Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Please no San Diego for otani. That is such a boring franchise, I forget they exist most of the time. Great city that can’t create a memorable sports team to save its life. Counterpoint - If Ohtani truly wants to be "the guy", I can think of no better franchise than the Padres, with no established stars, a few good players, and a boatload of high upside minor league talent.

Aaron Boone, Yankees Manager
Shoulda been Hensley.

Welington Castillo to White Sox
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:28 PM) I'm not really sure what it signifies but it's a good signing. Led AL in throwing out runners last year and dramatically improved his framing ability and he's a good defender too. Hit 20 homers in 365 plate appearances as well. 113 wRC+, .344 wOBA, .208 ISO. Nice signing. One thing it seems to signify is they don't anticipate Collins forcing his way into the team anytime soon.

Current personal White Sox T30 prospects
I'll take a crack at this, with two caveats: 1. I think everyone's top 5 is going to look more or less the same 2. Past those 5 guys, there isn't a whole lot that I like (based more on results than upside) The farm is clearly in the best shape its been in years, but I think we're still a step back from the Yankees, Braves (post scandal) or Padres. Hopefully the depth improves to offset the misery of losses piling up. 1. Eloy Jimenez 2. Michael Kopech 3. Alec Hansen 4. Luis Robert 5. Dylan Cease 6. Blake Rutherford 7. Jake Burger 8. Dane Dunning 9. Zack Collins 10. Zack Burdi 11. Spencer Adams 12. Carson Fulmer 13. Micker Adolfo 14. Jordan Stephens 15. Casey Gillaspie 16. Ryan Cordell 17. Gavin Sheets 18. Luis Alexander Basabe 19. Jordan Guerrero 20. Alex Call 21. Bernardo Flores 22. Seby Zavala 23. Tito Polo 24. Luis Gonzalez 25. Ian Clarkin 26. AJ Puckett 27. Felix Mercedes 28. Kade Mcclure 29. The Glass Man, Charlie Tilson 30. Thyago Viera Just missed - The much discussed Jameson Fisher, Lenyn Sosa, Evan Skoug, Luis Curbelo, Jake Peter

2018 Hall of Fame ballots out today.
Bonds, Clemens, Thome, Ch. Jones, Martinez, Guerrero, Sheffield, Schilling, Mussina, Hoffman Rolen and Andruw are really close though. Stacked ballot. I think Manny gets in eventually.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
Ryon Healy to Mariners from A's for a reliever and a prospect. Guy is like a somewhat better version of Davidson, but it's still a weird trade for the A's to make.

Sox Claim OF/1B Daniel Palka From Twins
I'm not sure they explicitly said "he's not in our plans" but I have to think that if an extension can't be worked out this offseason, they will look to move on from Abreu. He and Avi don't fit the window at this point - that could change, obv. Palka could also be Avi insurance.

Plenty of cash to spend but I don't think the Sox get too crazy. Rotation - Shields/Garcia/Giolito/Lopez/Fulmer or waiver claim, and when Rodon is ready, slot him in. BP - Nate Jones / Neshek / Alburquerque / Farquhar / Infante / Edgin /Whoever else shows up C Narvaez / Rivera 1B Abreu / Davidson 2B Moncada / Sanchez SS Anderson / Sanchez / L Garcia 3B Sanchez / Davidson LF Granderson CF - One of Cordell / Tillson / Engel RF Avi DH Delmonico / Davidson Could probably use another IF but sure, why not. If that crew can win ~75 or more games, start spending.

Our Next Manager?
The only teams left are Philly and NY. So I guess, for now, its Philly or bust.

Giancarlo Stanton traded to Yankees
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 27, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) He's going to look really good playing for the Giants. The Giants strike me as the team to bid against themselves for JD Martinez and end up paying him like, 6/110.

Our Next Manager?
So Dave Martinez to Nats. Remember when we all wanted him to replace Ozzie? Seems so long ago. Not sure where Girardi ends up now. Some team that underachieves in 2018, or a team that fires their manager to bring him in? Angels? Cardinals?

Our Next Manager?
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 27, 2017 -> 09:23 PM) The Nat's would be a good fit for Girardi and , IMHO, would be an upgrade over Dusty or at least bring something different to the clubhouse in DC. I know the Nat's just interviewed Farrell but now that Girardi is available, I would think he'll interview soon. Not sure why but I think Farrell would be a good fit for a young team like the Phillies. From what i've read, the problem with Girardi to Nats is mostly the cost. The Lerners have a tendency to be penny-wise but pound-foolish. Girardi might have to take a year off like Tito, but he'll find the right opening pretty soon.

Reverse Standings Thread
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Reds win. That means we get the 4th pick, right? Yup. The only possible outcome that led to us getting that pick. Good way to end things.

Hell yeah gimme that 4th pick

2018 MLB Draft
I can see Kelenic at 5 as realistic. I would be very ok with that pick.

Giolito named starter for Tuesday
Rodon / Fulmer Monday, Giolito Tues. Seems to confirm he is sticking with the team.

Your 2018 Chicago White Sox Opening Day Lineup
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) Don't forget Tito Polo he could see some time next year as well if he can handle AAA. The bullpen should be complete trash again. The rotation should be improving and getting younger though. My pick for a surprise impact performer next year is either Polo or Cordell. And Kopech on the pitching side (but that's not really going out on a limb). It's worth thinking about what the bullpen is going to look like next year - that does seem to be the one place where the Sox could bring in a lot of FA help. Most of the guys they have now are not MLB-caliber pitchers. Probably more potential variance there than in the lineup.

Your 2018 Chicago White Sox Opening Day Lineup
There's an awful lot of mediocre-to-bad outfield options to shake out, so I don't think we'll know for sure until after ST. Leury should start, unless he's traded, and i'm kind of working under the assumption that Avi will be traded. That gives us Engel, Cordell, Tilson, Willy Garcia, possibly Hanson, as well as any FA that are brought in (wouldn't mind a Granderson signing myself) to fill two spots. The IF is a bit more settled, with Davidson, Anderson, Moncada and Abreu presumably returning. Catcher is a wild card, but I guess it's Narvaez by default. Rodon will start, barring injury.

Giolito named starter for Tuesday
He hasn't been as good as Lopez, but he has likely been better than the starters we've got, so yeah, bring him up. Prepare to be frustrated.
-
Covey to be recalled
Figured. We'll see Giolito in September i'm sure.

Royals at Sox Game 2
Shields is becoming the Three True Outcomes pitcher.

Sox vs Sawks
I can't picture the Sox giving Shields more than a handful of starts next year before they cut bait. He's done as an MLB starter.
