Kenny purged 2011 pieces just in time
Cespedes will continue to punish mistakes all year, but good pitchers will figure out pretty quickly (or already have) that you probably shouldn't throw fastballs low in the zone to him, since he tends to hit those about 460 feet. I will go ahead and say Viciedo has a pretty good shot at being a better hitter than the pig roaster this season. Also lets not congratulate Kenny too fast here, we still gotta see what Castro, Molina and Hernandez can do.

Peavy starting today
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) Nice to see you in here. I have absolutely no expectations for the squad this year, and to be honest, if they win 65 games but Beckham/Morel/Viciedo/Sale perform at a solid level, I won't consider the season a bust. If those guys perform at a solid level, they won't lose 65 games.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
Rios is earning 12.5M a year and not 21M, which means a return to a ~3WAR player would make him worth his salary. Also, since when does Morel have below average range? This is a major problem with ESPN in particular and sports writing sites in general - there's always this notion that they have to make the facts fit the narrative they're pushing.

Jim Bowden gives Offseason grades
Most of the expert pieces ive read acknowledge that CQ is not a special player and the return for him was never going to be great. Bowden seems to think he's a critical piece or something. Santos hurt but most of the talk has focused on how Molina is a soft prospect with low upside which doesn't seem consistent with what i've read about him. Really KW boned himself before this offseason even started so based on that i'd probably give him like a C.

Jim Bowden gives Offseason grades
Pretty sure Bowden wanted Danks traded so he probably considers his extension a net negative. Dude has been really backward and incorrect in basically every piece i've read. He is hardly the only puzzled by the Santos trade and CQ is basically a 1.5-2 WAR player AT BEST who is making a lot of money. THOSE ARE DEFINITELY GUYS YOU WANT ON YOUR TEAM (JIM BOWDEN 2012)

Jim Bowden gives Offseason grades
We could probably just merge all the expert analysis into one thread and call it ZOMG 2012 IS GUNNA SUX I could also get a cheap burn against Bowden here but why bother.

A Lot for White Sox to Overcome
It is remarkably hard to factually prove that someone was rushed but I would say Beckham's performance the last couple years probably indicates he was rushed.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
FWIW, the Sox are "winning" that poll. For all the jabba about how they are one of the worst teams in the MLB, they still have enough pitching to finish in the middle of the pack. Of course, this is Fox Sports...

Worse Public Bathroom
The wife and I went with a buddy to an OTC show in Athens. On the way back to Atlanta, they were feeling a bit peckish at 2am. So what else is open but... Waffle House! I did not share their enthusiasm for hash browns all the way, but to get into the spirit of the evening I ordered a piece of pecan pie. One bite and I knew this was a mistake. The butter and grease coming off this thing would choke a mule and I was already a bit tweaked in the gut (5 or 6 PBRs) but I soldiered on because I don't know why. About halfway through I knew I was gonna get the mudbutt and quickly excused myself. But of course, since this was Waffle House at 2:30am, one toilet was out-of-order and the other had a short line. If I had known what waited, I would have just sat right back down and clenched. Once it was my turn I gingerly shuffled in and locked the door and... well, someone had basically just missed. There was a huge pool of urine and toilet paper (maybe used, I didn't want to think about it) right in front of the bowl. This would be alright if I just had to pee, but that was not the case. After laying 3 layers of TP cover on the seat (a man takes no chances with Awful House) I managed to seat myself sideways, avoiding the sewage while I did my business. Returning to my seat I just had to laugh and tell them what had just transpired. They didn't believe me. When I got home I had mudbutt again (that pie) but in the comfort of my own throne it somehow seemed alright. Runner up would be the portajohns at the Pitchfork festival.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 27, 2012 -> 07:49 PM) Larry Dobrow has his Power Rankings out today. Sox at 25 right now. We should be so lucky. I'd probably put the Sox at 18-20 or so. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/story/1700912...on-out-in-style There's also the choice bit about Nestor Molina being a "fluffballer".

What is left to do this off season?
Thornton might not be movable with his large contract. Let him have a great season and move him if a market develops. Right now he won't get much return. Concepcion is certainly intriguing, as are some other IFA. Get while the getting is good.

What is left to do this off season?
1. Get solid prospects for Gavin. There is a market for him. 2. Sign Soler 3. Scout, scout scout! This org needs to start drafting better.

The Hawk speaks
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 11:52 AM) Right. Because I am sure you publicly go out and slam your company to the general public. That isn't what is happening though. This is more like calling out employees for bad behavior or saying that certain problems were caused by one person who was sacked. The company is still fundamentally right and will be ok.

Guys im sorry im just really negative and on the brink of insanity from lack of baseball and nothing i've seen this offseason or the three seasons previous has given me any faith that this team is going to get any better. Ill be watching, though, just like everyone else here.
