  1. He isn't worth it but he might get it. 6/120 seems like the ceiling of what he'd get, with 6/110 or 5/100 seeming more likely. He's the best non-Lee FA on the market and is a big asset.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 10:40 PM) Us: Carl, we offer you 5 years at $60 million. Carl: No Us: Oh well, we tried Even if KW offered him what Toriiiii got he'd be laughed at. Angels and Tigers have the most need (and $$$) but its hard to count the Yankees out of any top FA chase.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) I dunno...one of these years the Sox are going to decide to boost payroll. They've been sitting right around $95-$98 million for the past 5 years. They've dealt with declining attendance and the economic problems over that time, but league revenue sharing dollars have gone up, and the value of lots of ad contracts probably go up as well. I could see a salary boost as being possible one of these years. The problem is...even if they decide to boost the salary, they're just not outbidding the Yankees. 2008 - 121 mil if I recalled. Realistically with our minor league system the way it is, payroll will have to increase if the Sox want to compete. There's no way they get Crawford but Adam Dunn might be a nice consolation prize. I guess he is going to be type B so he wont even cost a first rounder.
  4. I'm not sure the Twin's have that much cash to throw around, what with Mauer getting rich and half the roster reaching arb.
  5. Ive established an order that i'm sticking to. Rangers Rays Twins Yankees I'll be skinned alive before I root for the Yankees.
  6. isn't Harrell making Freddy's starts? He can't really do both.
  7. He'll be too expensive to be a LR guy. He will start in some capacity next season. Torres or Harrell will probably be the last pen guy in 2011. God willing, Pena will be non-tendered.
  8. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) Who else thinks Andy Wilkins will be jumped to W-S to start 2011? Who else would fill that spot? Gac has earned a promotion but he's not really a prospect at this point. I def. could see Wilkins on the Dash to start the season.
  9. Morel at 3rd, since he might have a future there. Dayan 1B/DH some days. Flowers catching 2 times a week. It won't happen, since Oz has said he won't play the kids, but im sure most of us think it should.
  10. It is Ozzie's fault for giving away outs like candy and for putting games out of reach with some baffling pitching decisions. I don't think he should be canned but this is really a tandem effort and I wouldn't cry to see both them gone. If only as some sign of accountability.
  11. Just want to chime in that although I don't usually buy into a lot of intangibles talk, it's really frustrating to see a good team wet their pants so bad against any rival, let alone a divisional one. Main reason i'd call for major changes this offseason... Twins are in these guys heads. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it every game of every series with Minny.
  12. He has time on his side. I think he certainly CAN be a very good hitter, although I doubt he is ever much of a fielder. Counting on him in 2011 is probably a bit hasty though.
  13. The Tigers are going to get at least one of Lee, Werth, Crawford, and Dunn.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 12:31 AM) I don't think he can stick at third. 1B is an option. Yeah, DH would definitely be disappointing. And he'll have to learn to take a walk every now and then. But the offensive potential is legitimate. Right now Viciedo has contact and power but no patience or defensive position. He has a long way to go before he is a productive, every day MLB player.
  15. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 12:28 AM) Pretty sure the Tigers won't be spending. So you don't think the team with one of the richest owners, who has spent loads of cash in the last half of the decade, will spend money on his team that has a top 5 payroll, loads of newly available space and lots of holes to fill?
  16. The Sox have done better on that front lately, although the 2010 haul was a bit of a disappointment. If you look at a team like Boston, they rarely have high draft position, but they manage to build a solid farm because they are always willing to pay for the right player. The Sox MO for the last decade has been mid-to-low draft placement but no money for anyone. You can't build a solid farm without spending the cash, and that has always been a weakness of the current regime.
  17. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) Sometimes that's what it takes. It's more excusable than high priced mediocrity. But the farm aint so good either from what I've heard. Coming into the season the Indians had a top 5 farm system and were expected by many to be an average team with lots of young breakout talent. That didn't happen, and now they look mired in a mess of low attendance and underachieving youth. Rebuilding doesn't work if you don't have a smart, future-oriented FO (as well as a lot of luck). The Rays win because they had loads of high draft positions and a smart, analytical FO making moves when necessary.
  18. The model I personally hope changes is that JR and KW realize that the days where they could field an 82-86 win team on paper and hope for some career years is behind them. The Twins are a major player and they will have to spend and make smarter personnel decisions to even compete with them. You can bet that the Tigers, who have some 60mil or so coming off the books, will spend a lot this season to get competitive with the Twins. Will the Sox FO really be content to field another 100mil 3rd place team?
  19. Trust me, you don't want the Sox to win 60 games next year.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) Rios, Thornton, Manny all really sucked tonight. Will Manny have an RBI or extra base hit in a White Sox uniform by the time he decides to call it a season? He's already called it a season. KW took a gamble and lost.
  21. So does that cement that the Sox will try and get a kings ransom for Danks this offseason?
  22. No, no, no, no. All of them would accept arb because they would earn more than they'd get on the market. Jenks will probably be non-tendered.
