QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) Where did you see he was the best prospect in the draft class? That list didn't include pitchers, which is who went off the board 1 through 3. Basically the 4th pick (1st position player taken) is currently ranked the top position prospect from that draft (where he was also taken as the top position prospect). Production has been strong to date as well. Don't see anything criminal in those actions. Whoops didn't realize it was just position guys. But he does say that is 15 of the his top 20, maybe Rodon but doubt anyone else from that draft class is above him.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 10:19 AM) Non-Moncada, but Schwarber being so high on that list is insane. I heard a lot of people saying that was a huge reach at the #4 pick and now he's ranked the best prospect in the entire draft class? He's an advanced college bat that feasted on younger competition, SMH.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa

From the Keith Law chat today...sorry to dredge up this thread but Oakland's recent moves have put Semien out and then back into the starting SS gig. "Kyle (Missouri) Could you breakdown the Escobar for Clippard trade? Klaw (1:06 PM) Meh. The problem I see is that Oakland is convinced Marcus Semien can be an everyday shortstop, and I don't think he can. Anthony (Cal) Do you think Seimen could play 2B and Zobrist at SS? Klaw (1:11 PM) Not really. I don't think Semien's bat plays every day. Decent utility guy but that's probably it." Ouch. Count Keith Law as not a fan of Semien... -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 08:00 AM) Here is the BP Top 10 White Sox Prospects list. Great depth in the write-ups. Rodon at 2, Beck at 6 are surprises to me. Also, they seem to think Sanchez has a higher ceiling and long term value than Micah Johnson. Chris Beck at #6 is interesting as well. 2015 will be a big year for him

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) While his contract will always be a real bargain (provided he stays healthy), Sale's days of being "dirt cheap" are going to be behind him following this season. Still only 9.15 in 2016, 12 in 2017, and 12.5 in 2018. For a start of his caliber? Dirt cheap. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) There is a legitimate question as to whether spending 100-120 million on Samardzija is the best use of Sox assets. Just have to see how things develop this season (2b, 3b, c) and with the highly rated pitching prospects. I'd rather spend it on him than Shields. Honestly not too many #2 starter types are available and in your lap like Shark currently is. Get it done Hahn. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) So like 6 years $105 million? 5 years $90 million? Something like that or more? I know he wanted Homer Bailey money before. 6 years $105 million. I think he wanted Homer Bailey money last off-season before his strong year. It wouldn't surprise me if the Sox have to pony up 20 million annual to get it done. I'm thinking in the range of 5-100ish. -
Sox agree with George Kottaras on a minor league deal

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) Yes. He spent his time on the major league roster, and is the full property of the Chicago White Sox. I'll be interested to see what kind of numbers he puts up as a full time catcher in Charlotte. -

Anybody else having trouble supporting this team?
royoung replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The fact that the San Francisco clubhouse and organization would want him back after his suspension tells me a lot. His suspension really hurt them and if anyone has a right to feel betrayed it would be them. EDIT: I am not justifying what he did or taking a moral stand one or the other. Just pointing out that the Giants, who were directly hurt by his action and lies, saw it as a non-issue now so much that they pursued a reunion. -

Wait, this is an actual serious thread and not a troll job? Wow. Ok well then my answer is no, I have no problem supporting the most exciting White Sox team since 2005. -
White Sox acquire Dan Jennings for Andre Rienzo

QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 04:32 PM) Why does he need an alteration? His numbers look really good. What am I missing here? Lefties his him hard and his WHIP is very high for his ERA. -

Reserve splits eh...I guess that is fine since he can just take a whole inning rather than being a pure lOOGY. Great trade -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) I guess Dodgers traded Dee Gordon and Dan Haren for one of Marlins top prospects (top 50 pitching prospect in baseball). Presuming he still counts as prospect despite making 7 or 8 big league starts a year ago. Heaney is a stud and Haren won't even play for them. Not a good move by the Fish

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) I understand that value-wise, but I don't see why the Rays would want Quintana is they're trading Longoria. I would rather use minor leaguers, but if Quintana were the centerpiece I would think it would have to be a three-way somehow. Same reason they acquired Smyly for Price, less risk of busting, multiple years of control.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) You're not going to convince the Rays to trade Longoria if they don't already want to. If, if for some reason they are considering dealing him (forget adding Myers) for strategic reasons, would a package of Anderson, Danish, Montas and Hawkins get you in the door at least? It would be a starter, but would probably need some sweetening. It would also wipe out the Sox farm system... Maybe? I would think Q would have to be included for them to do it. We know that a Q-Bruce swap was discussed earlier in the off-season so you know Hahn is at least open to that.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) That's true. Sox just seem to have a thing with Castro. Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 15h15 hours ago Have heard from multiple people about how much "Rick Hahn loves Jason Castro". Trade candidate. #WhiteSox #Astros Yup

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) They obviously feel like they can get something for him. Agreed. I don't think they planned on him being on the White Sox on Opening Day when they tendered him. He will go sometime this winter.

Jim Callis @jimcallisMLB 30s30 seconds ago I like Semien, don't love the trade for @Athletics. @FlavourDigital: Is Semien that good? Or is 1 year of The Shark not valued that highly? I think generally consensus is the Sox "won" this trade. I think people will be harsh on this package because it doesn't have star potential, but I believe the guys going back to the A's will contribute at minimal cost. Which is exactly what Beane seems to be looking for in Oakland on his limited payroll. Though I am not going to lie I am thrilled the Sox were able to complete this deal without having to include Anderson, Montas, Hawkins, Danish, Adams, etc etc. You could argue that Ynoa has the highest ceiling of any of the prospect in the deal. -
