in January, we should explore every and all alternatives before even thinking of settling for him.
  20. We should hurry up and sign Nova to an extension before he prices himself out of our range!!
  21. I’m sorry, but is that suggesting our OPS out of the DH slot this year is .572?
  22. Any potential names of interest? The only ones that kind of make sense to me off the top of my head that wouldn’t automatically require an untouchable are Nimmo, Polanco, & Mazara.
  23. Cole is getting $200M+, so much more than a third of what Machado is getting.
  24. I just don’t think any of this sustainable. He’s literally striking no one out. That won’t lead to success in the long-run. And as someone else pointed out, we couldn’t even get a lottery ticket for him two weeks ago. We shouldn’t be buying into the smoke & mirrors driving his success right now.
