@Y2Jimmy0 Is it Howard or Abel you are referring to in your recent tweet? Or someone else entirely?
-
Yep. Though I'd still take the rumor with a grain of salt at this point.
-
If this is true it has to be the Angels right?
-
Some random dudes I'm interested in based off nothing but write-ups, you-tube looks, and maybe just having a cool name.
-
I was about to post about some of the guys I'm interested in. Dax Fulton is up there. Even with the Tommy John. Sounds like the spin rate on his curveball is crazy.
-
I'm torn between Abel, Detmers, and Howard.
-
Law's list noted that Winn was sent home early last summer from MLB's PDP league. His write-up is fun though.
-
Top 11 from BA's newest mock.
-
New BA mock. A not Bailey sighting! https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/mlb-mock-draft/
-
There are so many other guys I would want over Blaze Jordan. Enough one dimensional corner profiles.
-
Huh? Some baseball > no baseball.
-
Law on Jones.
-
Abel falling to St. Louis would be kind of crazy.
-
Interesting notes from that mock. - Howard is an option for the Angels at 10. - Some think that Cavalli is in a tier of his own for pitching after Detmers. - Crochet is falling because of both injury and makeup concerns. - Kelley isn't in this mock.
-
Zzz. More Bailey. Not even a suggestion of any alternative. Eric did mention on a recent podcast how hard the White Sox are to pin down right now though.
-
I sure would like to get some recent assessments of this dude. All I know is Longenhagen doesn't think much of him. Wish we had more takes.

Comps in draft talk are the worst.

Will share some bits and pieces I think interesting from Law's write-ups. - Says if Max Meyer was a few inches taller, he'd be in the 1-1 mix. Has the fallback of a 2-3 WAR reliever if he can't start. - PCA has a future 70 glove in CF. 60 grade runner with a plus arm. More swing and miss than you want as a prep, but with a possible 60 bat and 50 power he has a star ceiling. - Hassell's swing rivals Veen's as best in the draft. Many teams view him as the best hitter in the class. Should be at least a 55 defender in right. High average line drive hitter with possible 20 HR power down the road. - Detmers has three 50-55 grade pitches. Taking some risk with the average fastball which could slip pitching every 5th day instead of every 7th. The command and pitch mix gives him mid rotation upside. - Calls Cavalli the clear top guy in the second tier of college pitchers. Says he gives up more contact than he should based on his profile and teams can't figure out why. Has the weapons to be a number 2 starter. - Wilcox has number 1 or 2 starter upside but will need a fair amount of development to reach that. Current state projects as a number 4 with potential. - "Bailey is seen as a bat first catcher who's good enough to stay at the position but not more than that on defense." - Soderstrom ranked 25th. All bat, little chance to stay at catcher. Will have to change something mechanically to get to his power. Will likely start his pro career at 3B. - Kelley ranked 31st. Prototypical Texas prep pitcher. Needs to find a consistent breaking ball and to work on his conditioning. Profiles as a mid rotation guy. - Crochet is a wildcard and ranked 39th. 70 grade slider but substantial reliever risk. One of the best pure arms in the class and someone will probably take him in the 1st round.
-
Law's top 15.
-
Yea. I didn't expect to see PCA at 10. I also didn't expect to see Wilcox at 14. I think I've really come around on Cavalli as well. Wouldn't have a problem with him as the pick.

Just for those that might not click into the article:

Listening to Callis on the White Sox Talk podcast. - Mentions that right after pick 10 is where things get murky. - Notes that even though he mocked Bailey to the Sox himself weeks ago, he thinks that the interest/preference is over blown and that he doesn't think he's going to be the pick. - Says that there is a "persistent thought" that the Sox are in on one particular high school player, but who specifically that is, is unknown. Mentions Hassell, Hendrick, Howard, and Soderstrom. Also mentions Abel, Kelly, and Bitsko as possibilities. - From a college standpoint he says there is an outside chance Detmers gets to them, but if not, his gut says they are going to take one of the prep players listed above. - Callis thinks Detmers is the best player that could possibly fall to the White Sox at 11. Calls him the prototypical number 3 starter. - Suggests Ed Howard is a valid pick at 11. Has him ranked 15th. Says he doesn't have the loud carrying tool like Witt Jr or CJ Abrams. Has him being drafted in the 17-29 range. Thinks he might be pushed down the board due to the amount of solid college pitching available. - Says the position player he hears the most with the White Sox is Soderstrom. He thinks if they take a high school position player it will be him. Notes the history of high school catchers is bad and how often they switch off the position. Says Tyler can really really hit and is athletic. Profiles well at 3B. - Concludes Detmers or Soderstrom as the pick at this point.
