  1. At this point, I think any teams that lose pitchers are likely to go with internal options rather than make a big splash - at least for the first couple months. Boston seems a very unlikely suitor for Q, I would think. They have Price under contract for a long time and their depth is pretty decent.
  2. Maybe this prods the Yankees to rush a bit given that this could make the ALE slightly more competitive.
  3. I was (and am) a big advocate for the rebuild but i'm all for signing Alvarez. If the money is right (like 2-3 mil) then he could be flipped if he's hot, and released if he's not. He isn't blocking any stud prospects and he has a track record of being decent. He also isn't going to be so good that the team will win 6 extra games or something. It doesn't seem like there's any market for him, but who knows.
  4. Bourjos is still covers ground, but there's no upside, so any time spent starting him is disappointing. Hopefully we don't have to start calling him Glass Charlie.
  5. Lets see... .248/.312/.340 pure 4th OF goodness.
  6. Worth also noting that the DR is really unsafe for driving: https://sports.vice.com/en_us/article/oscar...aseball-players
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) Edgar Martinez will be next year's Hoffman. He'll be real close. Voter group think is a real thing. People who never thought Hoffman deserved it, will vote for him because he's close, and no other reason. I'm not a Hoffman or Edgar guy, but it's going to happen. Yeah, i've seen talk that EMart will be the new Raines - a guy with a solid case who is championed by younger, more internet savvy voters. In some ways it's problematic that BBWAA voters are feeling pressure due to prevailing politics, but on the other hand, there are a lot of deserving players left out because, previously, there was no pressure to not just turn in a blank ballot every year - including one player that Sox fans are very familiar with.
  8. With all votes now being public, I think guys like Mussina and Edgar Martinez will see significant bumps as well.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) I could see Thome coming up short in his first year, like Vlad did. There's no reason not to vote for him, but voters still act like 1st Ballot means something, which is stupid. Either you think the guy belongs in, or you don't. I can see a case where it happens, but it seems pretty unlikely. Frank got in his first year and their career numbers are reasonably comparable, no ties to PEDs, and Thome is universally beloved. I think changes in the voter demographic favor his election as well.
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 11:19 PM) Wasn't aware the Sox were short on MI depth. He's another option. It wouldn't surprise me if he was released in ST but who knows. When you rebuild, you cast a wide net.
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:12 PM) Rank your trade partners: Yankees Pirates Rockies Rangers Astros Preferred -> Least Pref Yankees Bucs Rox Stros Rags Likely -> Least Likely Stros Bucs Rox Rags Yanks
  12. .260/.295/.430 He'll struggle, but hit for some power. His athleticism and defense will carry him this year and he should improve in 2018.
  13. Yeah I just looked at their top 30 on mlb/prospects. Bell is probably no go. Something like Meadows/Ke'Bryan Hayes/Elias Diaz/Yeudy Garcia or Stephen Brault might be enough.
  14. This is what I like to hear. I kind of felt like the Yankees interest was a bit overblown by media and fans, since they can easily add via FA, but PIT doesn't have that option, and they need pitching badly, unlike the Astros, who kind of need pitching but can add at the deadline. The trickle of rumors also may indicate that things are flowing again after the post meetings freeze. Glad to hear it, keep it coming, Meadows/Bell ++ baseline.
  15. The longer this goes on, the less convinced I am it will happen, at least this winter. Maybe someone gets hurt in ST, but the Astros don't need him and the Yankees are too early in the rebuild cycle to get him.
  16. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) If the Yankees see themselves as fringe contenders in 2017 but serious contenders 2018 and onward Quintana makes a ton of sense. Durable LH innings eater is one of the locomotives teams rely on to win a division. And in the AL East its not just about finding a Bumgarner for the playoffs. Avoiding the wild card playoff is a big deal. They definitely need some pitching, but I think they are more likely to re-evaluate after this season and add for 2018 once they know what they can expect from Frazier/Judge/Bird/Severino (AKA the near-term guys) going forward.
  17. This seems super unlikely. Even Marchand says as much in his blurb. I think its too early for the Yanks to be slinging prospects. Any Q news is good I guess, but i'm not getting my hopes up.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) DRob for Severino and Stevenson. Yes? No? Maybe so? Seems like too much, but in this market, who knows. I guess talks with the Rays about Colome have cooled.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 11:14 PM) I think you mean Holland as a reliever, if Robertson is gone? Derek, not Greg, although he wouldn't be the worst idea either. Duelin' Hollands.
  20. I love the idea of signing Mr Handsome, Colby Rasmus. He seems like a good bet to bounce back and have a decent year. He'll never strike out less than ~30% but he can field and has some power. Good candidate to flip. He might not want to play for Nadir Sox though. I think Q does end up going to Houston, although I could see the Cardinals being strong bidders. I think once Turner signs with the Dodgers, Dombrowski and Hahn hook up again to send Frazier to Boston. Robertson goes to the Nats I think. Not sure what his market looks like. CF Tilson RF Coats/Avi LF Rasmus DH Melky 1B Abreu 3B Lawrie SS Anderson 2B C. Sanchez C Hanigan or trade IF Saladino OF May or Engel C Narvaez Rodon Gonzalez Shields Covey Holland or trade Jones Jennings Putnam Petricka Brian Clark Ynoa Minaya/Kahnle That should be good for 60 wins or so, accounting for any deadline moves.
  21. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) Interesting that you mention Mozeliak. Who could they in on? Q? Robertson? Also interesting that there's no mention of Bridich or Huntington. Might be reading too much into it tho.
  22. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) That's almost totally in the hands of Luhnow, Coppolela, Mozeliak and Rizzo. There is still momentum from last week's discussions. The scouting and talks have been very thorough for many months and further deals are on the board to be had. Make no mistake, teams very clearly know Rick's asks, which contributed to last week's action and thus the recent windfall of elite prospects. Interesting that you mention Mozeliak. Who could they in on? Q? Robertson?
  23. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:22 PM) No. Wrong franchise. I'm not even sure the Cubs will pay for 2018 free agents. They'll likely pay their own guys (Bryant, Rizzo, etc), but smart money is against paying mega-contracts. If i'm Rick Hahn and I have a legit shot at signing Machado or Harper I am on that 100 times out of 100.
  24. QUOTE (Username @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) Wonder if: 1) Turner signs back with the Dodgers soon, since they were he only team I really heard seriously linked to him. 2) This affects the Rockies plans. They were supposedly talking Blackmon with the Cards, and I don't buy that Desmond is their 1B. They could put CarGo at first, or trade one of them to the Blue Jays for pitching. FYI - I guess Turner is in Curacao attending Kenley Jansen's wedding, so there may not be a deal for either for a lil bit.
  25. I guess the Marlin have 5/80+ on the table for Jansen. Holy poop.
