BIG PELF TO THE RESCUE!!! July 27th Game Thread: White Sox
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) Hypothetical: Pelfrey gets into the 5th inning with the game close. You're the manager. The Cubs lineup turns over and starts its 3rd time through. Pelfrey gives up a hit to the leadoff man. Who do you trust more...Mike Pelfrey the 3rd time through the order or the current White Sox bullpen? And no, Death is not an option. I wish Leury was here, he could probably pitch setup with this roster.

Reverse Standings Thread
Considering the roster is now mostly kids, has-beens and never-was's, something would have to go very right for the Sox to not get a top 3 draft pick. The kids would really have to play dynamite baseball. It also doesn't seem like the Giants are blowing it up, and the Phillies have little to sell, so the Tank Sox could certainly own the second half by getting completely owned.

Pitchface: The window to the soul
Kissyface Rey is really good, but really its all about Hansen's screamface. He's got the fuerza, the pasión.

7/25 Games
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:42 PM) Dedelow a single away from a cycle in the 4th inning. His carrying tool was always going to be power, but he's been very impressive, even if it is Great Falls. Gotta see how he handles Kanny.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
Yeah I was thinking Brett Phillips or Isan Diaz, who has seen his stock tumble this season, but I doubt it will be anything that good.

Moncada being called up
QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:18 PM) http://m.milb.com/milb/player/660162#nav_splits .216 BA vs. LHP. .236 BA, with a sub-.700 OPS away from The Charlotte Bandbox Burning service time on a crap team, when he hasn't conclusively vanquished AAA. I'll say it: I hate this call up. I'll be happy to be wrong, but white sox are gonna white sox this kid up. So going from one bandbox to another. He clearly has work to do but lets not pretend he doesn't have the talent to do it at the highest level.

Sox send Frazier/DRob/Kahnle to NY ~ Rutherford/Clarkin/Clippard/Polo
Hell yeah, love me some Rutherford. We need infielders tho.

Sox send Frazier/DRob/Kahnle to NY ~ Rutherford/Clarkin/Clippard/Polo
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 06:00 PM) I figured maybe with the background issues it was possible. And it isn't Chavis...yet... I don't want Travis. Btw, Frazier had some comments this afternoon about wanting this just to be over. I wonder if he freaked out a bit more behind closed doors. Maybe he cut up his uniform.

Frazier to Boston Rumors getting heavy
HMMMMM Rick probably called Ricky and told him "There's a chance something gets done, be on alert" and Ricky pulled back the lineup card waiting for the go, but it took longer than expected.
-
Robertson deal close?
Ehhh I think Florial or Mateo is probably the best we can do from the Yankees. Maybe a Frazier + Robertson package to the Red Sox would get Chavis + a lower prospect. The Doolittle/Madson trade is a real headscratcher and it makes me question whether there's much of a bullpen market right now.

Q may get moved "sooner than you think"
QUOTE (Enscheff @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) Braves fan here checking in to see perspectives from the other side of this madness. Knowledgeable Braves fans over at ChopCountry.com seem to realize Q's surplus value is in the $70M+ range, plus whatever contender's premium the acquiring team is willing to pay. Based on the consensus mid-season rankings and this surplus valuation of top prospects:http://www.thepointofpittsburgh.com/mlb-pr...pdated-edition/ I would currently value the Braves top handful of guys as: Acuna - $70M Albies - $55M Allard/Soroka/Newk/Wright - $35M Maitan - $25M Anderson - $20M Gohara - $15M Pache - $15M Nobody with half a clue wants to see the Braves give up any of the top position prospects (excepting Pache), and I personally think the Braves value Wright above all the other pitchers. That leaves a package centered around Allard and/or Soroka. Each of them only represents about half of Q's surplus value, so there would have to be (several) significant pieces added. The biggest issue most knowledgeable Braves fans have with a possible Q acquisition is the timing. We all saw how dumb it was for Coppy to hold onto Teheran through the rebuild while his most valuable years were wasted on a losing team, and we don't want to see the Braves pay a premium for Q now in a non-competitive season. Losing teams simply should not be making "win now" moves. If the Braves are going to cash in prospect chips for a SP, I would prefer to see them wait until next trade deadline (if they are competitive), and go for Archer or whichever other TOR is available. If I were a Sox fan, I would NOT be happy with a Q return that consists of mainly pitching, but that's likely what you will see form the Braves. Personally, I think Hahn is using the Braves as leverage to get the Yanks or Astros to cough up an elite position prospect. Very good analysis. I hope for Sox fans' sake you are correct.

I love Brinson, but if he's coming, then the secondary pieces will probably be underwhelming.

My Trade Deadline Plan
This is what I cam up with the other week and it hold up, I think: Todd Frazier to LAA for SS Nonie Williams and LHP Jose Suarez David Robertson to Rangers for 1B Ronald Guzman and IF Yanio Perez Kahnle to Nationals for SS Carter Kieboom and LHP Tyler Watson Jose Quintana to NYY for Clint Frazier, Andujar, Florial Derek Holland to Orioles for who cares Anthony Swarzak to Seattle Mariners for 3B Joe Rizzo

Quintana
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) 100% it is Jose Quintana. 100%. They could potentially lose 3/5 of their rotation to FA after this year, and they don't have enough prospects to fill those spots. They might be able to fake it with Adams and Cessa joining Severino and Montgomery in the rotation, but if they want to compete, that seems foolish. They also want to get under the luxury tax threshold, which is really hard to do if you're paying for two or more FA starters.

Quintana
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) This is the bottom line. This is also why I don't see the Astros as a realistic landing spot.

Quintana
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 9, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) For one, he is not mediocre, but he has been this year. #2, his ERA is mid-4. Yes. Not great. Lastly, yes, "1.3!" That's 42nd in baseball. Not outstanding. Jesus, it's like I'm supposed to assume every Sock can net every team's 3 best prospects. Little nitpick, but his ERA is 4.49. You're looking at his FIP. Anyways, I was being obtuse because I think the information you presented is pretty misleading. Pint has loads of upside, but has struggled badly this season. Much worse struggles than Q, even. Castellini is certainly an intriguing player, comparable maybe to Dunning or Hansen. That's a weak headliner (guys like Pint flame out all the time) and a solid second piece. Murphy is not really worth mentioning. He's like Davidson if he was a bad catcher instead of a bad 3B. Meanwhile, Q has had a down season, but still the #20 pitcher in baseball by fWAR. Nothing is really concerning about his performance except an uptick in walks. He's been basically the same pitcher. He has more value than you think.

Quintana should be kept
After Moncada graduates, the Sox farm system is pretty middling. The pitching side is ok, but the positional talent is thin. They definitely need to make more trades so they have multiple legit prospects at each position, and Q is the best piece they have to get high upside talent. He must be traded.

Quintana
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 9, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) Because the Sox won't trade him inside of the ALC and the Orioles stink I don't understand - if the return is the #2, #3 and #6 prospect, all for that mediocre starter you mentioned, wouldn't the Sox jump at the opportunity to make that trade? After all, he has a mid 4's ERA and a WHIP of 1.3. 1.3!
