  1. Keith Law had better stay out of Chicago White Sox business.
  2. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) Yep. Players can not be awarded or offerred less than 80% of their current salary in arbitration. If they hadn't reached an agreement by the time that the arbitration deadline rolled around, they could opt not to offer arbitration. They would still be able to resign him in that case under the new rules. Den the kind of year he has will determine if he is offered arbitration. If he has a year like 09 I don't think he will command $10M+ and the Sox will not offer arbitration.
  3. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) I'd say we either rotate or we sign Thome. I prefer we sign Thome. Me too. It's sounds like Kenny and Jerry agree but are willing to go with Ozzie's crazy rotating DH plan and to hold him accountable for it. I will be so dissapointed if the Sox waste their great pitching by thinking they don't have to upgrade the offense. Unless you think letting your most productive hitter (Thome, .864 OPS) go is an upgrade. Let's face it Pierre/Pods swap is pretty much a wash and we really don't know if Teahen will be any upgrade at all.
  4. QUOTE (since56 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) Ozzie wants to manage. he doesn't want some one who is a DH only. He wants to mix and match in the field and in the batting order. If that's true the Sox are in big trouble. Filling the spot in the batting order that is specifically designed for power hitting with a turnstyle of replacement level garbage will be disatrous.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) I'd be disappointed. I would be very disappointed. That's nuts - Thome is probably the best option out there right now. He put up an .864 OPS with the Sox last year. You can't possible think Jones is going to do that. If Jones shows anything he can take over the DH spot against lefties.
  6. Ozzie seems to have a great repoire with fellow Venezuelans, except Maggs.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) http://twitter.com/ChuckGarfien BRING THOME BACK!!!!!!!!!
  8. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) Today's activity supports my dream scenario Flowers can either catch or DH daily... with CJ Retherford as an emergency catcher (and other utility guy as it seems he'll now be) So AJP and TF can coexist regularly If you have a catcher also DHing you need to carry 3 catchers on the roster. Retheford will not do.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) the offseason started like 12 hours ago, lets wait out this 3 months before we decide that we have holes and havent adequately covered them up For KW the offseason started at the end of August.
  10. Has everyone forgotten that Boras is Ramirez' agent?
  11. I don't think Beckham will win but it seems the players like him. He won the Sporting News ROY. I'm hoping Verlander is one of those "every other year" guys and follows up his good year with a mediocre year. I would doubt Peavy is better than Verlander - though it will play out next year as they pitch to the same hitters (for the most part) but I will say that what I saw of Peavy in September has me totally psyched for next year.
  12. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 07:34 PM) on mlb rumors i saw how rosenthal thinks elvis andrus should win r.o.y. i havent really seen much of him but have heard hes really good defensively. if u compare beckhams stats to his though, beckhams are was better. so do u's believe theres a chance he'll get it over beckham because of his defense? His recent slump hurt his chances. He needs to go on a run here if he wants to reclaim ROY.
  13. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) We paid them back for the fiasco road trip and our visit to Beantown. Too bad it may be too late May? The good news is that the way the Tigers are playing right now, we woldn;t have caught them even without the disastrous road trip.
  14. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) Maybe a big fight in the dugout like in Major League II. Maybe that's why we got rid of the good guys (Thome and Contreras) - we didn't want them to get mixed up in the meelee.
  15. Happy birthday to my PTC, Jim Thome!
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxgt @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 07:21 PM) i really have no confidence on this team these next 2 games with contreras and Garcia starting, and its gettin to the point where i get really scared when Buehrle pitches. he just gives up too many hits and hes always gettin scored upon.. then it doesn't help when paulie and dye strugglin putting up crappy numbers and Rios not showin anything since he got here. and Thome as much as i love the guy lives and dies with the home run...the one thing that a lot of ppl said when describing this white sox team. oh man idk how many ppl will agree with me but i am just sick n tired of seein this team play. i really hope all this comes from frustration on my part ...a lot of these guys are playin like they dont care since they might not be back next year. Not really - I look forward to it since it will likely be the be the determining factor. I'm tired of wondering what we are.
  17. Was there a corresponding roster move to make room for the Sweaty One?
  18. QUOTE (striker62704 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) After yesterdays loss, and yet another failed attempt at a sweep, I was furious. But then I began to think, are the White Sox a great team that underachieves? Or do I just expect too much out of them? Are they really a .500 team even though I expect 90 wins? I personally think they are underachievers. The team we have fielded the past few years has been stacked with talent and we haven't gone anywhere with it. Because of this, I feel that if we don't get anywhere this year, it's time to make some MORE significant moves. Just wanted to know what everyone elses thoughts were. If I had to pick one I'd say underachievers, with a caveat. Normallly a team is built in the off-season. They have ST to learn how to work together and then time to gel during the season. This team was built in-season. I really feel we have the best team in the division - and maybe beyond that. But they simply may not have enough time to pull it all together.
  19. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) Should be a fun matchup between two of the smartest pitchers in the league. I like Bannister quite a bit, not as a major league pitcher, but as a student of the game. Meh - last time the Sox knocked him around he made the excuse about BABIP for that game being extraordinarily high. That's not a stat you look at on a game by game basis. The Sox were hitting the ball hard, which is why they were dropping. He tried to make it look like he was just unlucky. I though that was rather cowaredly.
  20. QUOTE (chisoxpride2 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 11:16 PM) I'm going to the game tomorrow night and seeing how I was somehow lucky enough to be in attendance for BOTH Mark Buehrle's No hitter two years ago and his perfect game two weeks ago, I want to get the tickets signed by Mark.. and maybe wise... any tips for accomplishing this? Bring a child to get the autograph.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) "Newly acquired Jake Peavy threw a light bullpen session Sunday morning and reported there "was no pain in my ankle" "Manager Ozzie Guillen said there was no timetable for Peavy's debut with the White Sox but that he "had a feeling" would not take the full month that most people expect"http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2009/08/jake-peavy-throws-painfree-bullpen-session-for-white-sox.html The thing about Ozzie - he's honest. He wouldn't say something like that if he didn't believe it. Case in point: When asked by Ken Rosenthal about Beckham right after he was brought up and the club was playing really bad, Ozzie said, "he stinks just like the rest of us". This is encouraging.
  22. Good stuff. Where did you find his stats vs the AL?
