I think one of you is talking about JJ Cooper and the other Don Cooper.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) That would be if you underpay someone. The White Sox currently aren't in the position to look for "deals" with their first round and second round pick. They need to take the best player available. Those guys usually don't give discounts. The $800k would be used on that 75th pick. Screw that. Get someone who has some professional history. The way the draft is anymore, there is very little sliding due to signability. The $800k wouldn't make much of a difference. It doesn't necessitate "deals" with their first and second round picks. If a team needs/chooses to overspend on pick 11, 49, or 75, savings can be gained by drafting the college seniors later. I think you are significantly underselling the flexibility that comes with a larger draft pool. Especially when the draft is absolutely where a rebuilding team needs to knock it out of the park.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) Regarless of if it could be traded or not, why would the 75th pick in the draft interest anyone? Get a player that has been developed and can be projected far more accurately. And I am all for Reed. His stock has fallen, he isn't even expected to make their team, but last year he would have been a headliner. He might bust, but the payoff could be as huge as he is. I too would be more in favor of a developed player then the draft pick personally. But keep in mind the pick also has a draft allotment associated with it. $800K I believe was mentioned? Allows the White Sox more flexibility in how they approach the draft. Could grab some tough signs, players that drop, etc. Just sayin' it's not just the pick itself that needs to be valued.

Not enough Franklin Perez mentions in these trade proposals. Think he's my most wanted piece aside from Tucker.

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Scott merkin said astros high on tucker and wouldn't be in a deal. Let's not talk in absolutes. He said he doesn't think Tucker would be in a deal due to the Astros thinking highly of him.
-
Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 3m3 minutes ago @JamesFox917 @Dunt1 @barstoolWSD I had heard Houston is very high on Tucker so we'll see if that changes or not.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) Yeah, I don't get it. If Merk guesses no Tucker, I'd have to assume Bregman or Springer is in the deal. Maybe even Frazier going to Houston too. Springer doesn't fit at all.
-
An Astros return without Tucker would be a huge disappointment in my opinion. This is operating under the assumption that Bregman is untouchable.

QUOTE (pablo @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) I am a fan of WSD but that doesn't make much sense. Five top 10 prospects when Sale only got 3? Granted, Moncada was probably worth 2 top prospects by himself. Did he have sources or was he just throwing that out there? He's just throwing s*** out there like he usually does.
-
I don't know how a deal gets done without Tucker. That would be crazy. (Unless Bregman) But that's crazy talk.

Hrmm. whitesoxdave @barstoolWSD 9m9 minutes ago IF a deal gets done with Houston, I'm gonna predict the return to be Martes, Tucker, Stubbs, Fisher, Laureano 8 replies 9 retweets 16 likes Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 1m1 minute ago @barstoolWSD @JamesFox917 I would guess no Tucker 2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes

Speaking of the Astros, OF Ramon Laureano is an interesting prospect. He had stupid numbers last year. Sickels has him number 7 on his list, whereas Baseball America doesn't even have him in the top 10. Wonder how the White Sox feel about him.

Jon Morosi @jonmorosi 35s36 seconds ago José Quintana trade talks continue, sources say, with #Astros among the most serious suitors. @MLB @MLBNetwork

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) Don't want to clutter the new thread, but if Gammons is right that the Astros are coming back with an offer for Q similar to the offer that was turned down for Archer (Martes/Tucker/Paulino + 2 other prospects), I suspect things will start to move quickly. Pirates can obviously beat that offer, but it will definitely put the pressure on the Pirates to make their best and final offer. Martes/Tucker/Paulino/Perez would make me very happy. But I really like Tucker and Perez.
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) I think the deal would be closer to Albies, one of Maitain/Acuna/Demeritte, Fried/Wentz, lottery ticket. I would love Allard in a Braves deal.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 08:34 PM) Astros & Pirates still make the most sense for Quintana. If these were the offers, which deal would you prefer? Astros: Martes, Tucker, Reed, Sierra Pirates: Glasnow, Bell, Hayes, Garcia Astros slightly. Would like it much more if Franklin Perez found his way into the package.

QUOTE (MDWhiteSoxFan @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 11:13 PM) I'll do my best NYY is apparently very interested in Q and "D Robby", according to sources. According to GM they are not interested at all. Talks are very serious, but they haven't talked at all. The Cubs are going to be competitive for 5 years at least, the Cardinals are just as good or close. Pirates and Yankees 3 team trade. Mariners line up pretty fair. Probably some personal attacks, and warnings for them. We aren't doing an actual rebuild we just wanted to rid the clubhouse of Drake fans. Quintana is very underrated by guys people that don't like Sabermetrics and people that aren't fans of the team. Bregman isn't coming her. Q could or could not be more valuable at the deadline or next off season. I think that covers it Well done. -

Can we stop suggesting Bregman as a potential return? Not happening. -

Rutherford and Keller are the most exciting pieces of the names mentioned IMO. I might like Keller as much as Glasnow. -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 06:53 PM) Will Craig is an interesting prospect. Crazy batting eye with good hit and power tools although the power has yet to develop. Anyone from Future Sox know anything about Craig? I like him plenty as a secondary piece. Likely limited to first or DH though. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:29 AM) Did he say that they have actually had contact or just his own speculation because they have the pieces it would take? Happ and Eloy would definitely be what the White Sox are looking for in a deal. I'd welcome the Cubs to the trade mix. -

Surprised no mention of Will Craig as part of a package. Though I suppose he is tough to assign value to at this point, being a 2016 1st rounder with little pro experience. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) If Keller has even fringe average power potential instead of no power he would easily be a top #15 prospect right now. His hit tool is legit plus. Newman you mean?
