QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) Justin Jirschele struck out twice on June 7th. Big deal, right? Only 2 K's counts as a good night for most of our prospects--Barnum, Mitchell, Davidson, Thompson, et al. Well, throw out that game and he has exactly zero strikeouts the rest of the season, covering 70+ PAs. Jirschele doesn't have squat for power and isn't really a prospect but still...pretty impressive. I hope they make Hawkins sit next to him on the team bus. They said the same thing about Wade Boggs when he was in the minors. Third baseman, no power, not a prospect.
  2. Appel and Drew were #1's that Boras controlled who did not sign. Were there any others?
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) Really, they're playing a game of chicken, and Boras will eventually lose. If Rodon returns to school, he's risking $6 million to try and potentially earn an additional $2.5 mill, and he could lose as much as all of that $6 mill (though it likely be closer to losing $2-4 mill). Had this been prior to the last CBA, there's no way the Sox would have drafted Rodon because Boras would have been asking for $12 mill and he could have let it known well before the draft. The Sox likely would have taken Nola or Hoffman. With the slot, the Sox are likely offering the full slot value to Rodon while Boras is asking for $6.5-7 mill (or something along those lines) and both sides say "we're not moving." Boras realizes how important it is for his client to get the most and safest possible contract, but he also realizes that the White Sox badly want his client under contract. The Sox could likely wait until the very last second and Rodon would eventually sign, but they may cave a little to get him under contract sooner("if he signs by July 4th, we'll give him $6.25 mill, but that offer will be withdrawn beyond that date and will revert to a slot valued deal beyond that"). Either way, there's still a 99.999% chance of getting it done. You don't know what you are talking about, just guessing. You said the same thing a week ago, IIRC. Odds get lower every day. Frankly, I wish Sox would take a portion of that money and throw it at de Oca. Sox have plenty of leverage, since they get #4 next year if Rodon does not sign. Boras won't hesitate to send him back to NC State next fall -- he has done it before
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) Rodon will probably be Top 20. Not if he soesn't sign. Even if he does sign, he prob won't get enough starts to warrant a top 20...
  5. Can I get a simple explanation of Super 2, please?
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 03:11 PM) De Aza was never that bad of a hitter, just unlucky at times. He has played well lately. He has. Still, poor baserunning by him cost a run in the 5th, I believe. Looks like it won't be needed. He is hitting better, however, as you said.
  7. What do Moderaters do?
  8. Does anyone have a more level swing than Gillaspie?
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 06:59 AM) So what does the consensus think on Rodon: 1. Boras is just delaying because he's Boras. 2. Boras is holding out for the entire bonus pool plus the overage. 3. The Sox are trying to keep around $500,000-$600,000 for Montes de Oca. I believe that Rodon will sign. Even though there isn't much leverage, I could see it going awhile just because Boras is Boras though. If the holdup is Reinsdorf not paying an overage that is technically allowed though, he should just sell the team. I have nothing to prove that that would be the reason but not going over because they've never done it before is ass backwards logic. Especially when you dumped salary last year and just ate Jeff Keppinger's contract. I can sympathize with Reinsdorf a bit, if that is the case above. The slot amount is there for a reason, and it was negotiated as part of the CBA. The two higher picks went under their slots. No need for Sox to go way over, just because it's Boras on the other end. It's not like we lose the pick; we get similar pick next year if he doesn't sign.
  10. Why not trade for him? Even with his sub-par performance this year, he is still better than at least one of our starting outfielders.
  11. Whatever happened to Rex Hudler?
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 08:27 AM) Sox are now at 30 picks signed, 1 definitely won't, 9 open questions. Draft Tracker on FutureSox is up to date, including affiliate assignments for a bunch of the signees. Shouldn't Rodon's name be in red, along with Davidson at # 39?
  13. Marlins signed Kolek; don't know size of bonus.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 15, 2014 -> 10:58 PM) Oops. Sox are in last place in the division. This is not good. The team got one over .500 but never could get red-hot and actually be the surprise team of baseball. Let's hope this is not the plummet toward a top 3 draft pick again. I'm afraid with our iffy starting pitching past the third starter and some lousy everyday players to go with a few stars, we're in deep s*** as far as the standings. It's be nice to see Sale, Lexi and Abreu all make the all-star game at least. And Gillaspie make the ballot for that extra guy on the all star roster if he stays over .320. It would be a Top Ten pick right now.
  15. Flowers neeeds to sit for 3-5 straight games.
  16. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 04:44 PM) De Aza was not Hahn, it was KW that brought him in. De Aza was pretty close to awful most of last year, and Hahn gave him another contract this year and has kept him on the team even though he has no business in MLB. Not the biggest deal, I agree, but he is in the category of bad Hahn moves. Not as ridiculous as Paulino or Cleto or Boggs or as costly as Davidson/Reed, but Mr. Hahn is not yet qualified for Sainthood.
  17. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) Here is a URL with a newspaper article with the partial roster. http://www.greatfallstribune.com/story/spo...eased/10513435/ No Sammy Ayala at GF.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) No risk, high reward. Why not? Are you saying you LOVE the signing?
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) I've always liked Taylor. Hopefully he earns a shot with the Sox. Sanchez is a small price to pay. I still am absolutely love everything Rick Hahn has done. Your poor grammar aside, aren't you exaggerating just a bit? You LOVE Paulina? Not like, not understand, but you LOVE the Paulina signing? You LOVE Mitch Boggs? Not like, not understand, but you LOVE the Boggs signing? You LOVE the Davidson trade? You LOVE the Sierra signing? You LOVE de Aza?
  20. and if Rodon blows us off or asks for an insane number like $7 Millionish and Sox refuse, then what can Sox offer de Oca without penalty? I thought $100,000 plus whatever they save by not signing Rodon. And how good a prospect is he anyway, understanding that he had TJS?
  21. He can room with Mitch Boggs.
  22. Polanco, now 22, also struggled a bit in Pittsburgh chain a couple of years ago. Now a can't miss guy.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) OK I thought committed meant like it's a sure thing he's going back to school and the Sox have no chance of signing him. I mean i know our 2nd round pick was committed to some school too but wasn't sure how that word was being used when it comes to how that 1st post is viewed. So if someone decides to go back to school and not sign with the Sox what will it say in the 1st post ? Committed means he has signed with a particular college and cannot blow them off and go to a different college. Has nothing to do with turning pro.
  24. Actually, most of the #1 picks have not yet signed.
  25. Give it another week, then it won't be so laughable. Boras said to be waiting for #2 pick Kolek to sign with Marlins. I'm just glad that Boras doesn't represent both. Kolek's agent is probably waiting for Rodon to sign. Rodon is sitting around eating potato chips all day for all we know.
