  1. Slow thread. I'm not surprised, given that Hector Santiago has, like, a .41 ERA against the Sox.
  2. This may have been pointed out already, but reports of Adam Engel's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Up to .213 .304 .427 on the season, strikeout rate ~25%, walk rate at ~11%. He may be Drew Stubbs Jr yet.
  3. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 9, 2017 -> 06:54 AM) Trouble is, the more Melky and Frazier play, the less value they have. Robertson is another story. He has some value and is tradable. The other two,......you probably can't give them away right now. Frazier and Melky might be more waiver trade guys. That's fine - aside from Delmonico, there isn't anyone in Charlotte hitting their way to Chicago, and the Sox can always ditch Asche. The July deadline trades will almost certainly be all pitching. Aside from Robertson, who could go any day, really, I don't expect action to pick up until late June.
  4. I dunno what the Sox brass thinking is, but Giolito may need some time in B'ham.
  5. It's Bruce Levine. 'nuff said.
  6. Looks like K-Rod and F-Rod are both shot. Matt Albers and Enny Romero aren't getting it done. Rick, you got some work to do.
  7. All i'm saying is, there's 130 games left in the season and the Sox have limited positional depth. I wouldn't be in a hurry to expose Davidson. Avi is looking more like Avi lately.
  8. QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 7, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) Yes. Thanks for adding that I mean, you say that now, but based on past performance, Davidson could easily be in Asche's position. They're both fringe major leaguers, one had a hot streak and the other a cold streak.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ May 7, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) So, Anderson is the #2 guy and Quintana is the last one, but who is seemingly dead? Rodon Q always walked a fine line - we may just be witnessing the beginning of the end.
  10. Still pretty early on Q, but he hasn't looked right in any of his starts, aside from dominating a bad Royals team. He probably gets moved in the offseason for one top 50 guy and some scraps.
  11. Covey starts until Shields or Rodon comes back. Holland and MiGo are probably traded around the AS break. Fulmer and Lopez get the call at some point. Danish, Giolito spend the entire season at Charlotte. At some point, with all those moving parts, Covey shifts to long relief. Next year, he goes to Charlotte as depth. Need to be flexible now, not time to worry about wins. Why not piggyback Beck and Covey until one of the established guys is healthy?
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ May 6, 2017 -> 11:25 PM) Adolfo has, thus far, reduced his K-rate very substantially. It's still high and will have to drop at least a bit more, but to my mind it is perhaps the hardest thing to ask a player to do—move up in level and reduce your K%. It shows his development and some fortitude that he's been able to do it. See Courtney Hawkins for an example of someone who may have been ruined by an early experience of being overmatched. I don't see any progress there, really. Walking and striking out less, but buoyed by a ~.400 BABIP, and with few XBH. ~50% ground balls and very few LD (14%). Skeptical for now.
  13. I'm all about converting Hawkins to pitching, ala Louie Lechich. At this point, that is probably the only way they could possibly get anything out of him.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ May 6, 2017 -> 07:11 PM) Don't think he has it in him. He'll be gone after tonight, and an arm will be added tomorrow. I'm not sure there's anyone else to bring up. I guess they could try Danish, but he just had his worst start of the season.
  15. QUOTE (Scoots @ May 5, 2017 -> 08:22 PM) They just look lost at the plate. Soft hits. How does this team score 8 runs one game and 1 run the next, seems like it happens quite often. They're not a very good offensive team, and they're giving AB's to Cody Asche. I'm amazed they're scoring any runs at all.
  16. Guerrero, coming into the day, owned a .444 BABIP and a 50% strand rate. Seem like he's been a victim of bad luck and bad defense.

Seems like Yoan is adjusting to AAA pitching. Avg up to .340 now. Danish bounced back after a bad 1st and has 4Ks thru 4.
  18. If you want to see what regression looks like, it's getting totally shut down by Nate Karns.
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 3, 2017 -> 12:11 PM) They're both injured. Sandoval sucks. Holt is a bench player who just suffered another possibly concussion related setback. The Red Sox are trying to win a championship and their GM is Dave Dombrowski. They're going to improve everywhere they can and as far as the lineup goes, 3B is their obvious, big need. We can only hope Moose cools off, or that Frazier ups his BA. BOS needs power badly, but Frazier doesn't offer much besides that.
  20. TEX will probably trade Yu, which makes moving Q a real trick. I do think it was a mistake not to trade him, whether he has a good season or not, but here we are.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Giolito really sucks. So many excuses made for him being a disaster Not ready to give up on a 22 year old former top prospect just yet. He clearly isn't right but it's a long season.
  22. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 2, 2017 -> 07:32 PM) Q ERA watch - down from 5.22 at the start of the night to 4.59 now. Can get it to 3.99 with a complete game shutout. 4.50! He's in normal pitcher territory!
  23. Melky gets thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double so often i'm just gonna call that a Melky from now on.
  24. daggins replied to flavum's topic in FutureSox Board
Not a good start for Fulmer, though he was "effectively wild" and only gave up two hits. Every now and then Kanny will just explode and it reminds you there are some exciting hitters down there.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2017 -> 06:07 PM) Nice jinx Worked out really well for Kanny, anyways.
