  1. I wish I was giddy about this. The only positive it is someone new. He's not a proven MLB player. If he fails I understand why Reinsdorf is reluctant to spend money. The organization is not good at scouting in the big leagues. If he is a success after one year I assume they will trade him. That's the typical pattern of budget teams. Small market fans are so conditioned to this. Those fans can never have nice things. I think that really hurts baseball.
  2. Just think the Sox offered him more money.
  3. I would say that was the biggest change in 2025. A 100 loss Venable team was worth watching compared to a 100 loss Grifol team.
  4. LOL! A contradiction on your part. Ever heard of HISTORY. Nice try,,,,,,,,,,,yawn! I will say it until I'm proven 100% wrong. It's what all budget teams do.
  5. these deals are always orchestrated to eventually make Birmingham better. I wouldn't expect miracles the 1st season. Learning pitchers is not overnight and will take at least a season.
  6. Maybe owners are starting to think pitchers are overpriced. You can get quite wealthy just being mediocre or rarely missing a start. When a budget team drafts and develops a good one they trade them to the money teams. They hope they can repeat the process over and over.
  7. Wait, doesn't he play for the Dodgers?
  8. The Marlins GM came from the Rays. In 2 years they were close to .500 in a tough division while Getz is celebrating 2 100 loss seasons. I like to nickname the Marlins as Reinsdorf South. Getz could play the blame game but last I heard he was a minor league director before being "promoted".
  9. They were also brittle players. Health seems to be the new skill especially pitchers.
  10. Not all of them are guaranteed to do well in MLB either. It's easy to remember the successful but there are plenty of failures.
  11. So I'm assuming they want someone athletic enough to play CF.
  12. Checking the boxes - that's it?
  13. Wont happen since he's not a slap hitter. Once an outside puts on the Sox uniform suck seems to over take them. Has so much BS in the offseason ever been this bad before the 24 hour sports networks? Who remembers Fukadome? Cubs curse Sox blessing
  14. that's the clicker..........no one really knows so it's sources say Would a budget GM really do that on a guy you hope to get 100 games out of him?
  15. I'm that way. Only Dodger fans get to have nice things. I'm not sure if there is a good solution but how many teams draft a pitcher who becomes successful knowing that they will have to do it again because they can't afford it.
  16. how long will it be before we lose our excitement about prospects?
  17. that is also part of scouting and they are bad at that
  18. Why would the Sox ever break that tradition? Soon fans will be creaming for a bad pitcher to play 1B. They need to change baseball for Sox fans and put down 8 bases down RF line so they can all play. I'm not a fan of putting people who are weak at catching a baseball there.
  19. even if those are mediocre they often become trade bait who works every 5th day Not many position players get the TJ virus that keeps them out for a long time. Somewhere there is logic and there's baseball logic and they contradict.
  20. Those are the guys Getz likes
  21. That makes you highly qualified to be the Sox GM
  22. better scouting and development could avoid much of that it's the blueprint of s%*# organizations
  23. There is parity but it's bad parity. I don't know how a cap would change this but I would detest the Tigers more than the Dodgers for doing this. Fans can't have things unless you are on both coasts. I for one will never believe in a statement that attendance is up in MLB. I've heard more than once, never trade with the Dodgers. This is not good for the game.
  24. Only because they knew he wouldn't sign with them otherwise this could be filed under fake news
  25. turning strengths back into weaknesses usually the cause is some injury I have no idea what is a good return these days
